    WOW I wasn't expecting to see a so depressing video today
    with your 1300 wishlist at launch I would have expected way more sales on first week
    if the conversion ratio are that low that even worst that I thought, considering my still pretty low wishlist numbers
    anyway, congrats for releasing your game and it won't stop you for making games :)

      Look at global market. People currently got way other priorities than spending money on games. Especially on small unknown and niché ones. Inflation rising, energy cost, housing cost, food cost. So yeah dont expect much nowadays if you dont do anything unique or if not unique then of very high quality.
      Also oversaturation of gaming market with bloatware means you need good marketing to stick out aswell

      Bit late to get back to this sorry but YES you're absolutely right - people have bigger things to worry about then 1) buying and 2) spending (wasting) time on sub-par games. This is why for game developers, especially indie devs, we should very much focus on offering people quality content that is within our capacity, rather than something like a "dream" game idea that only the developer cares about.

    Thank you for answering an age old question. It's time to create my first real game, and not be intimidated by the fact that it'll likely fail. I'll learn a lot, and I'll be able to create a better one next time.

    Another great vid. Indie dev's have a lot more to learn from failed releases than successful ones. Im glad you brought up wishlists as well. It's a good indicator but it's not the ultimate deciding factor. I launched my first game with 500 wishlists and we did $1000 of sales every day for the first week.

      @@AndrzejGieraltCreative thanks! We tend to only hear from the experiences of devs who make 100k on launch. But there are plenty of full time indie devs who make a more modest living like myself. Looking forward to seeing more of your future videos.

    I lovee how much critical thinking you put into your videos ! You understand what you did right but also understand what you did wrong (in this case , the game mechanics for example) , you are realistic about it which i'm sure will help you grow and become a better Developer in the long-run! I just found out about your channel from the Dani video so i'm looking forward to more of your videos . Well deserved YT bell!

      Thank you! I found that for myself, I definitely have to be spending time on things I enjoy rather than crunching to make money off of it. Also the whole idea of "fail faster" and learning by doing. Good luck with the comic! Hopefully it does go well.

      Lol it seems YT started recommending the video a bit more for some reason, thanks for checking it out! And hey it's a worth a shot, if you're good at art it's the perfect kind of game to make I think. There's software out there to make it easier but I'm not at all familiar with visual novels.

    Eyy thanks for making this video! I forgot I had to buy it and I didn't know it was out lmao. Yeah, don't take it too hard - it's hard to make waves when steam is overflowing as it is. Just know you're starting to make a small following so keep at it and you'll slowly rise above the rest.

    i've made 1k dollars in 5 years with 4 games, not school projects, but games with a story, gameplay mechanics, replayability, endgame. The thing is that nobody wants to play those types of games.
    All the people you mentioned became yt personalities, or made the break on yt by becoming famous, that gives you a cult that will buy and market your game, hence makes you money.
    Just make games OTHERS would play not games you would enjoy, that's what i've learned from doing the wrong thing for 5 years, since the change it's even working for my yt channel, now i make tutorials that show people how to do things and i get 10x the views, sometimes even 10k+. A business has to be treated like a business.

    • @AndrzejGieraltCreative
      @AndrzejGieraltCreative  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, ok so first of all, congrats on releasing 4 games, that's amazing. You clearly learned a lot in doing so, and it really highlights the idea of "fail faster" - people are gonna miss the mark with their first few games, it's only natural.
      And that's basically the point I was trying to make about the TH-camrs, I wouldn't say it gives them a "cult," but rather they have built up a consistent audience through the work they put into their videos, it's only natural those people will want to buy their games, BUT the key is that people shouldn't model themselves off those people unless they specifically want to devote effort into TH-cam (kind of what I'm trying to do to be honest).
      And also, I do think it's not so easy to "just make games OTHERS would play" - lots of learning goes into that - but you're absolutely right. It has to be treated like a business.
      Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    Are you saying that you don't get to control what screens/videos show on your Steam store page???

    • @AndrzejGieraltCreative
      @AndrzejGieraltCreative  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No no! I'm saying that I realized after the fact that the screenshots I took didn't have a whole lot to offer Steam shoppers. If my game was more interesting, I could have made better screenshots. I mean, I think my screenshots are alright, but it comes down to learning the best way to present the best things about your game, if that makes sense! Easier said than done haha!

    Solo gamedev is fun, but hard. But fun, so hard dosen't matter. If anyone is entering it to get rich, poor choice! You MIGHT get lucky with proper marketing but otherwise, it's just for fun.

    • @AndrzejGieraltCreative
      @AndrzejGieraltCreative  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure how much luck has to do with it! Marketing is a skill just like game dev is, some people don't enjoy that though, and it's 100% fine to just do gamedev for fun :D
