  • Today I am bought a new welder at Harbor Freight. I paid around $1000 for this welder, so it is not cheap, but it certainly is not top of the line either. Let's find out how it welds. I be trying out gas less Flux Core welding and Stick welding.

i just picked one of these up off marketplace for 550. it was brand new unopened. i dont know how to weld at all. i figured for that price though ya kind of cant go wrong. my buddy did some welding in a t shirt and learned a lesson. wear long sleeves, the burn he got was pretty bad.

I have had this welder for over 3 years & never used Flux core wire on it,all ways argon 75/25, it has never let me down, I don't weld over rust , I all ways make sure the metal is clean, I did fix a cast iron exhaust but I pre heated the metal before welding and it is still holding up but I honestly don't recommend welding cast iron.
It's a great welder for the price.
    Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the comment. I want to get an argon tank to try it out with gas soon.

Night & day it's so much more smoother then using fluxcore, while fluxcore does weld using argon actually helps you improve the weld because I can see the puddle so much better without all the splatter, I bought an 80cf tank on ebay for $100 shipped to my house but I have seen them double in price & ever sine covid it cost me $65 to fill, it's something to think about ,but once you use it you will never go back to flux.
      👍🏼😎👍🏼

Thanks for making your harbor freight welder experience video. Some things I noticed to improve your outcome, most rotors are cast iron. Not to suited for flux Mig welding. Your welding on a wooden floor in your shed. Gas cans are Less than 25' away from you welding. Flammable materials such as aerosol cans are close too. I know your ready to get into this welding but please take some precautions to your process. I would like to see you survive this for another video.

The other side of that "gauge disk" will have the actual gauge number on it. Just an FYI.

I had this welder for over 3 years. Also have spool gun. I had no issues and think it’s a great welder for hobbyist. I ran maybe 50lbs of wire and 20lbs of rods. I also have a Miller 255 which is about 5x more expensive. Just sayin I think the 220 welds as good as my 255 it’s just not as robust feeling. I wouldn’t run dual shield through it but short circuit mig I have no complaints.

This is a good review, sir. I liked it a lot. With all due respect, though I am a welder and I have to say you were running those 6011s WAY too hot. An 1/8 6011 should be run about 75-90 amps depending on the position you are welding. According to my welding instructor, you can strike an arc at 40 amps, but I haven't tried that. 175 or even 125 is extreme for a 1/8 6011. You just need to practice striking the arc. Once you get used to it, they will strike easily.
Like I said though, this video was great. I`m looking to step up to a multi process machine for my own, and I`m researching this machine among others.

You a cool dude but made a bad review video because you didn’t give it a fair star, to start always clean the work piece wherever your gonna weld has to be clean a inch away from weld because paint and rust will contaminate the weld, also the rotors were cast not right process for materiel, second on the muffler Same mistake dirty work piece, also ditch the flux core wire and get a argon mix cylinder and never look back.

You have a nice shop, hope it ain't attached to your house or close to it, welding next to gas cans is not a real good idea, storage of flammable's ain't a joke, spent 34 years (23 professionally) fixing things like that, sometimes with fatalities. be safe and keep them fire boy's at the station patting the dalmatian and playing checkers.

Stopped the video halfway to commit on the gas cans, dang you are trying to burn your shop down, welding on that wood ramp with all that tender underneath? 🤣🤣🤣"Like a good neighbor, state farm is there 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥"

Just bad luck. Ive bought many things from harbor freight as a home mechanic, this welder included, and I was able to weld a truss onto my Dana 30 axle with no issues at all. There was a time where the new hercules impact driver I bought twice from harbor freighr was a dud twice, but HF never gave me any issues swapping it out at all until I got a good one. As for the other stuff Ive had lots of luck and its lasted me many years.
