I have 8 580’s and vac 700’s and come to realize replacing caps and some parts is all part of maintenance. I write with mine everyday. Replacement parts are very nominal and easy to fix. In comparison, I’ve sent in my pilot 823 few times to get it serviced.
This is easy to fix if you get a new barrel. You will have to take out the entire piston mechanism using the wrench TWSBI provides. It's a little tricky to get the piston mechanism back in correctly, so you may want to watch some videos first. (Goulet Pens has a good one. It's for the 580 but the concept is the same.) Remove the nib and feed and insert them into the new barrel. Just be careful not to crush the fins on the feed because they are fragile -- I hold the nib and feed by the side as much as possible to pull them out. You will be able to get them into the right spot on the new barrel easily. While you have the pen disassembled, put a little silicone grease on the edges of the piston head for maintenance. Honestly, this is an easy problem to fix. If you are not sure about doing this, maybe a pen club member can help you?
Unfortunately, TWSBI has been known to crack in that section. TWSBI usually sends a replacement piece with a charge only for shipping. If the shipping is too costly for your location, you may want to purchase another TWSBI, disassemble both pens and trade the body part. Good luck!
TWSBI do have wonderful service when bits do break. But they need a good engineer who knows something about making pens that are both strong and transparent. Personally, I'm a bit of a larrikin and would really love a bright Red ABS TWSBI with nice thick sections ... weight be damned. Oh, yes & one of those wonderful "M" Bock nibs.
I second the others saying just to get a replacement barrel from them However, I’m not sure it’s really necessary to remove the feed every single time you clean it. Only remove it when absolutely necessary. It’s possible that this contributes to the cracking issue. The 580’s are designed to be removed easily. The Eco’s are not.
ok i think ill take your advise. i just feel it will make the cleaning more faster lol guilty😅 and perhaps cleaning with ultrasonic also weakens the plastic?😢
@@corysoxydiaries it’s a possibility too. I wish there was some more information on this issue. Someone needs to survey a large group of twsbi owners and see those that had issues if they either used ultrasonic cleaners or took the feed out a lot. Pilot has had the same issue with their Heritage 92 model, it is a piston filled with a clear section too. However, they explicitly tell people to not remove the feed at all. Suggests to me they think it’s a possible cause. Twsbi by now should know the cause. I wish they would just tell us if it’s something we do so we know to avoid or not. Hopefully they get the replacement out to you. Swapping the parts over should be really easy for you. I’ve switched to the 580’s for the section that easily unscrews. I figure if I have an issue then the repairs will be even easier.
if all else fails, get a TWSBI Eco demonstrator, and swap out the nib , piston and cap, so you just use the barrel from the demonstrator and all other parts from your limited edition pen.
This is a commin problem and easily fixed. You can replace the entire barrel, as it appears that none of the unique Golden Horse pieces are in the barrel. You will need to remove the entire filling mechanism using the wrench TWSBI provides. It's a little tricky to get the mechanism into the new barrel exactly right, so you may want to watch a few videos first. (Goulet Pens has a good video. It's for the 580, but the concept is the same.) You can also just pull out the nib and feed and move them to the new barrel. Just be careful to hold it by the sides so you don't crush the fins on the feed. They are fragile. This is an easy problem to fix, to be honest. If TWSBI can't ship you a new barrel, but a regular ECO and use the barrel from that.
Oops, sorry. I thought my first comment got lost, so I typed it over again using slightly different language. I'll leave both here since they are different and I forgot to mention greasing the piston head the first time. 😊
thanks for this detailed info really appreciate it🙏 i am not really a pro when it comes to fixing pens this will really help me and of course youtube academy too😂 thanks again!❤
Great pens! Wonderful Writers. It's hard to find really strong clear materials. I love my TWSBI 580 Diamond but I do treat it delicately. If I have to treat a pen toughly, I use a Safari or especially a Lamy 2000. They may or may not be as good but they won't break ..... or even that damned expensive Pelikan. Once it has a scratch, I'll feel better about using it. When I had a problem, I emailed TWSBI a picture and they replaced parts at no charge. Brilliant service as it was well out of guarantee. Of course, being a lover of the pen and saying so loudly probably helped. Making pens transparent AND strong may be a contradiction. The cockpit of an F-22 Raptor is clear Lexan, the same material as in in an L2K where the material uses the name Makrolon. Keeping the price reasonable determines a lesser material.
wow okay i guess i have to treat my twsbis carefully next time.sometimes i think they are just my normal pens(ballpoint) whenever they are being used or in my desk. but thanks for all the info you shared, good to know as a fp collector!grateful for this community❤
I love everything else about TWSBI except this persistent, known, disastrous issue. I have no idea why they have refused to do anything about this for YEARS. Mine cracked in half like 7 years ago. To their credit, if you contact them, they will send you a new one or at least a replacement part.
To people said to purchase a new barrel I second that, just reach out to them and they would just have you pay for shipping and you can just take it apart with the included wrench and put it back together. Besides watching a number of youtube videos you can also just take it apart and slowly put it back together. Yes it is a bit fiddly when getting that piston part to extend enough, but it should take 15-30 mins tops for people that have not tinkered with this pen before. I tinker alot and can do this in less than 5 mins, so I believe that you can do this as well.
Twsbi have an amazing customer service if you contact them they will send you a replacement part. I had the same problem and they sent a replacement barrel.
ok thats good news! glad i posted this video and hearing from you guys really makes me happy knowing im getting a solution and its not the end of the world hahaha😂
I got two replacement feeds and two barrels (pen bodies) about a month ago. I had my white and rose gold crack and swapped it all out. LA office. They take PayPal only though.
@@corysoxydiaries they can take a while. One time, I had to message them twice. I always break my feeds but the last time I replaced a feed is when I noticed cracks in the grip section 😭 TWSBI knows their reputation so they are accommodating with replacement parts.
there's a twsbi limited edition i've had my eye on, but the limited edition are twice the price of the normal ones, and yet i keep hearing time and time again that they're breaking, so I just can't justify it :(
You want a simple answer? Don't buy Twisbi anymore, it's crap, their transparent plastic cracks ALL the time. Turn instead to Nahvalur (formerly Narwhal), they're much better quality for the same price, and don't have any pathetic business practices.
hahaha thanks for the simple answer😂 i do have a narwhal and yes theyre pretty similar piston fillers. they even have a copyright issues and narwhal aplogizes to twsbi sometime ago but yea material wise maybe narwhal is better😅
@@corysoxydiaries Yes, but in a way, you could say that Twisbi was also inspired by all the other brands that have been making pistons since the dawn of time... ;)

That sucks and I hope they have responded by now.
hi, sorry for the late reply. yes, they did replace it, surprisingly it came in less than 2 weeks!
I avoided twsibi to save myself heartbreak.

yeay thanks for the words of encouragement, i guess its just me myself and i to assemble it when and if i get a new barrel.❤

warm water expands the metal and pushes against a weak plastic. sorry. they need to change their sections to a softer plastic.
oh no…maybe cleaning it with my ultrasonic weakens the plastic more?😮
@@corysoxydiaries actually an ultrasonic cleaner could cause cracks. ultrasonic cleaners were made for only metals that were not weak.
There is nothing to do about it. You can only buy a super cheap version of any eco and take the body of this.
thanks for the suggestion❤
