I am typically not someone who comments, but I have to say Daniel is by far the most effective teacher of chess I have come across on TH-cam. I’ve been watching some of the other main personalities for months… and none of them come close to his ability in explaining complex ideas to beginners. I also love how regardless of the opening, there are so many instructive moments that present themselves in the middle and end game. In the past 2 weeks I’ve been bingeing this speed run and have gone from 1100 to 1200! Thank you Daniel 🙏
yeah you are right, but most people would consider the falkbeer proper to be 1 e4 e5 2 f4 d5 3 ed e4?! and the transposition only occurs when black plays 3 ... ef4 (which engines think is the best move btw)
This reinforces how just a simple brief check before my own move seems to prevent so many blunders up through this level. Informative explanations again here - so helpful!🙏
The name for the mate at 24:07 Epaulette Mate, with epaulette meaning "a piece of ornamental material on the shoulder of a garment, esp a military uniform," so it's pretty funny to imagine the king wearing the rooks as shoulder ornaments!
13:25 i don't know if Danya saw it, but there's another checkmate sequence that wins you the game. You can attack the bishop with the rook in D3, then the opponent will have to take it with pawn or their rook, then you throw the other rook to e2, which leads to a checkmate sequence with Queen+Rook
After Rxd3 Rxd3 Re2 is a blunder because Re2?? Rd8+ Kg7 Qh8#, so you can't play Re2 (thanks @Michael Finch for pointing out the error in my original comment and Qa1+ after Rxd3). Any other move and Black is down an exchange. You could try Re1+ instead of Re2 but after Kd2 Qa5+ Rc3 I think white can hold on for longer
I love your videos, I watch every one of them, and I learn a lot! Thank you for the generous content. One comment...your sound seems to always be low, I have to turn up the volume, then when I go to something else it's blaring.
Went to watch a video on the Carlsen-Ernst game and found out Magnus was only 12 years old when he played that game. It is hard to imagine there will be a greater talent emerge in the future, and yet it is practically guaranteed. The amount of personal improvement that can be made in chess is boundless. Thanks for the video, absolutely loving the series and it's reinvigorating my interest in chess.
More so to check if his rating is provisional. I don't automatically assume cheating, often I'm just checking to see if there are only a few games played.
At 5:08 when the opponent goes Qf3, and Danya archives, that must be so flattering if you are NickChen925. Got a GM to archive the position to review later. I wonder if he was also checking his blitz rating.
So proud I found re2 but at the same time it's daunting realizing how fast danya thought to play rd8 to set up the idea in the first place. That's the intuition you need to take yourself to new levels
This week I won my first game against a title player, in an online tournament, although I'm still 1500 due to playing far too often absent minded moves when there are no stakes... Yeah, 1500 level games are really just decided on one or two mistakes, I can confirm
I would love to have him analyze some of my games, I’ve spent 20 minutes a move in tournament games and I’m sure he’d just be like “ok so this is an instructive mistake” lol
Wasnt there a game in 2021 (Grand Prix I think?) that followed that same pattern of rooks swallowing the king with the queen rook checkmate? I think Carlson-So?
I prefer playing the "king gambit" where your opponent checkmates you and you punch them in the face. This leaves you down 1 game but leaves them down 1 tooth.
Nc3 would be hard to find over the board as the best move against this line. Would love to see a little mini course where you play the kings gambit yourself. I watched Nepo's recent course and did not find it very helpful. He dismisses a lot of lines I find difficult as white, getting to a certain position and just saying "white is better" or "white is winning", where it is far from obvious, then he gets most worried about g5, because he thinks with best play white is heading into forced draw territory by move 20+. I actually find g5 or the Fischer not a problem at all in practice, it is my preferred line to face as white. I have tried it as black, and even if I am heavily booked on the kings gambit, I tend to lose as black because the position gives so much explosive tactical play to white.
07:57 it is less important the actual move you make it is more important the general approach you take on the position thats the problem danya-sensei we dont know what to do when there is nothing to do
Kind of interesting that he says the Falkbeer Countergambit is just bad when the engine doesn't think so and if you look at a opening's database you can also see that Black wins more often than White in that opening - in fact there's only one rare line with d4 that wins more often with White and all other lines favor Black from a practical statistic point of view - would this not suggest that the Falkbeer Countergambit is objectively and by definition a very good response to the King's Gambit? Unless of course we are talking about only 2500+ rated players in which case it does indeed score rather poorly, but I don't think that is going to affect 99% of players when giving practical opening advice.
Have you ever played 2. Nf6 against the Kings Gambit? I’ve found it’s a very solid weapon. It’s a tad boring, as it is just a version of the petrov, but it definitely offers chances for both sides, and on top of that it’s objectively better than 2.c6, and as black you meet the kings gambit rarely enough that you don’t mind a boring game once in a while
Wait, why do we not hear the board sounds when his headphones die? The audio is still there, it's just not going to his headset, but his recording software should still pick it up
@@mouwersor i’m not saying all the moves he played were suspicious, im just saying it seems like he pulled up the engine when he got pretty confused with the position, and he played some really weird looking moves, i’ve been a 1500 i know what kinda moves they play
I swear 800s I play must be watching your videos because they play much higher rated than 800.in fact with all the info out there for beginners I'm starting to think 800s are far better than the 800s that people played say 2 years ago. I love that I get this knowledge but it also makes my opponents much better. Most my games are decided by a mistake or innacuracy and very rarely a blunder. Whereas watching certain videos on TH-cam it would seem like 800s were playing at 20 percent accuracy just over a year ago before we had Gotham chess and naroditsky etc but now that's not my experience most my games we both play between 70 and 90 percent accuracy
Most of my games at 1600 are usually mid 80s accuracy so either you are playing smurfs or you are just underrated or you play solid opening systems like the london where it’s not that hard to get both accuracy

this was a great game, beautifully played and highly instructive.
@3:50 personally I pick my openings and systems based on how cool they sound :D
why did Daniel 'archive' his opponent at around 5:17? He does that pretty often
I think he got worried he was about to lose to a cheater but then white started making errors
Seems white was playing all the strongest moves so probably just checking if possible cheater
