    I have been intrigued by tower farming for some time now, primarily as a means of cultivating my own produce on my terrace. While the terrace is sizeable, it does not qualify as a proper garden, making it challenging to grow fruits and vegetables. However, with tower farming, I am confident that I can effectively cultivate the crops I need in a relatively small area. I stumbled upon your channel today and was immediately impressed, prompting me to subscribe. I hope to have ample time in the coming days and weeks to browse through those of your videos that pique my interest. Thank you for sharing your expertise and the considerable effort you have invested in creating these videos. 🙏🏼😎

My Tower Garden is outdoors in Arizona….this is brutal on most plants except cucumbers and squash…It seems that the protection of a greenhouse is best for summers here…. On the other hand, our winters are mild enough for bumper crops of lettuce grown in my backyard Tower.

      Aeroponically grown plants have 100% availability of oxygen at the root level, which improves their ability to absorb nutrients. As a result, whether it's nutrient density, antioxidant levels, or flavonoid levels, soil farming crops rank among the best ever tested. Increased nutrient density, flavonoids, and antioxidant levels translate to better taste and vegetables with the right texture and water content!

      I know exactly what i`m talking about :) I`m afraid you have been mislead by the creative advertising that Tower Garden and others use to convince folks their product is aeroponic when its actually hydroponic. A t best its a vertical NFT, at worst its a drip system either way its hydroponic. A genuine aeroponic system can be run to waste, you cant run a tower garden to waste. The tower garden has to pump literally hundreds of gallons a day in order to supply the plants with just the gallon or two they actually use. A genuine aeroponic system would be able to deliver no more than the one to two gallons the plants need. If the tower garden is aeroponic why does it need to use 11x more power than an aeroponic system? A genuine aeroponic system doesnt need to recirculate the nutrients because it is able to deliver just what the plants need or use. This is a huge benefit, the nutrient elemental content is always optimal. There is no risk of debris , pathogens or contamination of the nutrient because nothing ever comes back from the root chamber. You cant do this with a tower garden becuase, being hydroponic, its forced to deliver 100`s of gallons a day,. not just one or two. If you compare the "aeroponic"roots grown in a tower garden to hydroponic roots they will look exactly the same. If you compare them to genuine aeroponic roots, even a blind man would know they are not aeroponic because he would be able to feel the difference. TG roots are long but sparse and absolutely soaking wet. Genuine aeroponic roots are barely damp, pure white and almost feathery in appearance, basically nothing remotely close to hydroponic roots th-cam.com/video/l1Rmm9JvPfY/w-d-xo.html
      I plan to run a side by side test with a genuine aeroponic tower and an identical tower using the same irrigation method as the tower garden. I will monitor and record the water, nutrient and power use of both towers and compare root and shoot growth. The tower garden only claims to be better than traditional soil growing, a genuine aeroponic system will outperform both soil and hydroponics. The tower garden doesnt claim to do better than hydroponics because it is hydroponic. The blog on the tower garden website conveniently forgets to mention that NASA used mist . It simply says:
      {quote} Advancements like aeroponic technology, first introduced by NASA, relies simply on water and key nutrients, rather than soil. {quote}
      Source: www.towergarden.com/blog.read.html/en/2020/5/beginners-guide-to-aeroponic-gardening.html
      Its all half truths and creative advertising, most folks understand that hydroponics also relies on water and key nutrients rather than soil.

      Great math? The pump runs for 4.8 hours a day and the plants only use 1-2 gallons a day. Consider how much power is being wasted pumping water to the tower unnecessarily. If this tower was genuinely aeroponic, the pump would run for no more than 24 minutes a day. This is an over priced hydroponic tower, not an aeroponic tower.

      Rain will not significantly affect anything as its very hard for a raindrop to get in the system. For example put a cup of water outside, and consider how long it takes to fill up compared to the surroundings. If water does get in though, all it does is dilute the solution, so remove some liquid so the system doesn't flood and spill out, and add some nutrients. You can reintroduce the liquid you took out after adding nutrients to that as well, but generally people just throw out old solution just in case of disease spread or algae formation.

      @@atomizer2665 The leaves direct water away from the stem in the same way a tree canopy does. Rain isn't going to flood tower systems.
      You should exchange old nutrient solution. It's not about making money, its about the fact there is bacteria in the air that will rob the roots of access to nutrients if it colonizes the water and accumulates. You can test this out for yourself by growing multiple generations of plants with water exchange or with only top off. The top off will start to get weaker with each generation. Old nutrient solution can be added to regular in dirt plants like trees if you really want to not waste anything as it is more competitively inhibited. Unlike the dirt, hydroponic systems do not have stuff like worms eating up and keeping the microbe population in check.
      Alternatively you could boil it to sterilize it, but I think you will spend more in fuel if you buy from concentrate.

The plants are irrigated intermittently 3 minutes on and 12 minutes off continuously. The towers are automatically filled up on an as needed basis via a gravity tank. • @Agrotonomy
      @Agrotonomy  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To keep birds away, we use a scarecrow that resembles a big bird. We also hang CDs on strings to reflect light and create flashing movements that scare away birds and help protect crops.
      Considering that the plants are growing vertically upwards off the ground, this drastically reduces the amount of pests that can access the plants. However, if we do have an insect issue, we use organic pest control such as neem oil, pyrethrin, thuricide, and agricultural soap (potassium salts).

When I see a new company making vertical hydroponics, I get excited, because it could solve a slew of food issues in such a small footprint, but then you look at the price and well, the motive is money as usual. Look at the bucket towers with 4" PVC with slits cut and heated to form an opening. Love this video and thanks so much for sharing. One minor correction. Energy consumption is in watt hours or kilo watt hours not watts. At 0:48, your pump is consuming 45 watts of power. Run for the whole hour, it would consume 45 watt hours ( 45Wh) worth of electricity. Since it only runs for 12 minutes out of an hour, it consumes 45W * 12/60 h = 9Wh. Running for 24 hrs, it's 216Wh per day, not 216 watts per day. And yes, 216Wh per day x 30 days is 6,480Wh or 6.48kWh x $0.16 per kWh = $1.04 per month in the US. Awesome energy efficiency. Is the pump on for 12 minutes straight every hour, or 6 minutes every 30 minutes, or something else?

    • @atomizer2665
      @atomizer2665 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you consider the plants in the tower are only using 1-2 gallons a day and the 45w pump runs for a full 4.8 hours a day the energy efficiency is woeful.

As a result, whether talking about nutrient density, antioxidant levels, or flavonoid levels where crops rank as high as the best ever tested with soil farming. Increase in nutrient density, flavonoids, and antioxidant levels also translates in superior taste and vegetables with the appropriate texture and water content.
