Always great seeing an ALF, great catch of some good looking apparatus!

So while standing by, I guess they had a drill on how to open a hydrant?

Looks like it, the call was probably an automatic alarm.

Very uncommon to see a drill with a live code 3 response ?

Was probably an AFA which turned out to be a false alarm, so the other 2 companies handled it. Gave them the opportunity to train the probie's on how to dress a hydrant. In a real response the moment that engine would have stopped, one of the senior guys would have gotten out, grabbed the hydrant bag and the supply line, and then ushered the engine up the street for a forward lay so it could either get a line on the fire or supply one of the ladders, most likely the tower ladder. The senior man would have stayed to dress the hydrant and secure water.
