I've always loved that despite the numerous references to Bowie throughout the franchise (diamons dogs probably being the most obvious), the version of man who sold the world that represents venom snake isn't Bowie's original but instead a cover, perfect little hint right at the beggining of the game

This song is about a man realising he did changed over time but not as much as hebelieved, basically through a metaphorical dialogue between the narator and it's friend (his past self). He thought this version of him was dead but yet he met it at an intersection, a transition point, a curve in his existance represented by a staircase. Yet at this mile stone of his existence this version of him still manifest itself and has weight in his life choices. As if a part of you just can't die while you still live, because this part is what define the most what is "you", this ultimate part of the human soul and ego that cannot be reduced Descartes saw as the corner stone that define your perseption of the reality.
Glad you enjoyed it the edit is really good, but if I may ask where were you deployed to and what was your experience I know this is out of the blue but still it peaked my curiousity if you don't want to answer just ignore this
The first time I heard the song in game, I thought it was weird, obviously being younger the old style vocals would immediately make me think I wasn't going to like it, but I figured that in all of Kojima glory, there was some hidden meaning behind every little detail, and yea, I wasn't wrong, after all "The Man who Sold the World" is plastered all over, although I also have to admit, it wasn't even anywhere near a normal song, you can feel a story behind the song, even when not being to sure about the story, the songs constant melody makes you feel like you have eyes on you from everywhere, making me think deeply while my consciousness faded out to the hypnotizing melody, like they just don't let you live something down, like living a lie and knowing it, like you have to abide by someone's rules because if you don't, hell can break loose. I really dunno how it used to invoke those feelings on me, but they did, and this was when I really did not understand much back then, I was constantly confused by events and people occurring, you could say it actually felt like I was in Venom's boots in that sense, but yea ultimately here we are, everyone of us mgs fans can rejoice and suffer altogether, especially after Konami ruined it for us all and Kojima... wish he could've taken the series with him. I'm pretty sure many of you feel just as connected with mgs as I do, we've been here for years after all.
Another twist with the song is that this isn't even the original. It's originally a David Bowie song. In a way "using" someone else's legacy and "taking" it on yourself
@@babababab71 Yea I heard David Bowies, it's really good still, but this one definitely fit the style they were going for, the way the melody turned hypnotic is probably why its still different to Bowie's, and yea, you're right about that, that fits in pretty well here... wanna have even more food for thought? During the development of GZ and TPP, Kojima was constantly alluding to his legacy disappearing, like with the easter eggs and the "unfinished" TPP even though he said it was finished, I had to really think about that to realize the man probably knew it was coming since before Konami started going through the changes officially...
On my 5th run through. Only problem is the Konami server required for online content AND Sony sign in requirements. (Remember when you could put a game in and play it?)
I like how there were subtle hints he wasn't the real big boss his eye being intact although blinded needing a russian translater even though big boss is fluent in the language etc
MGS got me addicted to trauma it gave me. The phantom pain of Mission 51 is still hurting. But thanks to it, I'm a better person. It's time to go to a anime/game con with a Big Boss cosplay and walk around in a cardboard box playing Love's Detterence. That's how you recruit friends in the Motherbase.
The tragedy for me is the fact that they are remaking MGS3 (though a great game) when I wanted to continue the Venom, V, Ahab, Phatom, storyline as it's nearly as twisted as Big Boss using V. I was hoping for the next iteration of this and maybe a remake of the NES titles so that we can get a V conclusion modernized.
they’re probably starting with 3 so they can do the entire story in chronological order for a new age of consoles. this is if MGS3 Delta releases to good reviews and people wanting more. it’s the only reason why they’d start with that one of all mgs games
@@shawngaetz8161 yes, my friend. Now they can only do remakes and remasters, and even if they'll make a NEW metal gear game... It's not going to be great, at my opinion. Without Kojima they can only write f-up plot. So, as long as Kojima is not in his previous position, mg, mgs and mgr are doomed.
