I think it's worthy to note how different the music industry scene is in Korea vs Japan. In Japan, as long as you can be one of three things, you can be in the music industry, etc. 1) Good looking 2) Sing well 3) Dance well. You just have to be one of those things to "make" it in Japan. It's a lot harsher in Korea and US(Sometimes I wonder about the US though) so something like AK would be harder to do.
Perfume unquestionably lip-sync. They are passable singers when they let them, but since it practice, they don't anymore, it doesn't really matter. Perfume is popular because their music is awesome, they dance well, and their looks, imagery and design is all top class. Their singing ability is irrelevant, as they play music over them 30x louder than their mics are. Also, they are good, though probably not amazing, at variety shows. It's a nice addition, but they probably couldn't cut it just as variety regulars.
I always thought Koisuru Fortune Cookie and Kokoro no Placard would've been closer to what AKB48 is like nowadays. That said, I think River is still the best AKB48 song of all time.
Their singles are starting to get a bit more generic. The election and October songs used to always have some character, but that's not really that true anymore. I will admit, most of the j-pop I listen to are Vocaloids. I really love Gumi's voice and the music involved in her songs! In terms of a j-pop DJ I like Deco*27's work. He is fantastic when it comes to music! He's worth looking into :)

I always thought Koisuru Fortune Cookie and Kokoro no Placard would've been closer to what AKB48 is like nowadays.
That said, I think River is still the best AKB48 song of all time.
Their singles are starting to get a bit more generic. The election and October songs used to always have some character, but that's not really that true anymore.

I will admit, most of the j-pop I listen to are Vocaloids. I really love Gumi's voice and the music involved in her songs! In terms of a j-pop DJ I like Deco*27's work. He is fantastic when it comes to music! He's worth looking into :)
