If you're interested in the subject of Irish Linen production, the most recent episode of the Haptic and Hue podcast (audio podcast about textiles, mostly Britain-centric) is about various people trying to bring about a linen resurgence in Ireland.
Marvelous ! Deeply appreciate this interview! Fascinating history! Deepened my appreciation for Ireland.. and all the precious “ makers”! Artists indeed!
Thank you both for this. Wonderful discussion. Vawn is so knowledgeable. Really impressive. I could have gone on listening. I hope she has more books up her sleeve. Thanks again.
I truly loved listening as I knitted this morning. Both of you have such a deep level of knowledge and it's very fascinating to me as an English woman with Irish heritage.
I have two treasured sweaters. One is a V-neck men's pullover that is handknitted and bought at a thrift store in the 1960s in the US. Another was bought at a thrift in the last three or four years. I would call it an Aran sweater, but the tag reads handknitted in Scotland. Thank you very interesting.
Loved this, I can recommend the Linen Museum in Lisburn as a great way to understand the process. My Irish grandmother knitted, sewed patchwork, crocheted and did embroidery.
Vawn’s explanations of the Aran motifs have provided me with more appreciation and understanding of how you translate them into your designs. I’ll knit them with much love now.
Only just catching up with this episode. Absolutely loved listening to Vawn. So interesting and informative. As a Scot I could relate to quite a few similarities in our histories. I also wonder if the confusion with Aran knitting being from Scotland is because there is the Isle of Arran in Scotland? Off to check out the Celtic knitting Club podcasts😀. Thank you for taking the time to put together such interesting videos 🙏🏼
Excellent session, so informative. I really enjoyed learning the history of knitting in Ireland and the politics. I have shared it. Btw Carol, what sweater pattern are you wearing? Love it.
Thank you so much for sharing, I'm wearing my new Chroi Cardigan in this video, you can take a closer look at it here: stolenstitches.com/products/chroi-cardigan-pattern. I'll be hosting a knit-through in December with this pattern live here on TH-cam.
