    This is a big blow to US soccer.
    Canada moves in front of the US now.
    Marsch would have made a terrific US National team coach.
    And I was hoping there was someone with a brain in the US Soccer Federation who would dump Berhalter for Marsch.
    Bummer

    Soccer Canada has brand new management & board & so far they have been very impressive, as Kevin Blue, the new general secretary and CEO, has gotten buy-in from the 3 Canadian MLS teams to back the Canadian team with badly needed funds.
    He also, for the 1st time in Canadian history, has arranged for multiple top of the line opponents in friendlies versus the Netherlands & France, before playing Argentina in the Copa Americas.
    So the hiring of Jesse Marsch is yet another great move by Soccer Canada, which is finally heading in a positive direction.
    If Jesse is flexible with his typical aggressive, pressing style of play & adjusts it versus the better countries, this could indeed be a game changer for Canada, heading towards that main goal of achieving success when co-hosting the 2026 World Cup.

      Such pro-CSB and pro CSA nonsense on an old existing, NOT "new" CSA board with many old management and board members still there in power and not resigning and most have ZERO soccer experience like GOLF MAN Kevin Blue with a business suit background like our corrupt past presidents Nick Bontis, Charmaine Crooks and Victor Montaglisni. The so called "buy-in" is only partly funded in rumors so they couldnt pay the whole thing as Cdn soccer teams to benefit Canadian soccer. The solution to needed funds should be ripping the CSB deal. He got a garbage hiring committee headed by a RUGBY man Angus McNab and former MNT players that are affiliated with CSB. Coach chocie is worse when he barely had an success as coach like in Europe with Leeds.
      A garbage move by Canada Soccer in a more DEEP negative directions to DOOM for Canadians Soccer entering the "BLUES" (wink at pun). A game LOSER for Canada towards losses at friendlies. Copa and beyond unless Canada Soccer baord hires soemone better as Secretary with soccer background and better successful coach even consider a Canadian like Bobby Smyrniotis. Hope it happens after Copa failure in new coach for World Cup.

      Crowning that organization is far from appropriate. To be sure, I've seen disaster with the Canadian Soccer Association over many decades, going back to the early 80s. So getting Marsch is a much higher step than what I was expecting and for sure is much better than what past administrations would have been settling for. Also, like yourself, I will indeed credit the organization with lining up fairly challenging tests (against Netherlands and France) in the upcoming weeks, leading up to Copa America. It is far far better than what we've ever had in the past.

    i used to be a huge supporter of jesse marsch, but his stint at leeds revealed some troubling weaknesses in his coaching style, imo...most conspicuously, i found him to be very dogmatic about his team's playing style, forcing them to play "redbull-style" when they lacked the personnel to do so, and refusing to make pragmatic tactical choices. i think this dogmatism will be even more problematical as a national team coach, because there is a very limited amount of time spent with the players on a national team, so it's essentially impossible to institute a club-like playing style. lol, better canada than usmnt though! good luck to him, i'd be happy to be proven wrong.

    • @Phogadacbiet
      @Phogadacbiet 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Couldn’t have said it better myself. You pair that with the fact that his style also leads to wearing down players physically, and you now add injury risk to the list of challenges under Marsch.

  • @UnitedDemon1
    @UnitedDemon1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I think Herc’s analysis skips over something that seems very clear about Canada’s current pool. They have four dynamic forwards, but behind them are a few MLS quality players and then some real scrubs to fill it out. Their best player loves countering into width and space, and their offense lives when he’s doing his thing. Playing Redbull soccer means that space and width will not be there for him, and the rest of the team I doubt can handle a high line. In short, I think Davies would love to play AGAINST the style Canada are likely to play.

    I think he's a good coach and wish him well. Starting off with friendlies vs. Netherlands and France ahead of an important Copa America is a little tricky. He has literally no time but has the benefit of day-to-day management experience to get up to speed. Canada fans likely need to have some patience and not expect much from the friendlies but a great Copa run would be terrific for Canada. TBF I'm not sure Marsch was even right for the US side as I think they needed an even more experienced manager at this stage. But they stuck with what they had that got fair CONCACAF results.
