@@FlowerChild65 another character I wished they brought back for a scene in the Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

This, for me, foreshadowed her downward spiral. She can’t even do without her mom (who is only half an hour away) for one night but wants to be an international journalist. She was too coddled!

Oh pls. First day in college you didn’t call your parents or friends? Or first week, month, whatever?
Good for you. For many it’s a completely normal experience as for the first time in your life you’re outside parent supervision and given your first taste into adulthood. If your parents are close and you have a good relation and they got time, it’s not unreasonable to bond during college or reach out.
You’re basically calling out anything in where a person reaches out to their parents, doesn’t have it all handled, or whatever. This is literally just her first night. Look at Paris, how much she struggled.
The difference was is both characters choices. Paris with the help of Rory and Terrence balanced out mentally and emotionally more or less especially with the newspaper that she got kicked out of. Rory managed to triumph and lead it though and even brought Paris back.
The issue came at the end where Paris tried to balance Rory out on a career path in the last semester. Paris was motivated to get all of the best options available out there and backups to triumph getting a career out of college. She tried to do the same for Rory.
Rory though took the minimum path and took a low payed job that only lasts a few week or months with no follow up. Rory for some reason didn’t have the drive at the end to get busy and reach out to secure her career future. Along with the trust fund, support of rich family and friends, it makes sense why she wouldn’t be desperate. Paris family financially and from a reputation standpoint suffered. So she needed to triumph.
Rory on the underhand, never ultimately felt the need to push herself after it became clear she would graduate from Yale. That’s where she fell. Lack of ambition afterwards, a puff piece hurting her reputation, and lost care for her field or lower reputation offering jobs only contributed to where Rory ended up.
Perhaps ending up pregnant and with a plan to write a book can somehow push her to get her life in order and moving forward.

And Lorelei was a natural fit at Yale... much more so then Rory was.

My first weeks at uni was a nightmare and I started in 2020, year lockdown. Now in 2024 my mental health has hit breaking point that I have taken some time off to focus on my mental health and then next year start back up again.

@@rawyldGood for you for putting your health first! That’s a really hard thing to do, especially when you’re actively working to better your future in some way but ironically …that’s exactly what you’re doing. Having friends and family supporting you is absolutely wonderful, however, just remember you’re doing this for you. Don’t be too hard on yourself and ALLOW yourself to heal and flourish. Good luck to you!

I look forward to the inevitable Madeline and Louise retrospective and the debates as to whether or not we should ship Paris with Rory.
