- Gulwali Passarlay, an Afghan political refugee, who left Afghanistan in 2006 due to the conflict and war, but more so because of lack of education, security and peace. At the moment he is studying for his BA politics and philosophy at the University of Manchester. After completing his studies, Gulwali hopes to return to his homeland and run for the presidency.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
Thank you very much indeed TEDxMCR for giving me such a wonderful opportunity to speak at the event. It was one of my proudest moment and I am glad to have had the chance to share my story. Of course it wasn't everything - certainly forgot or didn't had enough time to say what I do and which organisations and groups I am involved with to make a difference. Here is a list of my activism and commitment.
Kind Regards
Gulwali Passarlay

God bless you, Gulwali. I just finished reading your book. Incredible incredible story. I'm so glad you made it. All I could think the whole time was "what if his story were my story?"
Gulwali we all have the same story when we come to europe ,lol
Gulwali ......, wow, a great book, I do not even know myself my opinion regarding immigration, etc, But I see my 9 year old boy, who did not choose where he was born, thank God he was born free and happy, But to have to feel what your Mother must have felt, wow... such a decision, she made the correct decision, proud that my country made you part of it, Proud of what you did, the book opened my eyes. Well done kid. X
Just read your book! Amazing, incredible and inspirational story! Thank you
Gulwali is such an inspiration. I've just read his book which is will recommend to everyone to read his full story 'The Lightless Sky'
I just read the book THE LIGHTLESS SKY. One of the most important books I have read. Amazing, inspirational, but heartbreaking because it opens a window onto what refugees are facing when they seek asylum. Back then. And now. Thank you, Gulwali, for writing this book. Every American citizen should read it.
Love your passion. We need this passion!
Am reading his book The Lightless Sky now.Few more pages to finish reading.
The lightless sky reading it now, truely inspirational book
And the little shepherd will lead the way after he has seen everything bad, good and possible.
I pray to Allah swt that you never make it to that day that you run or become the president of Afghanistan or any other country for that matter!!!! Amen!!!!
