Yes this was the 1994 Uber Cup final that meant so much to badminton mad Indonesia as it was the first time in Indonesian badminton history that both the Uber Cup and the Thomas Cup were won at the Istora Senayan in front of a very fanatical and partisan Indonesian fans.
Unlike the Thomas Cup final a day later,the Uber Cup final had to be decided by the fifth tie as the score was tied at 2-2.
Here we have the very young green horn Mia Audina at only 14 who played her hearts out in ensuring that the Uber Cup was won by Indonesia by outplaying and outclassing the much more experienced Han Jigna.
For Indonesia it was a Uber Cup triumph to savour as it was in 1975 that they last won the Uber Cup.In 1986 with Yanti Kusmiati,Elizabeth Latief and Verawathy Fajirin now a moslem,Indonesia were edged 3-2by China at the same venue nearly two decades ago.
But this time around with All England champion Susi Susanti leading the charge and in top form China had no answer to Indonesia's sheer power in the singles.
And the Chinese players had to contend with the very partisan Indonesian fans and that turned the tide in favour of the home team.
Already Indonesia had sounded a warning to the Cup holders China when the former had outplayed South Korea 4-1 in the semifinals.The Koreans had made a complaint that their players were subjected to boos and jeers and even pelted with objects.
Nevertheless it was an historic moment for Indonesian badminton as 1994 was indeed the pinaccle of Indonesian badminton achievement.
Not only the Thomas Cup was won with a 3-0 demolition of Cup holders Malaysia but the Uber Cup was won as well.
In the next Uber Cup/Thomas Cup finals in Hong Kong in 1996 they would repeat the same feat against the very same apponents but with a more convincing 4-1 scoreline in the final.Their men would outclassed Denmark 3-0.
Yes 1994 and 1996 were the golden years for Indonesian badminton as both the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup were won in scintillating form.But that unfortunately would not be repeated for the third unteempth time in 1998.China took full advantage of an already pregnant and declined Susi Susanti to wrest back the Uber Cup with a 4-1 win.

This was Indonesia's second Uber Cup triumph as they toppled defending champions China 3-2 in the 1994 Uber Cup final at the Istora Senayan with 14 year old Mia Audina turned heroine by delivering the winning point against Zhang Ning.
In 1975 Indonesia had wrested the Uber Cup from holders Japan beating the latter 5-2 also at Istora Senayan.
But that was nineteen years ago and Susi Susanti was only four years old.
This time around the 1994 Uber Cup triumph had never been sweeter for the home team.Not only the won the Uber Cup but the Thomas Cup as well with an emphatic 3-0 crushing win over defending champions Malaysia.
And in defeating China the Indonesians backed by a vociferous and partisan home fans thus ended China's ten year reign as Uber Cup kingpins.
For China had won the Uber Cup five times in a trot from 1984 to 1992 and had only lost once to South Korea in a group match.Their Uber Cup was almost near perfect until Indonesia edged them for the Cup.
