Alas, I Wish I was in Wheaton, Illinois to hear you on March 11, 2024. But returned March 20 from a snowbird state. Excited to listen to you today on You Tube
Saw her in Portland. What an amazing musician and beautiful human being! Best concert ever! Her band is each in their own right so very talented! Thank you, Rhiannon! Love you!
More and more I hear overtones of Billie Holiday in your voice. The control you have over your technique while always keeping your voice loaded with emotion. Thank you for all this hard work and ingenuity in using your musicianship this way.
Came here in a very strange way. I reread an old email to a friend I have lost touch with. We talked about Yo Yo Ma and William Buckley. That brought me to Margaret Hoover and her Yo Yo Ma interview. That brought me to Yo Yo Ma, whose music I have always loved, and that brought me to their collaboration, "Build a House". I am so glad I discovered Rhiannon Giddens! Such beautiful music!
Rhiannon Giddens had a concert some months back at the Beacon, NYC - love her music, checked out ticket prices, cheapest $300-400! Do I need an eye exam - can this be for real?
We have ourselves and the record industry to blame. Artists get such a small percentage of the income from sales of their music, most of it goes to the publishing houses and streaming services. Live performances are their only option of generating a decent income.
while I don't dislike this song, I prefer the more traditional or roots songs done by Rhiannon. She doesn't seem to be the sort of person who would sell out to commercial music producers.
@@thebaryonacousticoscillati5679 You should take a look at some of Rhiannon's early videos and compare musical styles, then ask yourself which style of music is more likely to generate an income? With young to middle-aged adults being a big part of the consumers of music today, more modern music is likely to sell more. I don't mind Rhiannon catering to that audience as long as she doesn't give up her older music.
How can you know what she could become, anyway? And why should we, as artists, be shaped by what sells best? Do you even know what you're talking about here? Rhiannon is an important person as an artist with something of hers to say, and that translates into anything she does, regardless of whether it is "traditional" or not. THANK GOD for her original pieces and only time will tell if they become "famous" and what else it will cause. Like Billie Holiday doing Strange Fruit. The sign of a prosperous society is that it supports artists so that they can create something that has artistic value and addresses the present. And that is most certainly what Rhiannon does here. Root songs are good and I love them all the way but what Rhiannon does is much more in connecting it to the present and translating it into something authentic and original.
Very excited for this whole album!
You are amazing Rhiannon!
I really just heard Rhiannon this morning on the CBS Saturday morning show & I absolutely love her

Ticket prices in general have become ridiculous

Ya know I am a long time big fan. I like over all vibe of this tune. The voice is almost to pristine for it. Feels a bit disconnected.

No such thing as "selling out". Completely naive, ridiculous concept.. This is a great song.
