We had our part of Brood X three (years ago).I love them! They only hurt a few tree branches and provide an endless source of protein to animals and birds. Thedead carcasses also fertilize the ground! It DOES get LOUD!

And they emerge basically to mate. Would the cicadas of different broods select for mates of the same broods, or would they be non-discriminatory and mate with ANY cicadas? If they are brood-discriminatory, how would they identify same-brood mates? If they don't discriminate what will their offsprings be? 13 or 17 year broods? Or will there be a NEW brood (say, 15 -year brood)? And would there be a joke in there somewhere?

Summer of 2021 was traumatic lol (I’m terrified of bugs and yes I know I’m a little b*tch)… I was at the gas station ducking cicadas just tryna fuel up so I could make it home when I heard a lady say “there’s one on you!”… I look up and everyone is staring at me and someone else says “it’s on the back of your shirt” and I just start screaming and running in circles… then as I’m running another one smacks right into my face… then a man maybe in his 40s-50s with caring father energy ran over, wiped all the cicada parts and juices off of me, then brought me back to the safety of my car and said “stay here ok?”. Then he finished filling up my car with gas lol. A HERO😅.
