Previous QLS guest MC Serch....his missus is a massive fan and there's a collaborative connection. The Smiths first NYE gig was with Lovebug Starski---and Factory Records i was basically built on its love of New York, Chicago & Detroit house / club culture.
The late Andy Rourke, played bass and grew up with Johnny in the Smiths....that guy's playing Stanley Clarke over Morrissey lyrics and that's what set them apart from copyists that followed in their wake. It wasn't 'depressing' 'miserable' because Johnny Marr's connection to the latest club and street culture meant they were never going to be this Turn Of The Century relic that only referenced 60s/70s working class English motifs.
