He's probably at max gauge there, or extremely close to it, these are essentially tiles, not slates, while they are called synthetic slates, the process is basically the same as tiles, only without the battens.
I think there is a lip where it interlocks. Coated nails can handle water. I would like to see Stainless nails though. Not ring shank because repairs would be too difficult.
Even with the high quality felt being used the overlaps seem a bit tight esp for what is a relatively low angle roof. I would worry about the durability of the material too - you can claim a 40 yr lifespan but the risk is high. With labor the biggest cost always use the right quality material and enough of it! Of course if its just a shed or garage then fair enough.
we just pulled a bunch of this stuff off on a copper repair job. 20-year-old tiles and still as pliable as in this video surprisingly. didnt break a one
@@alexboyun7630 oh yeah, fair point, definitely start on the left then haha seems an annoying system to work with though, and looks like not much cover on the nail, closest thing we got in UK is cambrian slates and there only fixed at the top

He is nailing in the correct location per the install guide or as I remember. They have 4 marks for nailing. For a 2 nail application you use the outer 2. For high wind application you 4 nail it.
This material looks like it is type of plastic and from what I could find it says it will last 40 or 50 years with some type of warranty. Very expensive. Might as well get a roof structure that can support a slate roof that could last longer and probably not pay much more. Good luck using your warranty for this roof when the company changes hands or closes.
That's because they're synthetic slate, lighter than natural slate or tile so the lack of weight makes them more likely to lift in high wind. A few other lightweight synthetic slate specify ring shanks. I do agree that it makes repairs a nightmare tho haha
@coilinflaherty355 depends on how much you're willing to spend... some people do traditional slate roofing but with hail, high winds throwing debris etc that usually results in a lot of broken slates. Some do clay tiles but it's the same issue, tar shingles actually hold up best to damage since they absorb impacts and aren't solid like metal to leave a dent. Tar forms the best sealer by far of any roof, and it's the cheapest and easiest to replace. The United States builds Millions of homes a year, something a European nation could never hope to match... not to mention most of Europe had to be rebuilt in the 1940s by American $$$ and labor because of a war you started 😂
If you're right handed, you work left to right on a roof. Right to left would be much harder for a right handed roofer, I've laid thousands of shingles in my 34 years roofing, and I hate when I have to work right to left, but there are times when that's just how it works out.
When your using interlocking tiles, like these artificial slates, the channels are always on the left. No matter what handed you are, it's easier to tile in from right to left. Natural slate and shingles doesn't matter and would be the persons preference
Water will leak between the joints surely, they should overlap a good bit more
They have a channel like a tile that might help wid less over lap
@sybennett7392 yeah but with tiles the channel runs the lengths of the tile where this channel ends where it meets the other slate
You missed the bottom detail. It seals well.
@@Geo-vw9oz your right bud 👍
@Geo-vw9oz thank you! I posy this on a lot of these types of videos and no one else sees it either
We use tapco(davinci) on conservatory roofs in the uk.
They're pretty weather tight if lapped correctly.
5mm over lap from the nail seems legit
the fuck u talking bout tweak?
Water flows down

Water is gonna hit every seam and nail lol

@@redimage4255so they’re good?
Tile from right to left and you wont have to force than channel under every time
There is a nail tap at bottom right corner

How easy that looks..but I'm wondering if those sweat drops cause stains??
It’s just like rain, it doesn’t leave stains!
You are one special idiot 😂
I love all the expert comments on here.
🤣🤣🤣
I think these bend into the joints which makes it watertight tight due to there flexibility there for makes it water tight
That will leak . Aren't they supposed to be fixed in the nail channel bit further up where it's counter sunk ?

not on my roof soon as that water groove gets clogged water in the house
I've got a problem with actual tiles. But the tree is coming down and I can clean them. You're ffed here.
They look flexible are they some rubber tile or some composit resin they deff not hard...
I bet there good won't crack so no repairs needed
Water might get into vertical junction of 2 tiles and run under the row of times below, curious.
I like your videos
Why not use stainless steel nails?
Where is this and what's the annual rainfall?
What’s preventing water from penetrating the gap in between the tiles?
gravity
@@NoobHordeFK yeah but it’s only overlapping a couple inches.
There is a drainage channell
And the gaps?😱
Single use plastic ?
1mm cover on the nail is good
Improper installation
Wow rubber slate's 👍 I've never seen them before, how expensive are they ? Anyone know.....please leave a reply, thanks.
How would you remove a single tile for replacement in future?
slate hook works fine these things are super pliable even after 20 years
No headlap?
No one else in the comments can even tell you what headlap is👍

Daltile perennial porcelain slate is the future🎉🎉🎉
Ho, des ardoises flexibles très pratiques et certainement moins lourdes
More lap especially at the low pitch
How much you guys charge for removal o concrete tile and da Vinci slate installation on a 10/12 roof?
I think the mail on te 👂 botón is gonna leak?
How does it burn?
Bonito
Give it a few years and the UV rays from the sun will destroy that plastic show me what it looks like then😂
There's no water there's enough cover on any of that
Superdura synthetic slate.... probably done a thousand sqares....it has issues
No head lap, water will blow up and in
I think these are gonna be banana tiles after 10 years because of UV light
This is made out of tires. Lifetime guaranteed
What is the lifetime
Fuite!!!
Donde consigo eso
Yah, that's not right. The overlap isn't good. You're relying on the paper. No Bueno
There is no cover
Wie sollen die Fugen dicht sein?🤦
That’s gonna leak
Those rubber slates are poxy.
Lads your better off wrapping the roof in condoms..
Keeps out all sorts even bad bacteria 😂.

Awfull 😂
I'd be embarrassed to have thay roof 😅
Haha, fricken plastic roof. What’s next Saran Wrap roofs….?
Omg no..just no
Another resin based synthetic slate. I don’t know this brand but can name 5 that have failed previously 😂
Le plastique c'est fantastique 😂🤣🤣
Nail pressure is way to high. Concave depression in material.
Look smart but will they not bleach?
In England some clown specified using stainless steel annular ring nails so when you try to do a repair you shag up half the roof.
or so that the nails dont rust 😂

Just use real slate
Yeh I keep seeing these "man made solutions/improvements", which just look naff.
Это что за материал?
engineered polymer, trade secret formula for durability and uv resistance. 100% recyclable and have a long warranty, but they are very expensive
Haha..must be the states.. their roofs are shocking
This would be a huge improvement over tar shingles here in the states lmao.
I'm glad you said it...boggles the brain what they call roofing in America 😅
American residential roofing is the biggest insult to the profession to ever happen.

Atheist it's not shi..y shingles

Shit roof panels really
. Fake slate
Nail straight to boards ?

Насколько герметичное такое покрытие?
Its like a fake Rolex. Says quite a bit about the homeowner.
this stuff is significantly lighter. often when you slate a roof you need to reinforce it from the frame up
Amazing job.
