I made my donation to the single Mum before I knew of any suspicion of a "scam" which sounds like a fairly straightforward one: Suppliers and buyers one and the same, trap the poor individual in between. I've been scammed myself (in a far more sophisticated way) and I choose to believe Mum, her emotional reaction spoke volumes to me. But even if she were scamming me, to be perfectly honest - I don't care! Desperate times like these mean that people there must explore every possible way to make a little money and are easy prey for criminals. I know that any money Mum receives will go to looking after her little one and that's all that matters to me. Huge Thanks to the "usual suspects"; William, Janny, Antonio, Vinh and Robert - Great Job Guys.
Your attitude reminds me of something that happened to me in South East Asia. There was an elderly woman with no legs crawling on the road covered in filth. When I stopped her to give her some money, I was told "Don't do that, she is a scammer and is probably more rich than you". My reply was that with no legs and crawling on the road like a caterpillar, if that is a scam then I am ok with being fooled. At what point of misery is someone enveloped before others will have mercy? I think you are right about single Mum, she has no reason to lie, the donations came before the information about the scammers. It doesn't make sense that she would tell that story to receive assistance, when she already got the donations. This story has an extra resonance for me because my own daughter was (and I guess still is) a single Mum, her partner passing away just months after the birth of my beloved Grand-daughter. Struggles with money etc. while committing yourself 24/7 to the care of a child for many years takes it's toll wherever you are in the world and here in Vietnam right now, this unfortunate young lady is having a very hard time of it. I was able to help my own kids through it and I will do what I can to help Mum and the little one right now. The lack of a male parent/role model seems to be an unfortunate common factor with many of Troy's cases and it's so important for a child's future development to have a balance. BTW. My substitute Dad role worked out pretty well and 28 years later, my Grand-daughter (Rhiannon) and I are very close. My Very Best Wishes to you and yours. Jay.

She advanced the money of the shop she was working for, to a online group that sells watches, to pay for the watches because she is convinced she'll make the money back plus profit from the "buyers". 3. Once she received the watches the "buyers" canceled. 4. The "buyers" were the online group watch sellers
Yeah Tate, that sounds like what happened. To add to this, I think maybe she was working for a shop of some sort, and used the shop's money to pay for the watches. Now she owes the shop their money back for the scam.

I think its COD driver , so you can buy things online and driver take the stuff 1st and pay it, then deliver to you , you pay driver the fee and cost of that stuff - mostly its food. That kind of scam also present here in indonesia.

I'm both amazed and disappointed at the continued criticism of Chi Hop (Pharmacy Lady). Together with the redoubtable (and previously maligned) Stalin and Quyen these ladies are doing wonderful and vital humanitarian work and deserve our praise not criticism. I fear we are judging Vietnamese culture by our Western standards and being unnecessarily offended on other peoples' behalf. Big Mistake!
No wonder the cops didn’t help the single mother, they didn’t understand what heck she was talking about. Her story made little to no sense but nonetheless she has a small kid to take of all by herself so a donation is definitely deserved.

I don't have any word to express about the 2 ladies go with you to charities, but they are very rude and the way they talk down to the poor people. They told the girl with the child need to dress like a poor so people would be more pitiful for the story. If you go back watch your own video and listen to both ladies. Feel this video is just a scam artist.

I was not aware that was normal until I watched these videos. Although "off putting" as I said above, i am not complaining, as Chi Hop is instrumental in helping Troy, and she appears to have a heart of gold. It's rather interesting how customs differ from country to country.

Troy often will often stand back and let others play the lead role in his videos. It is an admirable thing to do and many of the recipients probably feel more comfortable speaking with someone that has the local dialect. I like both Quyen and Chi Hop and I think they have been very helpful.
