      Exactly! I bought an ex track 2007 R1 with 22000 miles on it, the thing looked mint except for the safety wires and fairings. The maintenance was fully recorded, and all it needed was new tires which came with the bike, and valve clearance needed to be checked. Not a bad bike for $4500

      @AaronDuhsaka หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      to my experience: Yes, since it is a track bike people will literally search whether it has any flaws and fix them rihht away... as it is a track oriented bike, it requires maximum maintenance and every nook and corner is looked upon

      Well, to say so in this case would be a bit of a stretch. I'd be curious to see how the oil situation is, as well as what you can see when you take the spark plugs out. Most of what he covered was cosmetic with the exception of the quick shifter not working as well as the throttle issue.

      Also, if the bike was maintained by Ricky Morias, The father of Sheridan Morias, who races in WSBK, EWC, multiple superbike winner, and if you never seen Ricky ride, it's something to, even with his foot in a moon boot, he still rides a bike dam good. Keep that Bitubo suspension as is, only take the bike to Ricky to have it setup properly. Remove the race pads, its probably EBC or SBS pads. Do some research on that HM Quick shifter, you are missing something. If it worked before, maybe you are not doing something correctly. Ricky can help you with that as well. When you are done there, take it to Martin Blake, Blake IND next door and put it on the dyno. He will be able to tell you what has been done to the ECU, he is also very knowledgeable on bikes. Those two gentleman know much more than any of these street squids do. Ricky has built R1 motors for Shez for Nationals as well as a lot of other guys in SA. Whatever he tells you about the R1, you can believe him.

      @DarkHorse08 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@845racingworks Yep. Those race pads need heat to bite. If you’re riding on the street only, get some proper pads for the street. And the oil sample video is a great idea. You’ll receive a sheet which all the details of your oil and engine health.

    If you end up doing electrical work, do yourself a favor and use a soldering iron with heat shrink. Also, search up a "union splice", it will be your best option for connecting wires together and will make a strong mechanical connection. I am an aircraft mechanic and I restore bikes on the side. Great to see you chasing your dream bike. You will know more about the bike and have a deeper appreciation for it once you have completed your restoration. Cheers

    I think Ex Track bike myth is bad.
    As with all bikes, have a look at it. When buying a supersport, it's going to have been ragged either way. But a track bike will have 'track depreciation' at like 4000 miles vs a street bikes 20000 miles.
    The engines are made to rev high. It's not bad for the bike. Has it been serviced. Has it been crashed. Typical stuff to look out for.

First couple days I was thinking "never going to ride again, it's not worth it" but over time I came to realize it was just nerves and anxiety about the bike, reporting the accident, insurance w/e but since then I have come to terms with it and picking it back up next week. I also have 2016 that I purchased during Covid. I bought the bike with 12k miles(19000kms) and I actually turned it into a full race bike. It now has a little over 20k miles (32000kms) on the original motor. I’ve raced almost a full season and the bike still pulls hard on brand new BMW’s and newer R1’s. I run motul 300v 10w-40 l, and I religiously change it since I’m so hard on it. I also only run Yamalube filters. Only failures I’ve had on mine were a stator going out, blew an o ring on a coolant line that comes out of the front of the engine block, and I had to replace my starter gaskets as they ended up failing and some oil was coming out. I also just replaced the entire clutch basket because it started to rattle but I doubt you will have to worry about that since your mileage is so low. If you stay on top of the oil changes I doubt you will have any reliability issues. I would keep an eye on the rubber gaskets since they are getting up there in age, but other than that you should be fine. Especially since it will be a street bike again. Good luck with the new project 👍🏻

    Great work on the video. Would I have brought this ex-racer? After a compression test and a check on straightness, absolutely yes, and totally agree on the extra benefit of doing some work on the bike yourself - to make it feel like it's truly yours. Without wanting to be condescending, just offering friendly advice, I'd consider checking the steering dampener (they get a work out on a race bike, and tank slapping is to be avoided at the mere cost of new or refurbished dampener). I would also give plastic welding a shot, before buying new or secondhand pieces to fix the cracked units (you end up with a plastic welding kit for next time, and possibly still a few dollars saved), and give a DIY respray a go (If you don't have the tricks already, there are plenty of really good U-Tubers that will show you everything you need to do, to get a good paintjob - as good as factory anyway and easily better if you put in the prep time, and control dust.) Just in case your not aware of the degree of health risk, if you do decide to spray it yourself, protect your lungs with appropriate respirator, with a good clean shaven seal to your face. Envious of you for sure. A great bike and a worthy project. Well done!

    Kitty says, "no camera. Look at me". Btw, bitubo are very good. They started out making dampers for ship engines and are used in BSB championship.

    My H2 had a Ti SC Project CR-T when I collected it. I picked it up from the dealership, rode 550km in one shot to the ferry home and by the time I got on the boat, I was on eBay buying a banana Akra for it

    I also just bought a track 2021 R1, condition wise very mint and ODO only 3k, ecerything is in stock condition. No scratches or fall damage but the bodywork had been airbrushed and tyres are worn out Supercorsa. Only thing I could think of is my bike is a dealer bike for people to test ride in track. Bike brought from japan to my country.
    Edit: yeah I'm the same as you CC, upgraded from MT09 2018 to a R1

    I bought a gsxr 600 that i suspect was tracked pretty hard. I am not positive but it did require a lot of maintenance. I still have it and at this point have done far too much to list here. If i wouldve known when buying it i wouldve passed. But we all learn. And it has taught me a lot about motorcycle mechanics.

    I'd actually advice you not to revert the suspension.
    This is already really good and what you need are springs for your weight, potential oil change to skinnier oil and tinkering with compression (and rebound if you change the oil, but either way if you slow it down it'll feel more plush as well)
    If you assume now that the sag is ok, wind down the compression and keep going down until it's soft enough.
    You'll probably want the fast speed compression to be almost 0 becuase this is the one that will take on the fast bumps, while the slow speed compression is for when you're breaking

    some track bikes can be better cared for than some street bikes, hopefully the owner knows how to take care of it. I bought a 2013 R6 with 9000 miles that was a track bike its whole life and was raced in motoameria and other club racing but the owner took so much good care of it. I got it as a steal as well and it was taken care of its whole life and was built from the bottom and throughout. It was checked/serviced/built from trusted mechanics and the previous owner all the time. it was abused on the track but was well taken care of off the track and its been going strong still today as I got it a couple years ago. Runs amazing out of all my other street bikes even with its one of the most miles and the oldest in my collection. couldn't be more happier with this track bike

    Godam that thing looks good. If only could keep it this way, no plate or anything, but have it not be such a give away that the cops just follow you home after.
