What's the difference between the MEROS chip and POKEY?

The way they generate sound. The MEROS works almost as a cheap synthesizer, with 4 dual tone channels. It can play all tones pretty well unlike the POKEY, and has the ability of Pulse Wave Modulation. Exactly how many widths is still on debate. At one time I even went as far as to call it an improved POKEY.
