- Anne Baxter described her life in terms of a meal - a fantastic smorgasbord during her career, and she was excited to enjoy her later life 'dessert'. But fate had other plans for one of Hollywood's most beloved movie stars.

Is 'The Ten Commandments' your favorite Easter movie? If not, leave us a reply to tell us what your favorite is!
At my age I can probably recite most of the script. Young Frankenstein perhaps a tad more!😂
Hollywood has a very skewed viewpoint of the actual (KJV) Bible.
It doesn't help that Hollywood is big on promoting the fuzzy feelings of pagan holidays for people who thing this is about being a good Christian.
Many are being mislead through Hollywood, music industry, and the great false god of gODVERNMENT.
@@HollywoodMysteries The Sound of Music 🎶. To this day, major stations air this film during Easter weekend.
looooove the 10 C!!!
It’s a Passover movie.
All About Eve is one of the best films ever made.
@QueenOfTheNorth65 SO THEY SAY ...but literally Mank was far 2 literal, literalistically literal, obsessed with linguistic flashiness, wit & abundance of verbal rhythm. Perhaps in his next life, aaafto 2 consecutive double oscar wins, he chose a career change, and became an architect of littoral amphibious landing crafts ...Heaven Knows, Mr Allison ...what a poet - as proven in THE BAREFOOT CONTESSA. Such literature ...
I've been an All About Eve-type situation, and believe me, it's no fun :(
@@AAZEDLARC you mean like a single white female situation? Because you're just so fascinating that you attract borderline personality types who want to be you?
No one could have played "Eve" better than Anne Baxter. After watching her performance I will never look at an award ceremony "Thank you" speech the same way again.
She was truly underrated. I love the care and real detail you put into this channel. You speak of these people as one should thank you for that.
@@virginiaariaz4214 I loved her in Columbo. I just saw her in Love Boat
@@Melody-ks7mo I don’t think I ever saw those episodes. I’m sure she was brilliant in them though, she truly had so much talent.
@@Melody-ks7mo Loved her in Banacek.
Well done. Anne was always a little different than the rest of the herd of actresses that came out of Hollywood at that time. She seemed to exhude intelligence and strength and was all about the acting rather than personality or glamour. She was lucky that her career coincided with the studio system so she had a great opportunity to play a good variety of parts to perfect her craft.
@@ladywisewolf3942 it’s not surprising that she was a bit different from the herd. She’s buried in the family plot of her grandfather, Frank Lloyd Wright!!
@@victoriawittelsbach5808 Yes, my favorite is "All About Eve" but "The Razor's Edge" just breaks your heart.
Thank you
I liked Angel on my Shoulder
Beautifully narrated. Baxter just didn't seem to age.
I personally loved Ann Baxter! Especially in the 10 Commandments, all her movies were/ are great. Ann is right up there worth Esther Williams, and so many more... Great job on this episode as always!
Beautiful Talented Actor, thank you for recognizing her.
Long before the "Ten Commandments" became a TV Easter staple, it was a HUGE theater box office attraction! Huge!! You made it seem like it went straight to TV. Even now - today - some movie houses host special screenings because there's nothing like it on the big screen.
You also didn't mention Baxter's memorable role in
"Requiem for a Falling Star"
Columbo episode (season 2, episode 5). She was outstanding & Columbo was major TV. Still is for many.
I had no idea Baxter was granddaughter of the Great Frank Lloyd Wright! Wow!! You refer to him (at the end) as her "Father." Need to go back & correct that.
Cerebral hemmorage at 62. Deep.
This was nice. Thanks!
@@SaaharaGlaude she might have not mentioned the Columbo episode due to the fact you can’t find it on streaming anywhere. Believe me I looked because I’ve never seen Anne in anything really but the Ten Commandments and I love her. I’m sad I can’t find it.
I have always absolutely loved Anne Baxter. I consider her one of Hollywood's greatest actresses. I have watched "All About Eve" at least 20 times in the past 50 years and enjoy it like it is the first time I have ever seen the movie. I always watch her in "The Ten Commandments" every single year since I was a little boy. She aged so elegantly and so well. Loved her TV performances as well.
I had always been told she died of cancer!! I had no idea that a cerebral hemorrhage took her life so young. She had many more good years left to perform. God took her way too soon. I will never ever forget Anne Baxter. God Rest Her beautiful soul.❤❤❤
ANNE BAXTER was naturally great in the THE TEN COMMANDMENTS!!!
First time viewer. I was impressed by many facts I had not previously been aware of. And, you have a pleasant speaking voice which makes it so much easier to listen to! So many people forget about their elocution when creating these videos! Great job.
nice speaking voice but a tad affected. no need to stretch out almost every wooooooorrrrrrrrrd.
In "The Sullivans" she played the wife of the youngest Sullivan brother and was memorable. The sister was played by Trudy Marshall, whose daughter, Deborah Raffin was a popular actress in Asia. I think Anne Baxter was highly appealing in "I Confess".
Awwww, young Anne was SO ADORABLE.. All About Eve is absolutely a fave of mine ❤❤❤ Michelle Williams should play her !!
The narrator mentions again and again that such and so film was a failure, a dud, that Anne Baxter may have been miscast etc. I’ve been watching these old films for 60 years. The Ten Commandments came out when I was little. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Baxter drop the ball. And when I saw the Magnificent Ambersons as a kid I was very impressed. Too much criticism here.
@@silverstuff182 it was the film, not her. She was one of the best!
Sunday Dinner for Soldier is an underrated masterpiece. I loved her also in A Guest in the House.
~ Love that movie. (A Guest in the House) I re-watch at least every year. She plays a great psycho!
She had a good role in 'razors edge' with tyrone power and gene Tierney
Yeah, she's really terrific in that movie. One of my favorites
Excellently done, HM. 41 episodes and not a dud in the bunch. I'd call that perfection.
Thank you!
That sure is the truth!!!👏👏👏😊
I love her, she was beautiful especially playing neferteri. She truly was an egyptian queen.
Indeed 👌 uk.
hello All About Eve , is one of the best films ever made , not one wasted line. great share, thank you , for sharing .....🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰................
Well done biography. I always look forward to your videos to see who you will feature next! Thanks again for your wonderful content!
Our pleasure!
I thoroughly enjoyed this. First time watching and now a subscriber. I love the elegance of the golden age of Hollywood films.
Welcome!
I can’t believe her ex-husband’s life insurance would go to his parents and not his s own daughter.😮
@@imcnagpc2 whoever is on the beneficiary form. Doesn't sound like a nice guy. But maybe his kids weren't nice people either.
I don't think Anne Baxter was in Forbidden Planet. It was Anne Francis.
@@normacousins7482 Maybe she was the invisible Monster of the Id!
Correct Anne Francis
Love your channel always facinating to watch but here in Australia we dont have ranchers lol we call them station owners and the american cowboys are called ringers
@kimmohekey7850 AND WELLS BILLABONGS ... dames sheilas ...Kimmo = a finnish male name
@@sulevisydanmaa9981 we have so many Aussie words we forget other coun tries dont use them aswell lol
Cowboys are called "Ringers," I guess, because they use a lasso. Is that right?
@@billolsen4360 I honestly dont know lol but you now have made me curious to find out thankyou I shall let you knw if I can find out. I find it funny we have so many slang terms for things here and often forget that others have no idea what we must say half the time lol we talk more slang than english sometimes
Chase a Crooked Shadow is an amazing film. I highly recommend it.
She was Frank Lloyd Wright's granddaughter ....American Royalty
crazy beautiful. great columbo villain too.
@@ajdc88 She was stunning in that role Hair, makeup, wardrobe 💃
@@ajdc88 She certainly was!
And Batman villain, twice!
I like Anne's voice. I like it that Anne stood for what she believed when she didn't have to go against the grain. I really liked Fred MacMurray. She had alot of famous costars. She wasn't fake. She was very pretty. She was probably naive about the guy being a mobster.
You put together a fine biography of Miss Baxter. Anne looked GREAT in Cimarron! Randolph Galt pursued a close friend of mine ardently proposing marriage in the late 70's, but she turned him down.
I give Ms. Baxter credit for having a long and varied career. But I always find an abrasive quality to her work which I find disconcerting. It did serve her well in All About Eve I guess. About her Oscar, it was one of those roles that always gets attention. The whole cast was great.
This was great! Thanks!
I loved Anne Baxter in the Ten Commandments. I wanted to grow up just like her character.
Love your series of videos profiling Hollywood stars. Great job on your Anne Baxter biography! One small correction: The Razor’s Edge was not in Technicolor, it was a b&w film. Keep up the great work with your series. I subscribed and will keep an eye out for your new videos. 👍🏻
Her memoir, INTERMISSION, is a fascinating account of her marriage and life in the Outback as the wife of an Australian rancher. It was never an easy time to totally change her life, but she was in love and determined to make it work.
The book is well worth reading.
I think that her role in Moses was amazing
I have to say have never heard such a long endless list of movies which never head of! I have heard of "All About Eve" but never saw it. The only only other definately now is of course the "Ten Commandments" but ....I was shocked to hear Nefertiri was Ann Baxter. I was like, "finally" first time I know who she is ! Strange really. I think it is all those never heard of movies that made this so for me. I am 72, grew up in her time, yet first time I could "place her."
She was a really good actress,I love All About Eve!
Really enjoyed this! I read Anne's book Intermission many years ago and found her a fascinating personality.
It's so good!
Very detailed, thank you.
She was a beautiful and great actress .❤
I was very impressed that she battled the studio during the filming of TEN COMMANDMENTS and refused to wear a bra.
Anne Baxter was iconic, and a personal fave of mine.
I have a number of her films - the underrated " Blue Gardenia", 'I,Confess', "All About Eve" (which I personally regard as one of the greatest movies ever made.
She hit her zenith in the role of Nefretari in ' The Ten Commandments" and her last great role in my view in "Chase A Crooked Shadow"
This is my first viewing of your channel and enjoyed the video immensely! ❤ I look forward to many hours spent on your channel 👏🎬
Someone must have been looking out that Baxter and Davis ended up filling in on All About Eve. They are the film.
I don't come here to bash Anne Baxter, but I do remember how petty and small-minded she was about Marilyn Monroe, in particular. Anne had the bad luck of competing for many of the same roles, but just didn't have the charisma. It seemed to make her bitter, and I remember seeing one interview in particular on a Chicago public television station that put me right off her at a young age. She had her achievements, but I wonder if she was truly happy.
She is true Nefertiti 😊 😜
Anne Baxter had the quality that many film actors have. When you watch her, you see all kinds of things happening beneath the surface. She's able to tap into the whole devious and suspect side of human nature, and you want to know more when you look at her. Winona Ryder has the same kind of energy. Many film actors make you wonder what's happening, and it's because they're tapping into something multi-faceted inside of themselves. I really love and Baxter, obviously.
'The Razor's Edge' "richly produced in Technicolor"? . . And I wish you could specify who was miscast in that film. . .
Ann Baxter was so good in the Razors Edge
All About Eve is a bona fide masterpiece. I saw it on late night television when I was 13 and established Anne in my consciousness as a 14 karat star I didn't know till that night. She remains a warm glow in my heart to this day.
Ms. Baxter reached HER career apogee as Eve Harrington opposite Ms. Davis' equally inspired turn as Margo...🌟
In Mankiewcz' absolute masterpiece, '50 multi- Oscar winner!! BOFFO to ALL!!❤ ✨🎉💫💕🙀💐
What does BOFFO mean ?🤔
I Loved Her In The Ten Commandments
Yes I watch it right when I get home from church ⛪️ every Easter 🙌 I have it on DVD ❤
The Blue Gardenia (1953) with Raymond Burr.
No matter what, when Anne Baxter enters my thoughts or a conversation, the first and lasting thing that comes to my mind is "OOOhhhhhm Moooooses, Moooooses!" And in watching "The Ten Commandents," her scenes send me giggling every time. That has got to be one of the campiest performances from Old Hollywood. She had a penchant for over-acting and I certainly would never classify as 'one of the greats' from 'the Studio Days.'
She was a dangerous kitten in "Eve."
She played Queen Hatsheput as the princess in the river who saved the baby . Now we know the details, she was always praying to God for a baby boy and heir. In retrospect, she was the perfect protagonist.
No she played Nefertiri the wife of Ramses. Another actress played Bithia, Moses’ adopted Egyptian mother.
@@bethparker1500 nope!
Queen Hatshepsut was never connected to Ramses, she lived in other times. The Princess who finds baby Moses is commonly known as Bithia. Ramses' "great royal wife" was Nefertari.
That photo wasn't Roosevelt, it was Truman.
Incredible amount of films
Interesting!
I have enjoyed several Hollywood Mysteries. Can you tell me who does the voice over? Definitely adds something!
I do it myself, thanks for watching
@@HollywoodMysteries Who is me??😀
Hi, you have a very beautiful voice, would love to hear you sing - have a beautiful day...❤😊❤
Always loved Anne Baxter. She was outstanding in "All About Eve" and "The Magnificent Ambersons". Anne was riveting when she played a woman whose evil lover encourages her to kill her husband. Even though she played a disturbed woman, you still felt empathy for her.
I so loved this, thank you…
Thanks ❤😊
I remember watching her on the ten commandments my favorite movie when I was a kid such good acting
New sub.Old film exec/exhibitor..Very good. Kept me interested.Surprised Ms. Baxter was in so many of my personal favorites. Sullivans,Eve,10 Commandments.Looking forward to Ms. Wong.
Growing up I absolutely adored her in the 10 Comandments. A lot of old Hollywood stars look like old Hollywood. But I swear you could drop her in a gown at the met gala today and she would slay.
Did I miss in the video her superb performance in Mrs Robinson, the iconic movie of its time? Great video
That would be Anne Bancroft - also a great actress!
My favorite is “The Luck of the Irish”.
@@ingridbergman2583 I like it too. She is charming in it !
I must've missed the mystery. Where's the mystery?
thank you.
I just noticed her dress in the ten commandments is truly a see through... Whoa😂😂😂
Pretty wild for the time!
I watched so many times this movie just to see her costume she look’s true Egyptian queen. Uk 🇬🇧
sex kitten indeed! i love her in everything and appreciate the chance to watch this despite not watching gena rowlands and claudette colbert yet.
Beautiful lady great actress!! 🙏🌹
my favorite actress
not the first time i have heard of some bad behavior by katherine hepburn. in my opinion, hollywood’s most overrated star.
I have been an old movie buff for a long time. I'm 70 yrs old. I enjoyed Anne Baxter's biography so I became a new subscriber. The Ten commandments is one of my favorite films. But, as Messianic Jew I look at it as a Passover film. Ben Hur is my Easter film. I hope you do 3 biographies. Charlton Heston, Tyrone Power, and Claude Reins. ❤
"The North Star" . 🎉😊
So what was the mystery?
Oh Moses, Moses, Moses!
Silverscreen actresses ( no matter who they are) r just so striking..
What in the world made sleazy directors think a 16yr ol Anne would b the original cohort t a 39yr ol Olivier in Rebecca?
You did not mention her part in columbo. I must say im disappointed.
@@gregorywilliams5606 That was a television show, not a Hollywood movie.
So what? That T.V. show was in Hollywood. It still should have been mentioned.@Howie-du7ov
Banacek wasn't mentioned, either.
ARLENE DAHL next, an even more ...norwegian, lived till 96, Rhonda did till 97. Both were kinda ...SLIGHTLY SCARLET - a technicolor scope noir by DWAN, 1st essential class ..
An exception t the norm of most of the actresses of her day.
Pretty decent actress 2
Your voice is soothing. ❤
@@jplenty7 that's what my husband said, and i was so disappointed, i took a fifteen second clip of audio and plugged it into some half dozen ai detectors, and they all deemed manipulation highly unlikely.
I like Battlestar Galactica with Katy Sackoff in the lead role and all the stargate series.....😊
Katee was part of an ensemble cast. Technically, Edward James Olmos was the star. Tried to watch this remake [usually like Olmos], but it was way too easy for me to call what was happening. Went back a season or so later, only to call the end. What a yawn, despite good actors.
Surprised they didn’t mention her famous role in “ Forbidden Planet”. A Classic of Sci Fi
That was Anne Francis not Miss Baxter.
Good catch, totally different actresses in style.
@@davidqualls7986 her best role was in "Blackboard Jungle".
This is the 1st time I learned she was the grand daughter of Frank Lloyd Wright.
Wasn't she a "guest star killer" in one of the Columbo episodes?
Who narrated this. Sounds familiar
How do u know?
The Graduate-was it even mentioned? 🤦♀️
That would be Anne Bancroft. We’ll do a video on her one day, stay tuned

Ann Baxter was unlucky about the fact her rivals were true beauties 😊😊😊😊😊
@@bobtaylor170 I understand. But there was the Hollywood parameters…
Anne Baxter was on Batman in the 1960’s.
So what happened to her children? 🤔
I never realized she was so buxom

The Razors Edge was filmed in black & white and not technicolor….
