I like it when the lightning bugs come out. It seems like lightning bugs are getting fewer and fewer. I only see the lightning bugs like 2 weeks out of the year, but its pretty when they do.
The one year I had a lawn fertilizer service, they wiped out all the lightning bugs with the combo fertilizer/pesticide they use. It took about 6 years of no lawn pesticides before I got the lightning bugs back.
I saw an entire field in Pennsylvania lit up all the way to the wood line. It was a slight hill and about 3 to 4 football fields across covered with lightning bugs about 10 years ago and it was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
They are everywhere here in eastern Alabama. Spent hours listening to them today deep in the woods. The sound is amazing. Love it! Once in a lifetime event I guess.

My husband and i are hearing buzzing chainsaw like cicadas sound like, which is normal. But we are having a whirring sound that does NOT sound like a cicada at all. it sounds like a CERN. or a loud spinning whirling noise that is so so loud that it’s annoying unlike the cicada sound.
