    The deep well illustration beginning around 2:46 has the larger pipe pipe labeled as the return pipe, but in the audio narrative at about 3:13, the return pipe is said to be a smaller diameter. Which is correct?

    • @michaelhilber8284
      @michaelhilber8284 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      He is using the word "return" in two totally different ways! No wonder you are commenting on it.
      The big line, 1.25 inch, is the suction line, water is brought up.
      The small line, 1 inch, sends water down to the jet. Water travels down into the well.
      What he was saying is the small line "returns" water down into the well, and the big line "returns" water up to the pump. HaHa.

    Hello. What would be the best pump to draw water out of a 6ft sewage drain?

    I’ve been calling it an ‘Injector’ for 35 years 😂. Maybe that’s common and the guys at the pump shops I goto also call it that?
    Great job explaining this, thanks

    • @Observ45er
      @Observ45er ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a jet pump and works due to entrainment, not Bernoulli. The pressure out of a this and the garden hose nozzle is not lower because of the speed. It is lower because it opens into a lower pressure atmosphere. As you restrict the nozzle more and more, the pressure INSIDE the hose increases. That is why it shoots farther. It the hose pressure stayed the same, it would shoot just as far Do the math on area, pressure and volume.

    So on the deep water system, does water flowing through the drive pipe draw water through the foot valve by the venturi principal? How is water prevented from flowing out of the foot valve?

    wait a minuten, if regular pumps can only suck max to 9-10 meters of water, does that mean that injector pump with injector mounted right at the front of the injector pump can suck up to 20 meters has the manufacturer clames, or do i have to send the injector down the water at 18-17 meters ?

    I am using a 1.0 HP submersible pump to lift water from a 55m well. The pump is set at 49m and using a 1-1/4 pipe. The pump doesn't seem very strong and I was told to not run it for more than 30 minutes at a time. Once I connect a pressure tank (and switch) the well water will go through a filter and treatment system before filling a 1500L holding tank. A whole house pressure pump will supply water from the holding tank to the house. How (where) can I add a second pump to use the well water (continuous pressure) for landscaping and fill a large fish pond? I was told to replace the submersible pump with a deep water jet pump? Thoughts?

    hello!! i want to convert a jet pump to an ordinary pump. which one hole do i have to seal for better efficiency, delivery or return ??

  • @NBSTL68
    @NBSTL68 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does "distance" refer to depth from, length from the pump or both? Does the height of the water surface come into play? For example I have a Gould HSJ20N shallow water jet pump. The intake hose is 30' long which extends straight out into a lake where the intake sits about 8' under water and overall about 10', if measured vertically, below the pump. The lake level recently was dropped about 7 ' for a repair. So now the pump is only about 1' under water, but same distance from the pump. The pump is now overheating, hitting around 258 deg F before it eventually kicks off. Could just the water level drop somehow cause this issue or should I be looking elsewhere like an electrical issue? It sounds normal to me when running and it is getting plenty of water at the intake.

    Between 3:43 and 3:53 we hear that the venturi & nozzle must be carefully matched to the pump and system needs; however, there ought to be some overt mention made when replacing an old convertible 2-pipe jet pump with a new pump that the old deep well jet ejector may be used, or should never be used with the new pump.

    We want to pull irrigation water from our pond which is 600 ft away.. There is no electricity at the pond so we will need to to use the electricity near the house . The pond is 600 ft away and the house is 20 ft higher than the pond..(so it is very gently slant) We borrowed our deep well convertible pump and used it as a shallow pump but could only get the shallow well pump to pump at a 80ft horizontal distance. Could we pull water over the 600 ft is we used our convertible pump as a deep well pump and had it by the house and ran two pipes to the pond? Would the deep well pump pull 600 ft horiontally?
    Currently we can use a gasoline pump which pushes the water up the 600 feet and it is great. but we cant put it on a timer to water our garden and orchards twice a day (that a lot of water) Is there any other pump that we could buy to do this job? Any and ideas and suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Jenny

    Great videos Chris!!
    We have a (shallow well) jet pump starts running when we are using water in our house. It runs well but suddenly starts “jacking”. I searched cavitation and it’s not the same sound. It would be similar to the power surging. Like the pump sort of starts “chugging”. It’s on the floor in our utility room, connected via a braided wire covered “hose” to a valve to a “drain valve” (looks like the taps outside of your house for a garden hose) and into the base of our water holding tank.
    Any insight?

    • @RCworstwater
      @RCworstwater  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like your pressure switch is too far away from your pressure tank. When the pump shuts off there's a "wave" action that the pressure tank helps to dissipate. If you're more than a few feet away from the pressure tank then it will not be dissipated enough and your pressure switch will rapid cycle.

    Does your company supply and ship parts for Goulds Jet pumps? I have a Frankenstein J5, and may require a nozzle/venturi change. My 1 1/4 shallow well system is new, ( brand new Simmons 1724-1 point, with about 3 hrs of run time in the ground) at a depth of 27', with a water table at 19', (or 7-8' of water in the pipe), and nothing but sand. My J5 (at ground level) will shoot water out of a 5 gal. bucket, about 15', and will M/T it in less than 10 seconds. Yet when I hook up the system, it only yields about 2 Gal a min. wide open, out of the ground. Was wondering if an improperly sized jet assy. would cause this? Thanks for your video series. Very informative.

    Hi , Ive bought a property that has a injector down by the lake. The pump up at the house only has one inlet . There are two pipes returning from the lake , one bigger than the other.
    Im confused to witch one connects to the suction on pump? Does any one know ?

    • @RCworstwater
      @RCworstwater  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both need to connect because you are likely pulling from greater than 25' elevation. The original pump that was there needs to be replaced with the same model.

    Late comer to your vids but thanks a bunch for the education. Most jet pump vids I've seen talk about single stage pumps with deep well limitations of 75-90ft of lift. But I recently came across a video on Goulds SJ series multistage jet pumps capable of pumping water from as deep as 200ft. They're considerably more expensive but I'm interested in your thoughts on those.
    I recently had a well drilled that is 250ft deep with 30gal/minute flow from 240ft, in a 6" casing. Static head is 50ft and I don't know what that level drew down to during the flow test. I'd prefer to use a jet pump so the the SJs caught my interest.

    • @RCworstwater

      Yes, jet pumps can be used to boost the pressure supplied by your city. There are local codes that have to be followed when doing so, usually a double-check valve must be installed to prevent contamination.

    I am finding that many sellers of these pumps call all of them jet pumps. Many are just centrifugal pumps for irrigation and shallow wells. I am going to attempt to use a shallow well pump from Harbor Freight as a pressure booster for a house trailer. Pressure is about 35psi and drops to around 20 when a valve is opened. I hope this will increase water pressure enough so I don't have to wait 30 mins for the tub to fill up. I think the proper name for these jet pumps should be venturi pumps.

    OUCH! Still same error as 5 years ago. . .
    The hose squirts farther because the pressure is HIGHER inside the hose! Try measuring it and you'll see.
    The finger blocks part of the hose and therefore increases the pressure in the hose.
    ,
    What you either gloss over, or appear to miss is that the pressure is lower AT the opening. The pressure here is atmospheric pressure which is lower than the hose internal pressure and this pressure difference accelerates the mass of water to the higher speed into the air.
    ..
    If the hose pressure STAYED THE same:
    It would squirt the same because the area of the opening is smaller and so is the amount of water in the opening. The force decreases in proportion to the area. If the pressure was the same, this reduced force matches the reduced area and water mass. The decreased force matches the decreased mass... thus, the same distance squirt.
    ...
    Therefore, the pressure must increase if it squirts farther.
    As I say, measure the hose pressure when you put your finger over it.
    You'll see that it increases with the finger.
    ....
    Jet ejector pumps work due to entrainment which is caused by viscosity. It is incorrect to say it is lower pressure due to speed rather than entrainment.
    The lower pressure is due to the entrainment dragging water away from the source. The jet itself does not have lower pressure due to the flow speed.
