It was in the 16th century when the birthplace of Pashmina - Kashmir - was under Mughal rule, that Pashmina was discovered. And the then Mughal kings were swooned by the mere looks of it.
Under Babur, the Mughal khil'at was a set of clothes, which could include a turban, long coat, gown, fitted jacket, sash, shawl, trousers, shirt, and scarf. One or all of these could be made of pashmina and embroidered in gold cloth. In 1586, Kashmir was conquered by Babur's grandson Akbar.
That's when Pashmina weaving started..
Nowadays, Most of the Pashmina Shawls are Fake and not that of Pure Pashmina Wool, which used to be wool of domesticated Changthangi goats, found in ladakh region only, Now we have Pashmina from China and Nepal.
So beware of Fake Pashmina Shawls
