4:00 - I cut 0.025" (0.635 mm) thick aluminum sheet metal for a different project, and I used both a jigsaw and metal-cutting shears. The metal shears were easier but bent the edge of the sheet metal up, and when I used the jigsaw, the sheet metal bounced up and down and all over the place even when tightly clamped. But you can sandwich it between cheap, leftover plywood and when I did that, it worked very well. It also helps to go very slowly with the jigsaw if you can't sandwich it.
I guess I should add that the reason it bounced around so much is because metal that thin is so flexible and when the jigsaw hits it, it drags it up and down. I know no one would ever use metal that thin for skates, but it helps to understand why the 2 mm was easier to work with.
I just made a set of Vans skates, bought the insoles already cut, the problem is they are too thick, my skates are painfully tight. Was wondering if I can use a thinner insole? Thanks for posting, Great channel, your very creative and beautiful!
@@miked9112 I've heard of insoles as thin as 1.5mm, and I'm guessing the ones you bought were 2mm. I think you could try but also be prepared for them to bend of break sooner.
I was going to mount sneakers on a plastic plate but realized that it needs a hard foundation. I like what you did but if the foot is raised up by 2mm or more then it will no longer fit comfortably. Have you considered mounting the plate on the bottom of the shoe or using other material? Pros vs. Cons ? Thanks, Mark
I have never done an outer sole but I know people do sometimes. I have a friend who did a wooden outer sole on Vans and after awhile it did start to come off. I don't know what kind of glue she used, maybe you could find a really super strong one. Also I know people sometimes will do an outer sole when they do soccer cleat builds. I never knew why they did it on the outside instead of inside but now that you mention it I bet it's bc soccer cleats are so small and snug they have no choice.
“compulsion of doing everything myself” omg I felt that hahahha. I’m binging your videos because I’ve been dreaming of making a sneaker build 😭 I don’t have all the tools rn tho but this is so great, just a whole day finishing a build from start to finish!! I’d feel so accomplished.
Hm. that's quite small. I'd hit up Etsy, there are some from Rollaboots and RollAround Skate Shop. It looks like they start at size 4 but maybe you can talk them into making an extra small one for you.
Nicely done. I have mounted some vans for people. I hate the ones where they glue the insoles into the shoe, you have to destroy them to get them out and then have no template to make alum insoles
That is common advice, but I've also heard that some people don't like it. If the size that you consider your size is very snug, I'd say yes, but but your usual Vans street show size is a little loose and roomy, then maybe not, since you actually do want skates to be pretty snug.

Where can I get these aluminum plates already made for a kid size 3 sneakers? My daughter really wants me to make a pair for her birthday?

I forgot about that! I did that one time and it was such a mess! It was from a set of Platform Vans.
Do you go up a half size when using the aluminum insole?

Hey there, nice tutorial for DIY aluminium insole..
Is A4size with the aluminium sheet ?
Thank you so much! I think you'll need to measure to your feet to be sure, but the sheets I used are approx 20cm x 30cm
