I started watching your channel around the beginning of Kansas and have binged watched the rest. I am from Kansas and the fact that you were able to go across western Kansas in the summer is absolutely amazing. I don’t even visit there in the summer. What is more amazing is that you got your girlfriend to do it. That is beyond belief!! Hang on to that girl, she is a keeper!
I’m sorry about everything that has happened. I hope you are feeling much better since you started back hiking. Good luck Matt! Take care and stay safe.
Glad to see another video. I have a runny nose the last couple days. I contribute it to the corn harvest surrounding my house. Bad thing is I saw my elderly mom yesterday and I hope I didn't pass anything to her. I don't feel weak like you do though. I saw my first pan handler at the intersection of 24 highway and interstate 25 in Colorado Springs 25 years ago. Now, I've seen them regularly in Wichita on major thoroughfare daily. Hope you feel better to continue in a day or two. Take it easy and you'll pull through. Rooting for you.
Wow! Appreciate you filming your health situation day by day. Hopefully it’s just a weird virus and you will continue to get back to normal! Wishing you the best, Matt! Forever onward young man! 👍🥾🏔️👍
At 10:32…that’s some fantastic engineering by nature’s best engineers 🦫 So sorry about the delay, but you’ve hiked more than the length of the AT without this much of a setback. That’s not too shabby!
Get well Matt. I enjoy your videos and I like to watch them in the morning getting ready. Living in the Ozarks I was hoping your path would take you through some more interesting parts of Missouri. While hiking out West is more interesting to you the hiker, I thought your walks through small towns and cities, hearing your thoughts and commentary is interesting to the viewer.
Good video. The bridge at 9:22 should not have a rotted deck already unless the wood wasn't treated properly. Sorry that you're having so much health problems. A lot of people seem to be coming down with a new version of the virus. It knocked the heck out of my neighbor several months ago and he still hasn't recovered. Heal fast. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick
Day 137 watch. After taking a week off from TH-cam. Great to see you hiking the trails I ride. Also funny to think I was DM’ing you while you were stuck in the hotel down the street from me.
Good to you see you again & that you're feeling better than a few days ago. If anything else you are experiencing extreme exhaustion, you've been hiking since the east coast, that's a metric ton of holy sh*t on your body & feet. It'll cause you to feel sick, tired, stomach aches & loss of appetite. For now, take your time when you can and rest when you need too. Stay safe out there & keep the amazing videos coming! Fron Lawrence, KS we're cheering you on!!
Sorry that happened Matt.. I was having some chest pressure myself last week. Pneumonia/covid is making the rounds down here in Houston. Back to school time i guess.. Thanks for the updates ❤
So sorry to see you having to endure another setback. But you are extremely resilient and have so much hiking experience that I am confident you will finish this year as long as the weather cooperates. So true - safety over comfort -Geo
I’m just struck by how hard an illness hits the body where it is impossible for even someone so strong in body and will as you to push through. Injuries, sometimes it’s possible. I had Covid for the first time this month and I was flat on my back for several days even with Paxlovid. So happy to see you get healthy enough to try back out on the trail by the end of the video.
There’s a certain point things get to where you just have to hole up and recover. When I had Covid in 2022 near Winter Park for example. Really sucks and impacts plans but there isn’t a lot you can do
Glad you are on the upswing! Sorry about the time loss. But that's the conundrum isn't it. Do one push hard because you KNOW things will go South at some point and you'll need time off or does one back off a bit and hopefully avoid "going South"? Bueno suerte!
14:55 - Either you're time traveling, I've hit my head really hard and have amnesia, or you accidentally wrote the wrong day. I had to look a few times but the current time on my computer says just after 8am Thursday, August 29th. In CO it would be 6am. But I'm not counting out the possibility of time travel. On a more important note, I'm glad you're feeling better!
Glad to see that you're feeling better. With regard to the sleeping pad situation, would it make sense to use BOTH a foam pad and an inflatable? The foam pad can help protect the inflatable from punctures, and probably won't add too much weight or volume to your kit.
That is a lot of extra bulk I honestly really don’t need. Once I start doing this regularly I got used to just the foam pad. Also blowing up the air mattress day after day really wore on me.
Fingers crossed that you're able to continue! Glad you took the time to rest up and recuperate. Is that your parents' vehicle you were sitting in with the groceries? What kind is it? Looks like an adventure-mobile!
That is my bright green jeep. One of the last vestiges of my employed and flushed with money days. My parents let me leave it at their place during the summer while I’m hiking.
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes cool! I dabble in "SUV RVing" and always like to see how people set up their vehicles. It's how I toured the country with my dog a few years ago.
Well hopefully your foot issues were able to heal while you were sick. Looks like weather forecast out west is much above average temp thru November and average to slightly below precip.
I saw that. That does sound promising though I have to be realistic about my chances considering this delay and the fact that it’s probably going to be a bit slowing going at least for the mountain crossing. Here’s hoping though
Hey you got to drive your pretty Jeep lol..do you think you'll ever have sponsors to help with $ for videos? I mean we're all glad there's no commercials but...anyway glad you are back at it and healthier!
Honestly I doubt it. We get a little money from ads and patreon and that’s sustainable. Having to do a 30 second sponsor section in each days video would be a bloody nightmare even if ads didn’t make me gag
Beginning to think you must've done something in your past life to tick Colorado off! That orrr maybe you've been walking nearly every day since March - bumps and bugs are bound to happen. To good health and good trails in your future.
I've seen a lot of people up in Washington with covid that aren't testing positive on the standard tests but are testing positive with the throat tests🤔
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes There may be some advantages in simplicity if you're just following the Continental Divide or the Pacific Crest. Sometimes the ADT feels like a running trail or a bike trail, and other times it is legitimately on trail in the wilderness. I'll admit after watching 140 of these videos, I'm less skeptical than I used to be, but it still seems like such a length commitment that I'd have a hard time not making up my own alts along the way. I met Dave Whitson (@davexusa) this summer where his route crossed the CDT -- he followed the ADT until turning off onto the Oregon Trail corridor in the interest of keeping up high mileages and a less wilderness-oriented route through the rockies. I'm impressed with the commitment to following the corridor, but sometimes the ADT corridor feels like the whims of whatever handful of people worked on the route, not really the same as redlining the AT/PCT. No judgement on you, it's just the route choices of the red line.

Well, it seems when you got into the mountains. Things have gotten a little tougher for you, but you’ve been through this before my friend lick your wounds and move on. I wish you well.
Rooting for you to finish this year. Take care of yourself. The hard stuff is just ahead. Keep at it. The transient issue is untenable out here in the West. I have lived in a couple of different western states and the one common denominator is legal Marijuana. States where it is now legal have transient problems. I recently moved to New Mexico. No transient problem when I arrived. Legalized Marijuana and now there's a problem. Even people with signs begging for donations. Not of money or food. "Need Weed". Saw the same thing happen as Oregon decriminalized Marijuana and then legalized it.

a good chunk of rampart range is closed due to the 2012 fire, Waldo Canyon, which left significant damage to the trails up there

There are such weird route choices through here, it seems like there's tons of public land around. Why avoid the mountains?
I think it varies. The stated goal of the trail was to connect people hence routing through certain cities when there are options to go around.
