Hard to believe that this album was the stepping stone for a House sub-genre to exist, and as well, be the beginning of Dallas’s (YB) career as a music producer for tons of artists from the pop or mainstream genres.
Personally, this album woke my inspiration to give production a try. Specifically, to produce French house/ future funk instrumentals. Unfortunately, I never cracked the code when it came to sampling or even mixing. It goes to show that these artists have a talent and an ear to discover the funk, that is, from the future ;)

I think this album treads a fine line between actually sampling songs and just stealing snippets of obscure music and overlaying them with drums and a stop-start effect lol

i think of it as more of a french house dj mixtape

I've said the same thing about his music in general; though he's shown chops throughout his discog and his ventures into live performance have made him grow on his detractors.
There are (not very popular, but well known) artists in other genres that do similar things. Madlib, considered one of the goat samplers, sometimes released DJ sets on expensive vinyl. Basically a mix of other people's music without drums or anything like that added. MF DOOM has a few joints really pushing the limits, like the one where he sampled a well known boz Skaggs song and didn't change anything.

Thanks for the video. I like the album so much but dissapointed to know it's hardly copied from it's sample without citing the real song. I more respect to Night Tempo which mentioned credits on his song's title.
And also YB - I Wan't Cha Back was sampled from Con Funk Shun - I'll Get You Back

I'm guilty of listening to a lot of future funk artists, but there is something to be said about white guys taking samples of ostensibly black and asian (POC) music and doing little with it. On the bright side, I found a lot of disco/RnB songs (Your Love is a Life Saver, The Dude, Windy Summer) I really like through artists like Yung Bae, and it's kind of what got me into disco and 80's tunes in general. The whole thing feels morally gray. I always justified it for myself by considering these albums as more of a "mixtape" than original content. And it does take knowledge of music and good taste to find the right song!

It's like when people take an existing code source and extend it with their own features. I feel like music is the same, people can take the original, remix it and create a very different experience, even though the notes are the same or the original song is still recognizable. Also, like you said, they take really unknown songs, which made the genre revive said songs.
Just like the city pop explosion due to vaporwave / future funk. The usage of samples lets people know the original piece and so, they learn about more songs that were unknown to them before. Or at least that's what I feel and what's happened to me

@gritsandfritz Yeah, white people always saying stuff to act like they are saving world from racism.
Also, macross is not white and he also did this back in the beginning lmao.
I agree with you man, what matters is that the music is good :3
