It was self defense. What if the man had hurt his family members. Joe was just doing what any of us would do. They confronted him. On his property. Innocent in my eyes.
Of course it was self defence, but your not seeing the bigger picture, a man defending his family and home against attackers go against everything the establishment stands for...they want weak men and dysfunctional families, not masculine men with traditional values....the police want you disarmed weak and reliant on them...but as the saying goes, when there is only seconds to spare the police are minutes away.

Should be manslaughter 5 years. Thats still harsh but they likely made an example of Joe because hes a popular name in the travelling community.
Probably manslaughter while using self defence so sad they was no other way out of the situation fight for his and his family's life hope he gets some sort of justice

What fked Joe was the bottle because the jury and judge would of thinking about the ammonia and shouting I'm the king. I would of found him not guilty because I know the score.
I met Joe Joyce in London a few years ago with his cousin ‘Big’ Paul Joyce….and both were smashing fellas, very respectful and of course very respected.
Regardless of that…..the fact Joyce got a life sentence is a joke….it was obviously self defence? How can the court not see that? What was he supposed to do against multiple attackers all armed as well! If he turned his back it would have ended very badly for him…that was obvious.
He defended himself….and very unfortunately a young man lost his life RIP, but that doesn’t change the facts of the case.

Joe and the wife started the fight. Joe's wife poured acid over the wall at them kids and Joe was heard saying he'd kill them. He said he'd kill him and he did .that's murder. As for protecting his family he got 2.5 years in jail for beating his wife with a horse whip punched her in the face with a bunch of keys and kicked her on the ground while she was holding a child. Said he'd kill the child as well. Jail is to good for him.

How did Joe instigate them all turning up to his with weapons..joe would of fought them bare knuckle and beat everyone of them, they new this, hence why they turned up to joes threatening him his wife and kids..joe should be free.
You no nuffin article reader ..... the mcdonaghs was havin a BBQ in the house couple doors up was drunk and was tauting Joe over the back garden fences scaring Joe's little kids throwing bottles smashing fences etc it came out to the road where there was Joyce one and 4 men against him. He defended himself and his family HE SHOULD NOT BE IN JAIL ATALL !!

Unfortunately there is no "defending my family" defence. At the least he would have been charged with an affray, the prosecution went for the higher charges.
Self defence could have been proven if he had run away, at no point did he try and escape the situation.
What I will tell you is the Mcdonagh family and other traveller families are on the "list'.
What this means is there is a board in the police station with around ten or so names on it.
These people are deemed high value targets by the police, CPS, and the prosecuters at court.
Having been on the "list" for knocking a police officer clean out that grabbed me on the shoulder during a fight myself and my brother were having with a group of polish lads who were all released without charge. I can tell you matter were made worse by my friend and he accidentally hit a female officer in the face while she put cuffs on him during the same arrest.
The police will get you as soon as your name goes on the board, every fight, every minor crime, every time they see your car, every excuse they have to involve themselves with you they will use.
Travellers are deemed fair game and regularly pull the polices trousers down, this is why the police will single people our just to get any conviction on a family they don't like. Best bet is appeal and get your appeal heard in a different area than where you grew up or hang about.
They stiched him up cuz he was a travler. Who did he use as his barister in his original case and who is his barrister on the appeal. Any good good barrister and legal team who have been in the game years would have got him off murder to the point that charge should of been thrown out. Just wrong.
