    Can't say if it's good or bad. I would have thought they would peel the old loose and re-glue it. OR go from the inside and remove parts to get to the exterior wall then repair it. Maybe try using a buffer and polishing compound on a small spot on the shell and see if you could bring the color back to the bright white? I've done that on fiberglass boats to get the color back.

      Thanks for watching and commenting, I might give the buffer idea a try if it turns out as bad as it might.

    I've got some pretty bad delam on the front left of my 5th wheel and will need to do something about it soon. I doubt insurance will cover it (not sure how you got them to cover yours). The entire wall goes from front to rear of this 29-foot 5th wheel but the delam is only forward of the 12-foot slide, so I will probably have to cut it to do it. I will DIY it, because I'm not going to pay out of pocket what dealers want to charge. I will need to remove a bedroom and bathroom window, and this siding is fiberglass corrugated, so that's going to be very interesting to figure out how to clamp down. Wish me luck.

    How about installing a doggy window underneath the mirror. You can cut out a hole for the window where the delam is. The cost of that window should be under a few hundred dollars. The older Alegro Bay and Fleetwood American Dream class A's had those type of windows underneath the passenger mirror. I'm not sure if there called a dog window. Just an idea, good luck.

      Excellent idea, thanks!! (This is one of those "Why didn't I think of that" moments, ha!)

      Indeed, it could be. Also, after cutting the opening and before installing the window you could address the rest of the delamination issue by applying/injecting epoxy resin and being able to clamp the affected area while it bonds.
      Also, have you removed the mirror mount to inspect the opening? It appears as if the delamination begins (or ends) under the mirror mount.

    First question, how in the world did you get insurance to even consider covering this? Second, here is a little secret that the RV dealerships don't want you to know. The same epoxy you would buy in those kits, is the same epoxy they are going to use to bond the new material. It's just a low viscosity epoxy resin with slow hardener. Don't be fooled, they are trying to get as much $ from you and your insurance! (And this is coming from a local repair shop that charges half of what the big guys charge!)

      Hi, thanks for watching and commenting! We had some big storms with hail. I think it was episode 6 where I had to fix 2 hail strikes on the roof, I'm claiming that the crack in the sidewall above the mirror was caused by the same thing at the same time. The top of the arm that attaches to the coach, at the top there is a power cord that is exposed to weather where it enters the coach and was evidently sealed with silicone, I'm claiming the hail damaged the seal thus allowing water in. So far they have not covered anything yet. I'll be 51 on the 14th, this is the first claim of any type Maria and I have ever made ... even in this we are learning as we go.

    The delamination is not that bad. Chances are the repair job will be even more noticeable when they are done repairing it. A botched job will permanently lower the value of the motorhome even more. Forget about having them repair it.

    I say let them do it and then spend the $160 you saved on not buying the kit getting it to look the way you want it to.. I think as long as the decals are a match it should break it up enough as not to make it too noticeably different.. Good luck!

    had a lot of delamination on my old four winds .... and it was a pain but i did strip back and rebuild. its not easy on sidewalls to inject the bonding glue ! and near impossible to clamp it .. and as you say it creeps and gets bigger . find out where it leaks from ? cheers good video .. smiles from uk

      Hi Colin, hope you're getting on okay. I know you and Tinker have been having fun at rally, I rode along. I think I've found and sealed up both leaks. We've had lots of rain since, it's remaining dry, so far so good. Cheers!

    2nd ID, sure you can fix that delamination with some soju! I had and still have the same problem, first fixed by the dealer under warranty; lasted a year. Recently diy attempt with epoxy, I don't know how long it will hold.

      I spoke with a few people at the Winnebago Grand National Rally about it. I looked for those who had RV's with obvious delamination somewhere on the RV. Oddly enough, the most common answer I got about it was that they had no intention of fixing it for the exact reasons you stated. Most said that they found and stopped the leak and that's it. I saw a Vectra there that I wish I had taken a photo of. The delam bubble on the side on the RV looked to be the size of a sheet of plywood. We were kinda surprised by the number of RV's we saw with some delamination on them, but being Winnebago many were older RV's. Thanks for watching!

    What caused it to delam? How are you claiming this on your insurance? Thanks in advance

    • @NomadicNative
      @NomadicNative  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, For the insurance there has to be a coverable "event". Our event that caused the water to enter the wall was a hail strike. We have pretty vicious hail & ice storms. I don't know the size of the hail that did the damage but it cracked the roof in 2 spots, I fixed those, but I failed to see the sidewall crack... anyway, the adjuster came out & I showed him everything. They agreed to cover it, the repair was going to be done when we returned from the WIT rally, but we traded it in "as is" & returned in the new Forza 36G. Thanks for watching!

    • @NomadicNative
      @NomadicNative  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Richard Grant about $180,000. We traded it in without making the repair. The insurance estimate was around $10,000. Thanks for watching!

      @@NomadicNative did you get the $10,000? my rv had a soft spot in the floor and the estimate was $9000... insurance payed me the $9000 and i had local handyman fix it for $1100 and it was better than new. people think insurance only for accidents while driving but they can be used to fix your other problems with your rv also

      Chad May nope, didn’t commit insurance fraud .. this time, ha! Traded it in without making the repair.

      I know Bob, it's one of those things that make ya just wanna cuss. Work and work on the darned thing getting it all set up and ready to go and then this. We're doing our best to take it in stride, and we're really thankful that our insurance is going to cover it, but it does toss a monkey wrench into the plans just a bit. I'm going to update with all the latest info soon. Thanks for watching.

      We won't have time to get it fixed until after the Winnebago factory trip in July. I'm going to see what they think about it. Thanks!

      Hallelujah! Fiberglas laminated wood is just guaranteed to delam in any RV scenario. Looking at vids like this for tips to fix a customer's newly acquired 10 year old class C. Very nice, low miles, but the delam is already starting.
