I'm a frequent Maryland Zoo visitor, and this bear seems a lot more active than the ones we have here. While it's sad to see her gone, she seems to be very happy.
Oregon Zoo established the high mark for polar bear exhibits/enclosures. Others must take note, this bear, Nora, appears to be exceedingly content, experiments and all.
Nora and Amelia - half-sisters born in one zoo and brought together in another. This introduction between them seems to have gone quite well. :) I hope the two polar bears can continue to get along and serve as ambassadors for their species. :)

I know wild polar bears are solitary creatures, but it really warms my heart to see Nora have a playmate in Amelia Gray. I can tell already these sisters are going to be best buddies.
well, it seems that the best toy for a polar bear is indeed another polar bear... I am sure there is a ton of pretty intense social negotiation going on at the same time, but they seem to be pulling punches and enjoying themselves - I did have the impression that polar bears are kind of solitary animals, but I suppose [well, half in this case] sib relationships exist in the wild for at least a while?
A lot of animals are loners out of necessity (resource-scarcity, etc.) but are perfectly capable of being social when conditions allow. I'm not saying Polar Bears are super-gregarious (and I'd guess you wouldn't want to try something like this with adult males), but many species are a lot more socially flexible than we'd expect.
Iam so happy Nora had a family. Columbus let our baby go and never let Cola our Gorilla go. I was mad an adovacate for her. Maybe now she can find peace and love. Sure did love that bear. Have not been back since they screwed that little bear over. She will always be ours. Look how many years this little bear was alone because of the Columbus boobs.

There is actually a large glass observation window. Most times I have been there Nora was quite active.
