I totally agree with you. The ones who hide it are often called “high functioning” like me for example I have depression, complex ptsd and anxiety and I’m high functioning so people don’t take my pain and suffering as seriously which then causes more pain and suffering because people don’t believe me and don’t help me as much as they’d help someone else who isn’t as high functioning. That in itself is a stigma too. It’s awful. Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it. I feel seen and heard

He is a genuinely nice guy. About 7 or so years ago I was dating a young lady in Santa Monica, and as we walked towards a Starbucks Howie Mandel just walked out. Nobody at all with him. So, I told my date "Look, Howie is here" and I walked up to him and asked him if he would be so kind and take our picture with my cameraphone. And he did so, with a smile. Dispite his phobias. Really nice man!!!
Idk if Howie will read this but I have personal experience with OCD and I’m well aware of how it can rob one of their life. Thankfully and surprisingly TH-cam led to me to find out, you can recover from ocd and anxiety with ERP or ACT therapy. I know the way it debilitates someone like it sucks ass, theres no nice way to put it but I hope Howie feels better, he deserves it.

Yes!! I truly appreciate someone being open and honest about taking medication. And I believe Kelly kind of admitted there she is too and I believe I've heard that before. But taking this stigma off of needing medication is really important especially right now because even people who are getting by prior to the world falling apart are struggling now even more.
Would be good if people also knew how to respond if it is normalized because Kelly kept telling him he doesn’t have those things. This is partly why I’m not open about it. A medical professional and myself agree that I’m “different” but everybody else seems to know better

Eta... to the dozens and dozens of comments who are concerned for him I don't know what rock you have been living under for the last several decades but this is something that he has been open and honest about since I was a child and I'm 44. Even when the stigma was so deep for men especially he was still brutally honest about what he was going through. And throughout the years he has used humor to cope. As does Kelly. I do the same if you can't laugh then all you do is end up crying. I love that how Howie has always been so open about his struggles. I'm not far behind him probably worse actually. I completely understand being absolutely petrified when you're in public I have agoraphobia on top of her whole alphabet of stuff. But People like Us Kelly included from what she said learn to mask really well. While you're falling apart inside. I love that she's not making fun of him at all she's understanding and yet puts a light spin on it, not downplaying it whatsoever but you know talking about never knowing what is going on inside of someone's head is so so true. But only Kelly could press her boobs against Howie Mandel's back.
Love how honest and real Howie and Kelly are, and also their great senses of humour and unique original personalities. I have dealt with OCD since I was a teenager, nearly destroyed me. Howie and his book helped me and my mom understand what it is. He is an amazing teacher and healer through his own life journey and experience. I deal with other mental health stuff as well, never feel ashamed or guilty of it. I am happily medicated as well. Have a huge crush on Howie as well, so handsome, cute, kind, generous and sweet. Kelly Clarkson _____________ the only host on the planet that refuses to let people get to the point and finish any sentences. Unbelievable man. Somethings never change.
Its a good thing that he is open about his struggles. I remember hearing about him I believe on Howard as a kid talking about being ocd and germ phobia...
Yep, I'm another one who wears the "comedy mask" in public, to hide the "tragedy mask" underneath! Have dealt with "mental issues" before it was "acceptable"! It really helps me to see celebrities speak out about their problems. P.S. I saw Howie years ago, at the Barney's store in Beverly Hills. He was purchasing a designer handbag. Almost didn't recognize him, due to his shaved head. Always saw him on t.v., with his big curly hair! 🤔
Kelly can’t understand *high functioning* 😂 Childhood trauma leads to OCD and neuroticism. It’s probably way more common than they both realize. Same for anxiety, depression, ADHD, etc. 💕💕💕 Many people are charismatic and high functioning, while feeling like and experiencing what he described. This can even be caused by “complex” trauma, which leads to cPTSD like living in a chaotic household with lots of yelling and or fighting, an abusive older sibling, parents who aren’t around much or don’t attune to the child’s emotional needs, etc. Also if either of the primary caregivers suffer from any type of trauma symptoms / mental health issues themselves. The child absorbs this and learns their frame of seeing the world. How to feel, think and operate. OCD comes from fear and anxiety, which means the early childhood environment felt unsafe and unpredictable to the child. OCD is a form of trying to quell underlaying fear and anxiety and intrusive negative thoughts by controlling (or trying to control) the external environment. The subconscious mind is constantly on high alert and trying to feel safe. Children who weren’t parented in a safe, secure, acknowledged, loved and healthy way internalize this and make it mean that there is something wrong with themselves. That they are somehow unlovable, inadequate, or some other form of flawed/not good enough. This couldn’t be further from the truth. The truth is that they didn’t have healthy adults showing up for them in a way that reflected their inherent value/worth, so they could develop a positive sense of self and self-identity.
If it was only this easily explained. Sometimes it is a chemical imbalance in the brain. Also hereditary. If you are living with OCD good chance a parent or grandparent…has lived a similar challenge.
I used to spend 3 hours every night circling my house checking every window and every door ...3 hours. With a lot of medication and therapy I was able to stop that. However the OCD just jumped somewhere else for many years it was my health. Which then jumped to something else and ironically my health has fallen to poop thank goodness I don't have the neurosis about that anymore because I'd have a heart attack everyday. But gosh is OCD completely draining it rules you.
When you're famous and have mental health issues everyone wants to talk to you, when your an ordinary person and are in perfect mental health everyone avoids talking to you.

Kelly could have handled this a bit better but it seems like she genuinely didn't understand the situation and had good intentions so I'm not upset at her
I'm not sure if you're aware or not about this but this is the subject that he has spoken openly about for decades I remember being little watching him on a game show and refusing to hug or touch anyone. At the time people thought he was weird. Now that we speak more openly there's an understanding of what he deals with. And it's kind of hypocritical to worry about what's going on in his mind and not Kelly's. She is also on medication she kind of made it light of a joke here, but she's talked about it before. She's dealt with depression and anxiety. So again you don't know what someone is going through privately she puts on a happy bubbly face and is genuinely that person but that doesn't mean she doesn't struggle. It's very presumptuous to assume that she's perfectly fine
I’ve been a fan of Howie Mandel since he was on St Elsewhere. Some of you will have to look that up. 😉 Sounds like he has a lot of the same issues I have. I totally get it.
I like this man very much and it is sad that he still suffers from his condition. I've worked a lot with OCD and found that it is almost always, if not curable, greatly reduced, without medication. Evidently he has had some very poor professional treatment.
I can't keep reading these but I'll comment this for the last time that is how he has coped with it for decades is using humor. I mean he's a flipping comedian. She reacted in the manner that he copes best in which is not forcing him in the spotlight having to answer questions that he's not comfortable with. It also means not taking things too seriously yes they're important subjects and yes it's wonderful that he talks about them but a lot of us use humor to cope. Not only do I have a list of mental illnesses a page long but in the last year I've gotten some pretty horrible health news on many fronts. If it wasn't for using humor I would completely lose it. You can't live in a world submerged in to the heartache and pain. Sometimes you come up for air and get make other people feel normal.
Why would you be worried? He's literally been this way for decades. As long as I can remember of him being out what is at least three decades in the public eye he has always been brutally honest about his issues even when the stigma was horrific. I don't think there's a reason to worry now. He seems to have his medications in balance and he's surviving and that's all of us with mental health issues expect out of life sometimes.
Kelly had me at 'breasts'. Ah, who am I kidding, she already had me. Love her! I did find the interplay fascinating. While he did open up, he also got a bit defensive when she would suggest something that made what he was 'owning' into something not quite as dire or insurmountable as he was making it out. As if, "No, really, I am a mess." And then use comedy as a shield. "Are you inviting me to your house?" And the taping ahead of time, and saying 'Hi' to himself. Those took the focus right off of what they were 'debating' about his health. He pretty much ended it there, and she let him. A lot in that interview got spoken, in between, in the unspoken cracks.
I thought she gave him plenty of room to talk. He's not typically one in interviews who gets very open and honest he tends to be pretty uptight because well mentally he's trying to survive. I think that her joking and laughing with him while they discussed a serious manner that we all know that he has had forever. It made it easier for him to open up. Well obviously struggling he seemed to be fairly comfortable. I love that he brought up medication and that she agreed. Which she has also been open about. Even if it's done in a laughing manner to a certain extent it's meant to take the edge off the stigma and say yeah me too.
@@jenniwilliams3295 Oh, absolutely, she's a great interviewer. I was just noticing how she was doing her 'silver lining' thing, which is how she deals with adversity, and was through that approach illustrating for him the idea of hope. He may have taken that as minimizing his issues, to some extent, but rather than go too far in debating it, eventually cut it off with a couple of laughs. People have ways they deal with stuff, and not to invalidate either approach, I like both entertainers. It's just interesting to me to see not only the spoken parts of a conversation, but also the interstices.
Wonderful to hear Howie Mandel!! I Understand Kelly is a talker but she is too interruptive.. you got to give people an opportunity to tell their story...seeing that you asked
How's that going for you? Not all of us believe in your sky friend. And since he's never brought that up in the decades that he has been famous I don't think that that's his coping mechanism. And to be honest leaning on a imaginary person is not healthy but hey if it gets you through go for it.
There are a whole lot of us that are getting through life, with all its ups and downs, without talking to ourselves and thinking some pretend dude is going to hear what we say and send us some magical solutions.
@@jenniwilliams3295 Well just because you don't believe in a sky friend doesn't make God less of a Provider for His Creation now does it. God is faithful to the heathens as well as the faithful. You will soon find out Who He is ! It won't end well for you. I suggest you seek your Maker while you still have time. Start with the study of the Numerics of the numbers 37 and 73 in the Bible and I suggest you HURRY !
To the people who are truly effected by their fears it almost feels like Howie is mocking them. I know this might piss off a lot of people but Howie has so much available to him that the average person doesn't. Saying when he goes home ending up in the fetal position? Anyone here actually believe that?
I like her and she is a sweetheart but can Kelly please stop talking from time to time and let the guest speak without constantly interrupting them? Again, I know she means well but that's one constructive criticism I'd express.
Kelly needs to listen & stop pretending to be the same... he repeatedly tries to get her to listen ..and she repeatedly tries to insist he is 'normal' ....car crash interview
This is something that he has been dealing with for literally decades I'm 44 and I remember being a young teenager when he started talking about this. Back then it was a massive stigma. But for me suffering the same things in an area where there was no mental health care it made me feel that I wasn't the only one. So this is absolutely nothing new it's not the first time he's talked about it it's probably the thousandth. He will keep going through life masking as much as he can and going through therapy and medication just to survive. And again he is definitely not alone and neither am I.
@@jenniwilliams3295 I heard him talk about it before too, I just hope he’s getting all the help for it because when people laugh about it , It means they’re deeply struggling and we hope we never hear bad news one morning :( mental illness is the worst, It’s chronic and debilitating and I’ve experienced some of it myself ..
This is a SHOCKER! I would never have known Howie's world was a nightmare, you just never know how a person's personal life is. He said that he was heavily medicated. That's scary 😨.
Where on this planet have you been for the last three decades? This is not the first or even the thousandth time that he has talked about these issues and his medications and masking and the difficulty of life. He's literally been open and honest about these issues as long as I can remember. Because I was diagnosed as a kid and remember seeing him talk about it and thinking oh my God I'm not completely alone. So this is nothing new they were able to joke about it because they both have dealt with similar issues and a lot of people use humor to cope I'm not sure why that is a surprise to anyone. And there are a lot of us walking around heavily medicated. You wouldn't know a dang thing he's perfectly fine this is probably the happiest I've ever seen him.
Honestly, how refreshing is he for being so honest??! I love that and truly wish him the best! From one mess to another! 😁

Everybody is different and you don’t get to evaluate his treat, eat as poor because he takes medication.
He’s not suffering - he’s living
Hearing Howie very confidently say that he is not smart is pretty heartbreaking.
Kelly needs to let him talk and not make a joke out of it
I can't keep reading these but I'll comment this for the last time that is how he has coped with it for decades is using humor.
Ok
I’m worried about Howie ❤️
Why would you be worried? He's literally been this way for decades. As long as I can remember of him being out what is at least three decades in the public eye he has always been brutally honest about his issues even when the stigma was horrific. I don't think there's a reason to worry now. He seems to have his medications in balance and he's surviving and that's all of us with mental health issues expect out of life sometimes.
I’m disappointed he’s no longer hosting DOND. I applied to that show in 2008, I had a dream of being on that show. My dream never came true.
I'm a mess too!😃 My people...
How about his TikTok prolapse? We will never forget
That was fun
No that is NOT how we get through LIFE Howie.
We pray and read the scriptures to get through LIFE !
@@susannovak8263 WAKE UP suzie. You are living in a dream world and you are about to find out ! You are blind as a bat.
To the people who are truly effected by their fears it almost feels like Howie is mocking them. I know this might piss off a lot of people but Howie has so much available to him that the average person doesn't. Saying when he goes home ending up in the fetal position? Anyone here actually believe that?
❤❤❤

ASK THEM KELLY
I DARE YOU!!
THEY'VE ALL BEEN CAUGHT!!
Aren't we all a mess?
No!
But some people are more a mess than others! Depression is a serious issue. It's complicated. Things are messy. Normalcy feels nonexistent.
Good interview with them both interrupting each other all the time 😳
Two people with ADHD. To both use humor to cope with life and mental illness...both of them.
I like her and she is a sweetheart but can Kelly please stop talking from time to time and let the guest speak without constantly interrupting them? Again, I know she means well but that's one constructive criticism I'd express.
Introverts - I get it!
Love his clothes
I didn’t know this
Kelly needs to listen & stop pretending to be the same... he repeatedly tries to get her to listen ..and she repeatedly tries to insist he is 'normal' ....car crash interview
Bullshit The Game Show is excellent!!! I hope Netflix will do more.
I hope he’s gonna b ok
He has been very open and honest about it for years! It has never been a secret.
@@jenniwilliams3295 ok! thank you for sharing his story and yours, appreciate 🙏🏻 ❤️
I am girl Howie..love HM
