I've been in and out of model railroading for years at almost eighty years old. I would think an N scale cleaning car would have to have a whole lot of weight added to it to work. Bottom line anybody that can make N scale run consistently has my respect. Good stuff thanks for posting Happy New Year
I had a similar problem, it seems the locomotive was pulling the car with the wheels barely touching the rails....like to was dragging the car only supported by the pad. I'm going to try it without the springs and see how it goes.
Thanks for the review! I bought the B&O version about a month ago. I was quite impressed with its cleaning ability, but wondered why it was leaning to one side. You definitely answered that for me. Thanks
Mike looks like you are right, the pads we add to HO don't need springs, so I can't see why they put them in a N scale car, looks to me you are so right too much ....thanks for sharing...👍👍👍👍👍😃
I wanted one of those in the worst way about 20 years ago, but couldn't find anything. So I took a Santa Fe Roundhouse 57' mechanical reefer, to which I added two pieces of pink eraser to the bottoms of the fuel tank. And I added extra weight. Used to push that around the layout with a couple of GP35's.
Interesting... I clean my track with crc electrical contact cleaner. Wonder if spraying the pad with a little crc would make any difference... I'm assuming at some point you'd want to change or clean the pad. Great review, Mike !
Hi Mike. I don't think you mentioned two things; (1) Does Bachmann recommend adding weight(s) to the car/ If so, how much did they recommend? (2) Does Bachmann recommend the use of a cleaning fluid for the pad?
Very interesting. I have one very similar but its an 40 foot refeer made by Model power. Is it possible to switch the shell for one from your Atlas 50 foot boxcars so you can have a paintscheme thats not available from Bachmann ? Looking at the construction of the underside of the car, the tabs holding the shell looks very much alike the one Atlas uses. I would like to do that. Thanks for another great video ,
@@N-Scale My bad I was on your page and it said you haven't posted in over a year must have been my TH-cam messing up! Thanks I'll have to get the cleaning car! My layout is smaller but would be nice not to have to clean it my self :)
@@N-Scale, I looking for a scrubber type like these that I can put in front and behind a CMX tank car loaded with IsoPropyl. Hopefully best of both worlds.
I no longer have one but it was made from wet , wadded news paper with plaster cloth over it and a thin coat of plaster , painted black and AZ rock and mineral coal on top of that. Mike
Mike you are way too sensitive lately!! This is a good review but lately whenever some followers do not shower the video with glowing accolades or mention remarks contrary to your post and meant to add some info you take offense by “inviting them not to watch” etc. my goodness Mike this is the internet no need to be so thin skinned.we subscribed to your channel because we enjoy what you put out and gather a lot of knowledge from your efforts. I for one have enjoyed many benefits and garnered a lot of knowledge from your channel and I am sure that applies to a lot of your subscribers. What my question has been is "if you do not like the content and post a thumbs down, Why did you and do you watch the video? " NOT what people are commenting on. I am merely saying " If it really hurts to hit you thumb with a hammer, Why would you purposely do it??" That is not an expression of thin skin but more a question of some peoples process to reason. I do not need negative people to watch my videos as it is not my living, it is simply sharing. PS, you have no idea what my life is or has been so please do not pretend to know me that well and I promise not to question your integrity or well being. That is not why I am here.
Win Win that sharp can I get one Unkeee Mike can you set me back one Please! I like the one you was showing the Western Pacific with the Feather River Route logo..
NOOOOOO! STOP trying fix something that is not broken, Mike! The car is designed to "float" on its bolsters so the pad stays FLAT on the rails. Get over your fussy feelings of wanting to make it 'act normal'. You had no real NEED to modify the darn thing. You MIGHT see an improvement [to your way of thinking] by making a very small adjustment to the spring tension by lightening the force, but I have been running my cleaning car for several months without ANY issues and NO adjustments regarding how it came out of the box. Hope this is your best year ever buddy and your followers DOUBLE in size! 🌞🤗🌞
@@N-Scale I agree with you Mike, I have all four of these cars (every road name) and they just don't run right. My locomotives had a hard time just pulling one.
For being what looked like a long winded video at 17 minutes, It ran past rather quick. It felt like watching a 5 minute video. Got to the end it was like is that it? I should have another 10 minutes Good job.
$40+ bucks average for that car. Better to do simple modification of a lifelike or inexpensive car that maybe got at a swap meet that would do the same. The key is finding out what material the pad is made of.

I pulled the springs out of mine after way to many derailments. Works like a charm now. Thanks for the video Mike.
Thanks Mark, I think it works well after the mod.

Thank You Dave.

Thanks for the review Mike. This will certainly help when looking at purchasing one.
Thank You Sean. Mike
like my drag car but it hangs on some switches
What brand of drag car?
Thanks Mike. Good timing as the new RR is big enough that some cleaning automation is needed. This might work for me.
It seems to do a good job at keeping the track buffed.

Interesting review, Mike. Thanks. Looks like you came up with a good solution.
It works but not my favorite track cleaner.

Hi Mike. I don't think you mentioned two things; (1) Does Bachmann recommend adding weight(s) to the car/ If so, how much did they recommend? (2) Does Bachmann recommend the use of a cleaning fluid for the pad?

Slide out pad is a good feature
Really nice review Mike. I think you are 100% right on the fix as well. I think they just took a good idea for HO and it doesn’t scale down to N.
That may be true.
Mike
Thanks for the review Mike. Looks like it has lots of potential!
It may have !!
Nice review do you kow of Bachmann make one in HO scale?
I do not , we are strictly N scale
Were have you been? Also would you recommend this now? Or would you recommend cleaning pads and solution?
I prefer a CMX cleaning car, and where have you been????

Hey Mike... Nice video, I know you're busy with the new Layout. Just wondering about the Bachman cleaning car, still doing its thing, a good cleaner??
It is an OK car but Not a CMX and Not an old ROCO scrubber

@@OwenKane I would push a weighted Bachmann ad pull the CMX

i also thank you for the review i might have to add one to my freight yard

All you gotta do is Put a Vacuum Car Behind the Cleaning car.
