That is true, I felt that too a bit. Why can't Xena and Gabrielle kiss in the show (more than what happened I mean) but when Xenas soul is suddenly in a mans body, that it's oke.. That is mostly due to certain critics I assume. How they made this episode in turn shows that you fall in love with someone as a person/their soul, not their body. and that is a wonderful lesson and I agree with thet :) It's just so much more deeper and not superficial that way. Overall, great work Renee for directing your first episode! :D

If you think otherwise you were watching the wrong series or did not pay attention to the show. The fans of the official couple Xena / Gabrielle are more and we keep remembering and following Lucy and Reneé with affection.
kyohime29 ares sacrifices a lot for xena, gave up his god power for her, he doesn’t know how to love in a normal way because he represents the opposite of love he’s the god of war not a normal man. But xena was such a special mortal that she changed him, and their chemistry is off the charts. I didn’t see anything steamy between xena and Gabrielle I never saw them as a couple at all just me though
Xena loved Marcus and Borias and Hercules, she’s not pressured by society to pretend to be straight so I don’t see how people thought she was with Gabrielle in a romantic way
