if u tap in and out of the same mtr station within 20 minutes you get charged around hkd 3, if over 20 mins then they charge even more. its to discourage people from loitering inside the station. years ago delivery workers would enter and exit the same stations multiple times a day because it was faster than walking at street level since it was free, but i think the mtr wanted to discourage that too so they added the charge.
