Going into this I never really thought enough of what makes a great bag for me. I would just think mainly of the colour and whether it was a side bag with short or long staps, or a backpack for school.
Anyhow, before I watched the video I thought I would absolutely love the Everlane tote the most b/c it has the most room and has that smooth texture, which I like the look of v much. By the end, I really leaned towards the Linjer tote. It has the most structure out of all the bags which really I realized is what makes it for me, and that it had no branding which is a huge preference of mine.

Great review Jamie! I have been looking at cuyana for a long time and I haven't bit the bullet yet as I want to see what their medium tote that will be coming soon is going to be like! The price in Canadian for anything on there hurts a bit which helps me to press pause too... I am realizing my style is quite classic when it comes to bag and so I want to invest in some better ones. And I am also all for pebbled leather. I bought the aritizia silo hobo bag and its a throw everything in grab and go bag and the leather is aging beautifully.
Yeah it's definitely a bit of an investment but I can say from experience it's worth the purchase. My last Cuyana bag lasted me 5 years before I decided to part with it (and it was only because I got oil stains on the front that I couldn't get rid of). Oh that sounds beautiful!! Love a good hobo bag :)
freckledklutz they have a medium tote coming soon??? 🤭. I just looked. Yes, “early access” if you sign up. They come with a zipped top and a crossbody strap. It looks about the same as the Madewell medium one. I don’t know. I like the look of these larger totes but maybe. 🤔

I’ve been debating between everlane and cuyana zippered totes and finally went down to soho to see them in person and am so glad I did because everlane looked and felt plasticky and not deep enough. I was certain that I wanted the zippered tote but it did not look nice, not as nice as the structured tote. The structured tote was love at first sight so that’s the one I bought. I ordered a tote organizer from amazon. I can’t wait to start using it!
what organizer did you get from amazon?
I’ve been using the Cuyana daily for over six months and it still looks amazing. The quality is amazing.

Glad it was helpful! I don't know when it was released but I'm pretty sure the structured one wasn't available when I bought my first tote - I much prefer it over their unlined version for sure! x
I have a Saint Laurent East West tote in black and I absolutely love it! I do agree that there are less expensive totes that are still high quality pieces. Plus, luxury name doesn’t always signify high quality, as it’s been an issue with luxury designer brands lately 🙁
That's so true - definitely a lot of incredible bags out there at a more mid-priced point where are just as good! :)
I found this video while searching for comparisons between Madewell and Portland Leather Goods totes. I'd never heard of Linjer, but that is one gorgeous bag! I have 2 Cuyana totes (larger and small) and I love them, but wanted something with a more secure top closure.
It's lovely isn't it? They make such beautiful handbags. If you wanted something with a fully secure closure, have you considered the zipper tote from Cuyana? xx

I've been hoping for a comparison of Cuyana vs Everlane forever, thank you! You're a treasure. For some reason, pebble leather has always felt "cheaper" to me even if it's not actually the case, so I wish Cuyana provided a smooth one. Can't beat Everlane for variety + smooth leather quality (I write this knowing I'll buy both totes by the end of the year).
Yay so glad you enjoyed it! Mmm I can totally see what you mean. I always prefer a pebble leather just as I find that it's so much more hard wearing - smooth leather tends to show and pick up lots of little scratches. I'm not sure for totes but I think they have some other bags which are in a smooth leather which look gorgeous!

Sharp OG Eve cuyana has a zippered version of the structured tote bag now too. It's totally on my wish list :)
Yes there's a zippered version - I personally preferred the 'open' style more aesthetically but the leather is gorgeous on all Cuyana totes :)

Hi, thank you for the great videos! so i noticed since you have lots of open bags, I was wondering if you have tips to secure your items inside???
Hi Lily, we're pretty fortunate that pickpockets aren't much of a thing here in Sydney, so it's not something I generally have to give too much thought to. However, if I was wanted to secure items, I would put them in lightweight zip up pouches. You can also get handbag organisers that have a canvas section that can be secured with a tie, and usually most of these kinds of bags have some sort of inner pocket (the cuyana one zips which is great). Hope that gives you a few ideas x

The Linjer is so so pretty! I have the Everlane tote and I love it, although I wish it would hold it's shape a bit better

Of all three brands Everlane definitely has the best colours. I personally really like their new square day tote. It's a smaller size and has become the one I alternate with the Guyana one x
Hmmmm -- I have three Everlane Totes. Ya think I need a Cuyana as well? Probably. :) I don't know if I can explain myself quite well with this but do you find that the structured Cuyana is nicer than the unstructured Cuyana? I used to have the unstructured one and I found myself not liking how things would poke through the leather when I was wearing it. I know I could have put a purse organizer inside of it to keep it more shaped but eventually the flop plop vibe just got to me. xoxo
Haha yes I do! ;) Though I'm the worst enabler. So yes, I do think that the structured one is nicer than the unstructured one. It isn't a raw leather interior which I prefer as I found that with my prior bag, this stained items that I put in it. It does still have that floppiness to it though, so items will poke through. I really need to get the purse organiser for it as I'm super curious how that would look! x

The Everlane market tote is the lightest, and then for heaviest, it's a toss up between the Linjer and Cuyana totes x
Hi, Im having a hard time deciding between the Cuyana structured tote vs the classic style Vs Everlane :( plz advise
100% go with the Cuyana structured tote. It's my favourite of the bunch; it has a slightly loose shape, but it really works, and the quality is amazing. However, if you want structure, then I would get a tote from Everlane. They're launching some new totes in the next couple weeks so I would wait until those come out if you want a few more sizing options :)

Thank you! I haven’t owned the Madewell tote but it’s very similar to the regular Cuyana style. I have seen it in person and it did appear to me it might be the type that would mark up easily on the leather but not having owned one I couldn’t say for sure x

Hello! Would you say the Everlane Day Square Tote (I know the one in the video is the regular size) is more professional looking than the Cuyana Structured Tote since Everlane uses smooth leather? I have the Cuyana Structured Tote in black and was going to use it as boardroom/business meeting/interview bag but it seems to be a little big on me (I’m 5’4”). Was wondering if it’s worth the plunge to get the Everlane Square Tote since it’s slightly smaller in size plus smooth leather. Thanks in advance!
I would say from a structural point of view, yes. TLDR: My preference is the day square however I think the market tote has more interesting colour options!

I'm worried about the Cuyana marking clothes, inside and outside. How's the color transfer been?
Because I opted for the structured option which is lined, I haven't had any colour transfer at all on the interior, and it hasn't rubbed on my clothing at all from what I've noticed

I have actually been using it today! it's softened up a little but can still stand up (with a bit of a slouch) - I'm so happy with it and would 100% recommend buying it x

So, I listen (almost) all the fashion influencers ... about what is good ... or bad ... on the totes currently produced. And ... what I really want to know ... is what's missing ... but it shouldn't - in a decent tote bag.

Loved the video, Thank You. I’m gravitating towards the linjer tote. In your opinion is it worth the significant increase in price? I am a sucker for good leather and don’t mind spending on quality but want to make sure it is superior in quality to the cuyana.
So glad to hear it! The leather on the Linjer tote is more prone to scratches I've found (although I'm not sure if that's because it's a brown vs black bag), though from experience you will get that same corner wear with the CUyana tote - it's kinda unavoidable. I think the cotton interior makes the Linjer tote feel more expensive, and you get a much more luxury experience when you receive it (it comes in the most beautiful box). The leather is stiffer too, so it's going to retain its shape a lot better. I hope that helps your decision! x
Amanthi Chandraratna Based on many reviews I’ve read, Linjer has the best finishing And workmanship, and overall holds up the best in terms of shape, appearance, and patina after prolonged use. It is the only one out of the three that is made out of leather which is tanned the old fashioned way using vegetable dyes. I just ordered another design from Linjer so I have yet to see these bags in person. I have heard nothing but good things.
Hi Jamie, hope you don’t mind if I request an Everlane video - the company will charge 10 per cent GST on all Australian orders from June 18. I don’t own any Everlane pieces but have been planning to bite the bullet and stock up and now avoiding paying GST is incentive to get a move on. So my video request is - if you had a $500 budget, what Everlane pieces would you spend it on? Understand if you don’t have time to do it but thought I’d suggest the idea.
