  • This 28-minute video highlights strategies and approaches that early childhood personnel and families can use to systematically target social emotional supports that build young children’s skills in a variety of areas including making friends, problem solving, asking an adult for help, talking about feelings, and managing their emotions. The strategies rely on a 3-stage approach to supporting young children’s social emotional development by (1) introducing and practicing a skill, (2) building fluency and competency with a skill, and (3) ensuring there is maintenance of a skill. The video provides multiple examples of early childhood personnel demonstrating how to introduce a skill using a variety of tools, practice a skill through planned and unscripted activities, and maintain the skill by recognizing children for using the skill on their own.

    I think when the child wanted to share his food the teacher said”she doesn’t want your food;”she should have said,that is nice you want to share your food but she has her drink. So he will not feel uncomfortable about his actions

    I noticed that all of the children in this appear to be about 3 years old or older. Also, I am wondering whether any of the children have any receptive and/or expressive language delays or disabilities that would require different techniques to be used in order to teach them those same skills.

    • @PyramidModel
      @PyramidModel  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for this comment! The Pyramid Model is a framework designed to support children's social and emotional development and competence. We always recommend tailoring learning opportunities to the young children in each space, meaning these practices and strategies will vary across environments depending on the children, families, providers, and program. Children with disabilities often need more targeted or individualized support than children without disabilities. They learn the same concepts alongside their peers but may, for example, benefit from more opportunities to practice or visual supports that break down concepts into more steps. The most important thing for providers to do is to get to know the children in their environment-their preferences, learning styles, strengths, and areas of need-and to tailor social and emotional supports accordingly. It is also important to monitor children’s social and emotional learning over time to ensure the strategies used are effective for them. We hope this helps!

      @@PyramidModel All of that is very clearly explained and makes sense to me, in theory. The struggle I have, however, is in practice. In practice, where, "Children with disabilities often need more targeted or individualized support than children without disabilities," I can only provide comparatively as much (or comparatively as little) targeted and individualized support to any one child within my ratio of 6 2 year olds (in a room that contains up to 13 - and soon to be 15 - 2 to 3 year olds, in total, and with just two other adults present), for any amount and frequency of time as is possible for me to do, but without that also unfairly taking away from (any number of) each of the other children in my group also receiving their own due and needed share of targeted and individualized support (and without my having to flat out ignore the various other children in the room).
