      I have the coolest grandfather ever. He is a landlord with crap tenants, but he always does caraway stuff for me and my sister. He bought both of us amazing bikes and takes us for rides all the time. He helped me win my schools paper airplane contest, my longest flight was 50 yards (we went to a huge empty parking lot with a fast wind). My dad (car lover) is trying to convince my mom to trade in her Toyota Highlander for a used Maserati. My grandfather said “life is short, you might as well enjoy it” when I told him. My dad owns a Porsche 911, a Ford F-150 king ranch, and a Porsche Panamera turbo s, and he is a race car driver (not his main job).

      unfortunately the more numerous stories of pastors being good people just don't get as much attention as the other stories with more drama; since a pastor visiting the sick is nothing new or spectacular it doesn't get the attention it deserve, even though it can mean a lot to someone who is sick and their family.

      While that must suck, they did get put up in hotels, and if I remember correctly, part of the law is that the victim gets to choose the hotel, so its usually a pretty nice one, all on the perpetrators dime. Great considering the entry plus parking fee was only 25 dollars. Plus, if their car was in need of any repairs, most mechanics in situations like this LOVE to say that its possible the damage was due to the event, even if it's unlikely, resulting in getting repairs done on the scammers dime as well. Depending on the situation, sometimes the scammer also has to pay for transportation if the person needs to go somewhere, which usually results in a fancy rented car or, possibly even airplane tickets if it falls under a number of being "far away enough", which especially helps since there are some car rental places that don't allow the cars to go out of state (though its not very common). Not sure if you can request a first class ticket, but last minute tickets are definitely more expensive, and there tends to be more free seats in first class, and airlines are known to upgrade someone to first class if the plane is too full.
      I think the main grief the victims would deal with is upset children, to be honest.

  • @Ragehunger

    The fascinating thing with criminals is that they're so overconfident in their ways that they will repeat them as many times as they like, making them almost too predictable.
    If they've once managed to reap the fruits of their actions, they'll just keep coming back for more, one way or another.

    • @Bethy-Bee
      @Bethy-Bee 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      modus operandi

    • @Alex-sv7vt
      @Alex-sv7vt ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's kind of important, to be honest. If you're going to pull that kind of scam off, I imagine being confident is crucial. If you act shady or uncertain, the people you're bringing to the event might think it's a scam and get suspicious. Acting like you're super confident and everything's great, nothing wrong here, is crucial in convincing other people it's legit.
      People get nervous when "leadership" looks nervous, but if the people in charge sound like they know what they're doing, we don't question it.

      @@webe3228 We don't have debtor's prisons in America anymore so you can't be threatened with imprisonment. However, the debtor's assets can be seized by the County Sheriff's office on behalf of the debtee and sold at an auction to get the money and the debtor's income could have a lien applied by order of the Court on behalf of the debtee.
      Even with all that, the debtee has to pay the court costs for the lien and the Sheriff's department get a portion of the auction proceeds as payment for doing this "service" and even with all this, if the grifter was smart enough, there's no guarantee of getting the full financial judgment paid out. They could make sure they have nothing in their name to be seized and, as they mentioned in the ad for the meteor shower, they usually work in cash only so there's no money trail.
      If it's proven anything they have, even if it's not in their name, is proceeds from illegal activity, they could be seized by the government upon conviction of the crimes with Criminal Asset Forfeiture but there's no guarantee the assets, when auctioned off would be enough to cover all debts.
      Hope that helps.

      Try and put yourself into the mind of a scammer, looking for victims.
      If you wanted to find a ready group of people, with a reputation for being generous, kind and above all, *_gullible,_* where would be the best place to start looking?
      Many religious groups come preconditioned to hand over regular quantities of cash without questions being asked - they're like a scammer's wet dream!
      The only problem I can foresee is the competition - might be tricky to get hands on all the cash before someone else swindles it out of them.
