He went over the horseshoe falls not Niagara Falls. Proven especially by getting an award from Niagara Falls Canada and not NY.

The pic is actually of Bobby Leach before he did a parachute descent from the Upper Steel ARCH BRIDGE (or Honeymoon Bridge) on July 1st 1907, with the chute, rented from Leo Steven’s, billowing in the background. The chute actually blew off the anchor point twice before Leach was able to sit on a trapeze bar underneath it and it was released to descend into the river. He was supposed to repeat the stunt on July 4 for the American holiday, but the railway that owned the bridge denied permission. Leach later made a jump from an airplane above the falls (in 1920) landing in fields around Lundy’s Lane.

I'd watch a movie about Bobby Leach. Someone in his family should write a book and then adapt it to a screenplay. I love that the medal is for "Pluck and Grit." This is such a good story.

The picture is actually of Bobby Leach on the Steel Arch Bridge before he did a parachute descent from the Steel Arch Bridge down into the Niagara River on July 1st in about 1907. He was supposed to repeat the stunt on July 4th for the American holiday but the Railway company that owned the bridge denied permission for the second jump. Leach did several parachute jumps from balloons in the early days and in 1920 or so did a parachute jump from a plane landing in fields back from the river near Lundy’s Lane.

I wish they would have bothered to mentioned that the first human to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel was Annie Edson Taylor--who was 63 when she went over.

What a man! I remember the "pluck and grit" phrase from my childhood visit to the Falls when I was 8 or so.
