I know this is a bit more of a negative video than I normally make, but if I'm not honest I'm not helping anyone. It would be a lot more profitable to just tell you guys why you should buy a Z Fold lol. I'm aware that my opinion comes from a very privileged place as someone who has all of these phones as well. I also want to make it clear that this isn't meant to be an in-depth Z Fold vs Open comparison video. There's way more to dig into on that subject, and I'm sure I'll do that at some point.
That narrow and tall front screen definitely sucks and that's one of the reasons I still haven't upgraded from my Duo 2 just yet. Looks like the One Plus Fold will probably be my best bet. Looking forward for your next video on the Z Fold.
I may be in the minority that likes the thinner outer display. It feels nice holding in one hand and making calls. It's also great in a fast-paced environment when you have to pull it out and type fast with one hand. I work in a hospital.
I had a Note 20 Ultra prior to a fold 4, and even that was too wide. The Fold 6 cover display feels like the perfect size for quick tasks while still giving me the option of the larger screen when I want it for media. The only thing I want now is an even thinner profile, better cameras, s pen silo, and support for the pen on the cover screen. For now, I'm happy with my purchase regardless of what the haters say.
You never have apologize for being too positive or too negative or go out of the way explaining yourself. That INCLUDES THE FULL REVIEW. Yor honestly about how and why you truly feel about something is all you ever need to present to people. Negative reviews are needed and important, especially in the tech space.
@@halgrynshaun Z6 Fold is the best iteration so far, it's a nice upgrade in my eyes versus Z4/Z5 Fold. As long as you are happy with the purchase, this is what matters most, enjoy that beast!
That is why the Fold 6 is the best overall foldable phone. It is not the best in anyone category, but it is the best overall! Samsung maintains compatibility and support for multiple generations for multiple years. No other phone manufacturer has this track record!
I personally have to disagree with your opinions here. I hear the impression a lot re: the cover screen that it's "not there yet," but not everything needs to be the same, that is what actually makes things boring. Folding phones are inherently a device about compromise. Once you make the cover display as wide as you're proposing, you end up with a square on the inner display, which is optimal for pretty much nothing. To me, it's about balancing the outer and inner display so both are at the maximum utility, which for me the Z Fold does better than the OnePlus Open: - Better one handed ratio - Inner screen more rectangular which makes it have less bars for most video content. - not so narrow that the outer screen is unusable: we are now in between the width of an iPhone mini and regular iPhone. Most wouldn't call those phones too narrow to type on. Something like the fold 3 was so narrow that even with practice you wouldn't be able to type very well two-handed. But they've improved it every year and they basically get no credit for it. I know you're coming from a perspective of already owning the Pixel Fold and OnePlus Open, but there's probably a larger group of people who either have a much older foldable or looking to get their first one. But at least here in Canada, it's definitely not cheaper when Samsung offers excellent trade-in deals, even with the OnePlus Open being older. Last important point of why I had to hard pass on the OnePlus. Long term durability/repairability feels like the Samsung wins out. The IP48 build is much more confidence inspiring than IPX4, especially for someone who lives somewhere it rains a lot. Also, Samsung's Care+, at least from my research online, is a much better service than OnePlus' Warranty - and you can't even buy an extended protection plan in Canada. Comparably, I can go into a Samsung Experience Store and have a screen replaced within the same day.
I came from the 4. I like the thinner screen, a lot of apps are just scrolling and one hand use is great for those. It also makes it more pocketable which is important to me. Outside the form factor the software is what makes a difference in daily use and Samsungs multitasking software is night and day to the others. To me software is the most important part.
Have you used the one plus open? What exactly does the Samsung software has that's better? I have both right now, and I'm trying to decide. Maybe I'm missing something? The only useful thing I'll miss in the open is Dex.
@@itsintheword230 cameras are a hard discussion on fold. Yes Samsung should upgrade the cameras every year even if it's a small change. But folds more so than other phones have a space issue. When you have it folded you need to have each have so thin so it's still pocketable. Cameras need space to get good quality and when you fold a phone you have essentially 3 screens taking up space. So much less room than a normal phone. That's where the camera bump comes in. One plus has a massive bump that's almost the size of a 3rd fold. Each half is 5.9mm and the camera bump is 5.1mm. since the bump is pretty much also half the phone, that makes the phone a lot thicker than advertised. The folds bumps are a lot smaller. Folds will never have current year flagship cameras, it's a sacrifice you make for folding, but they should be closer to previous year flagship cameras, and the fold 6 cameras have been pretty much the same since the 4. All that said, they do take really good pictures. If the quality was bad I would be more upset.
@@ZubinSaxena 1. for me going back from the home instead of just dragging is a lot slower 2. The expanding vs just dragging is less functional. The expanded makes the other app not usable. I use my fold as a dash in my car and I don't want an even split so I have GPS 2/3rds and Spotify 1/3rd. I liking having a similar multitasking to a regular computer and not preset spaces like a phone. 3. I don't often do 3 apps at once but it's nice when I can. 4. Separate homepages when folded and unfolded. I don't wanted my folded home screens to be he same as unfolded just turned into more pages. This is a really big deal to me. 5. Apps fitting unfolded both portrait and landscape, as well as homescreen. Another huge deal to me. 6. Spen 7. More apps with flex mode
Why do people want a screen that requires 2 handed use on the front? The front screen is for quick one handed actions. Even my S23 plus is too wide to comfortably use 1 handed.
I think a more productive question to ask would be why do people want a wider cover display. Rather framing it as people asking for something that's bad, of you genuinely ask why people want the thing they want you'll probably get good answers.
I have the fold 5. I love it just as much as when i first got it. I am loving the more square design of the fold 6 and the fact its slightly thinner but im just still in shock they havent really changed the camera 😅😅
Exactly this. Have the Fold 5 but I wanted the cameras improved more. Now here's the thing...right now you can get a great trade-in deal on the 6 and if I DON'T upgrade and keep the Fold 5 for a whole year more I'm gonna gonna be pissed if it breaks in 6 months!!
@Mickname-n6w same here I think I'm going to wait for fold 7 or 8 hopefully there is s series cameras on the folds by then. I do love Samsung but they need to up their game lol
I've been using Android phones since the beginning. To watch people type with 2 thumbs is frustrating when you can swipe. I personally like the outer screen on the Fold so I can use it one handed. Can't wait for your review video. Keep up the great job
Swipe still works comfortably one handed on the Open, and your thumb can reach fully across it. Plus, sometimes swipe isn't accurate, some words/acronyms/names it's just never going to get and it's annoying swap back and forth. I prefer the freedom and flexibility to choose how to interact with your device comfortably. That said, it's all a matter of opinion and none of us are wrong for choosing the devices we do, or how we use them
Love my Open, it's really one of the best so far, I do miss the Pixel Fold passport design but don't miss the weight and lack of flat opening. Really looking to see if the Pixel 9 Pro Fold changes anything here. I do like the flat design of the Z6 Fold and made me think about it for a minute!
One thing that is crminally not empahsized is the samsung TRADE IN value. In canada the fold 6 512gb is 2700 cdn. Through carrier its -840 on a 2 yr plan. My S22U -800. So over 2 years im paying just over 1k for a brand new z fold 6. TH-camrs complain that its 100+ bux more but fail to emphasize the ridiculous trade in value is a shame.
Solid reasons for Samsung beyond the hardware design; 1. Samsung support, 2. Samsung One UI, 3. Samsung ecosystem, 4. solid water & dust resistance. As much as I was hoping for a full redesign or Ultra model, the fact is you can't beat the Z-Fold when it comes to living with it daily.
Samsung Honestly at this point just needs to make a Fold, Fold +, and Fold Ultra (All the features of the flagship…ALL included in the fold). If they don’t do this and start putting more accessories in the Ultra box they will lose market share to the Chinese manufacturers who arguably make better Foldable devices but lack Samsungs software
The Fold 6 is not the best fold in any category, but it is the Best Overall Foldable! When you need solid performance, build quality, and overall value, nothing beats the Fold 6; it is GOAT!
Love the concept of foldjng phones, my Fold 4 lasted 12 months 2 friends Fold 5's less than a year with inner screen failures. Cant do it again, just not strong or reliable enough for the costs...
I think folding phones are meant for people who are the types that put a screen protector and case on it from day one. I say this as someone who has had the fold 1,3 & 4 (now 6 as of today). I'm a huge techy, and would love to not rock a case on these beauties but I know accidents happen! While owning my previous folds, 3 of my friends bought folds after using mine. All of them broke their fold 4s within a year and went back to iPhone or Samsung slab phones. None of them took care of their phones and many of them had cracked screens on their old phones before that anyways. I know some issues are can happen regardless, but those are just things I've noticed.
I'm so torn about whether to get it or not. I had the Fold 5, then upgraded to the Pixel Fold. Now I'm considering going back and getting the Fold 6, or should I wait for the Pixel Fold 9 Pro? I love the Samsung ecosystem; I have the Watch 4 Classic and the Buds Pro. I don't have a Pixel watch or buds. I'm just not excited about the Fold 9 Pro because of the camera leaks.
Samsung can't satisfy everyone, but I'm very happy with my z fold 6. The software is second to none. A few millimeters difference isn't enough to make me switch. When a company that is the second to come out with the fold, they've had a long time to work on things. Why switch? Besides, I am more comfortable with Korea having my data than China. Also, why is everyone acting like a photographer these days. I'm good with the memories the fold 6 provides. I never look at a photo and say its not good enough quantity.
I personally love my z fold 6 and can't understand the hate over the cover screen, but I've also never tried the one plus open. Regardless, I love the way you approach the review (as in subjective vs. objective opinion). Keep it up!
Totally agree with you Shane! It is good….just not better than Oneplus Open. Oneplus has done a beautiful job but need to improve their advertising and stronger footprint in US market.
I got the ZFlip6 (hope u got the commission cuz i used ur link lol) and I decided to finally take the time to set up every little module i could on GoodLock to cater to my preferences and now this little guy is my favorite phone ever. This is coming from someone who hates tall phones, who typically doesn't like Galaxy phones, and who only really would use a Galaxy phone for Dex. This phone though has so much charm. I love using the cover display for regular tasks bc its just so cute, and GoodLock just makes the experience so much more unique. I wish I'd have taken a look at it sooner. I definitely could not justify the ZFold in my head though, because open or closed I can't stand either form factor. My wallet would also put me on a hit-list if I bought one lol
I think the flip 6 was a real winner this year. Battery life is what the phones been dying for. I'm kind of hoping they make a version like 25% larger one day, that'd be a winner ! A mega flip lol 🤣
One thing I am not sure of is which phone will last the test of time? I see so so many posts about broken inner screens on the open and they most look like the crease will crack pre mature.
such a fantastic football analogy 😂 - Z fold 4 user, see no major reason to upgrade to ZF6. Much more interested in buying the Open. Samsung were too lazy to even sort out the screen glare which is very bad, even though it's a amazing feature on the s24U. And OnePlus you can use a stylus on both screens, yet the pioneers of the s-pen do not wanna give that functionality. Heavily dislike how they try to convince customers that current galaxy AI features are a major reason to upgrade.
I understand that many foldable phone users are not impressed with the Fold 6 but I think for alot of us first time foldable phone users it is a great time to buy!!
Coming from the fold 4 I like the changes. The front screen makes a big difference, while I do wished the added at least 45 watt charging, bigger battery, better cameras. The cover display is almost perfect i don't want it too wide like the pixel maybe a tad wider would be fine. The software is what is miles ahead of the competition. I love having 2 different set ups for the cover and main display that's a huge plus
Why do people keep moaning on about the front screen. If people want a bigger front screen then get a different phone. Its that simple. Great video as always.
People will always complain about something. Cant make everyone happy. Samsung Fold 6 is awesome phone. Yes could it have a bigger battery better cameras an spen built inside. The only thing that could hold most people back maybe the cameras. Let me tell you the cameras are fine. Your pic's will look amazing trust me. If the battery will last you all day until you get home from work run some errands throw it on the charger at night while you sleep like everyone else who has a smart phone. Spen buy case that will hold it.. most people dont even it use the spen like that honestly. Enjoy what ever phone you buy people.
Like I said, it's a great phone. It's just the same phone again after being the same phone again lol. The lead they had is essentially gone and they're continuing to play it very safe which is disappointing.
Exactly Too the reply I say, they're going to keep selling the fold, so why not make improvements along the way? Why do we expect such drastic changes? We are a consumer driven society, I guess.
@megamegaO all phones are boring now that's why samsung made a folding phone. At this point how much different can they get from another. Just saying. My comment was just a comment in totality putting it in perspective
@@bcuzimfromva1 well if you REALLY want to go there a Chinese company called Royale made the first fold...Samsung just polished the design...but still asking 2k for essentially the same build from 2-5 was crominal
I traded my fold 4 in and just received my fold 6 today. I was hesitant since my fold 4 is still in mint condition, but I'm still not sold on the longevity of the inner screen. I've never had issues with my past folds but I've also not owned one for more than 2 years. Samsung trade in offers were just too damn good & I was worried my fold 4 would crap out before the Fold 7 (or Fold 6 Ultra.. If it happens) and I'd be left with a worthless paper weight. Using it for the past couple hours, I will say, it's definitely worth the upgrade! The front screen is the perfect size now in my opinion, I really don't want samsung to go with a bigger outer screen since I can use this one handed. Only wishes for me for the Fold 7 are: stylus built in, longer battery life, and an upgraded camera.
@@MrSuperLuber ..thanks for that...I was hoping the camera was better but it does have better filters and A.I. imagery. I will definitely consider upgrading now
The outer display is perfect !! The shrinkage is probably the best thing. I never find myself having to reach all over or using features to reach the other side of the screen. Pixel fold and one plus open are just ugly phones to me 😂
That 7 year thing feels more like a sales gimmick, before 7 years are up you'll have likely replaced the battery at least once and possibly other wear parts like the charging port. Plus I doubt the screen will last that long. A lot of reviewers who've had their folds for years are testing multiple devices and don't have a single device with a normal users use case. If folds had a 3 year screen warranty I'd be more likely to get one for a daily.
@@madmann6723when we didn't have it people complained about it and when we do have it people are still complaining about it. Smh. The last time I checked 7 years vs 2 years is a lot better no matter what.
There is more to Samsung software than just split screen. Dex, routines, good lock, etc all make up for that gap widening quite a bit. Add in the ability to walk into a store for support vs having to send it off for a month, makes the gap wider… I do like the OnePlus open, but that camera bump destroys the form fator. It makes it too top heavy, very wobbly on a table, and it’s just “in your face” big. I much prefer the pixel fold camera bump, but at least Samsung is way more subtle with it. Your summary at the end is pretty accurate. It’s a good, solid phone. It’s reached its most polished form. Maybe Samsung ships the rumored “ultra” that has all the other things people seem to want.
You may like Samsungs software experience more than OnePlus. But can you please honestly explain how it "blows it out of the water"? In what ways is it better to a degree that it blows it out of the water other than One UI being your preferred software?
I keep hearing this, but I don't find that to be my experience. What exactly is it that Sammy software does way better? Multitasking is better on open.
@@Markus56165 I 💯 agree... though I prefer OneUI, there really isn't anything major it can do that OnePlus cannot. And I would say speed and smoothness are equal between the two as well.
If you've used the Open, you'd know that's not the case. The software is very comparable to Samsung's Fold series, and this is coming from a guy who bought the folds 2, 3, and 4 on day one. Sure, it may not have local AI, it may not have DEX, but the overall day-to-day usage is miles better because of the hardware. There's even some features on the Open that Samsung has yet to implement.
I think the point is not to use the outer screen on a phone with two-finger typing. The cover screen should be used strictly for one-handed use because if you can use two hands, you should just open it up. Thats the vision samsung is going for.
I don't think that's their vision. I think they started out making a foldable that opened into a larger screen that maintained an aspect ratio that would allow most apps to work well out of the box and the result was that the cover display was super narrow and people have been thinking up reasons why that was secretly intentional ever since.
To the reply of your comment I say, don't underestimate their intentions. They would have changed it by now. Software has caught up for folding phones. They are probably looking for the sweet spot.
Damn that Superbowl analogy was spot on man. Felt it to my core. Samsung already has arguably the best software when it comes to foldables. We just need the hardware to match it
I Agree with you on many points. The only thing that I didn’t like about the one plus fold is that it was harder to hold and that’s when i realized the narrow front screen has advantages. On the other hand, the galaxy fold 3 that i had was too narrow so I think the fold 6 outer screen is good middle ground.
Question for you. still using surface duo one and i do lots of notetaking. In your experience with the other (softer screen) foldables would you recommend these devices for note-takers? how has the stylus been? accurate? Did you use the oppo pen on the OP Open as well? thanks
Still not sold, comparing next to my 24 ultra that is superior in every way except internet screen size makes it hard to choose. I think I'll be sending mine back.
Yup the cover display is the primary reason why I switched to the OnePlus Open myself back in January. I was still rocking a 3+-year-old Z Fold2 and by the time I was ready to upgrade, I was almost NEVER using the front display for anything because of how uncomfortably narrow it was, so when I wanted to upgrade in January, the Fold5, with the same dimensions as the 2, was out of the question, so either I could wait for the 6 or go with an alternative. Initially, I wanted the HONOR Magic V2, but there wasn't an international version at the time, so I went with the Open and I've loved it ever since!
The tall/narrow design of the Z fold 6 I actually enjoy and prefer over the candy-bar shaped Pixel Fold. I like the one-handed useability of it and if I want more screen I just open it up. I understand why some people prefer a wider front display for a folding phone but honestly I have never had the urge to need a wider outer display since the inner display gets that done for me. And this is coming from a heavier set guy with large hands haha
Im a long time samsung user. I started from a S4, to a S7 Edge, to a S10+, so an S22 Ultra but then felt like trying out the iphone 15 pro (mainly cause USB-C) and for some reason really loved it and hated it. I recently upgraded from my 15 pro to the Fold 6 (which i currently have in my hand) but honestly to god i dont really like it tbh and i dont know why lol. I will say its probably to do with the main cover display being to small for me which is weird cause ive been wanting to try a more narrow phone. The flipping mechanism is super cool but i think its a bit much for me and would feel much better off with my S22 Ultra or iphone 15 pro. All in all I think I might've accidentally converted myself to an iphone user unexpectedly but im going to test out my Fold 6 more today. I still got 10 days to return it which is good tbh. Maybe Folding phones just aren't for me which is okay.
I think for you if you're gonna do foldables start with something like the Pixel Fold or OPO. The Z Fold is a bigger change from a regular candy bar phone. I too got the S22U but didn't make the mistake of getting the iPhone 15 Pro 😅. I'm currently using the Fold and love it but it's too heavy and it's missing some multitasking features that I love like floating apps. I like the Fold for it's features as well not now I'm ready for the Z Fold 6 as I believe the front display is finally wide enough for me to use and I waited long enough 😊.
I think people like new more then refined now a days (outside of apple) and i am in the other camp. I love the thinner screen for one handed use personally so going the other direction would be devastating to me because when i pick up a normal sized slab phone i don't like the form factor anymore. This Thin candy bar that opens to be huge is just the perfect ying and yang for me. I used the pixel fold and it was nice but everything required a second hand for me like texting which i didnt care for it over time. I am sure in the end they will cave and you will win but I will remember my new Z fold 6 fondly as i did the 5,4 and 3.
I believe that's where the antenna is. Historically, sometimes different regions have different antennas and antenna placements on some phones, so if you're outside the US maybe that's why?
I have used a Z Fold since Z Fold3 and have a Z Fold6 now. And let me just tell you that Samsung knows EXACTLY what they are doing when it comes to aspect ratios on their screens. Samsung is simply making sure that anyone who buy a Z Fold gets the best Fold experience possible. Samsung knows very well that if they make the front screen to good to use, its users will not use the inner screen much and then feel like they have wasted a whole lot of of money on a Fold just to use it as a normal candy bar phone instead. This is the fact and Samsung knows it will happen if they make the front screen like a normal smartphone. Not only that, but most of us are going the Fold way to EXACTLY get away from a normal candy bar smartphone. So, a fold being a fold and not just another super expensive candy bar smartphone, is something we praise HIGHLY. The front screen should be for the basic stuffs and the rest for the inner screen. And on top of that, the software experience Samsung have is lightyears ahead of the others software experiences. And this is true even if OnePlus Open have some few features that is a bit better in my opinion. When it comes to overall software experience, nothing comes close to what Samsung offers. I'm super happy that Samsung goes this way. Samsung should focus on getting better cameras, bigger batteries, making the inner and front screen on future folds bigger without touching the aspect ratios on them. And to make a slot for an S Pen inside the fold.
You have the best videos. I picked up my first Z fold 6 today and its a beauty. I used the pixel fold and loved it but eventually i got tired pf the weight. I hope i stick with it long term.
Coming from the fold 3, 4 and 5, I think Samsung nailed the outer screen size with the 6. It's finally wide enough to type on comfortably, and if it was any wider it would sort of defeat the purpose of it being a foldable to begin with.
Great points! As a dual screen/foldable user since 2020 (Surface Duo gang), it's a shame that Samsung fans feel the need to invalidate your experience with foldables even though you are coming at it with very logical critiques. I have an Honor V Purse now (imported into the US) and in many ways it is leagues above the Fold 6 (in other ways not so much) and was able to get it for
Thank you. No apologies are needed for an honest review from someone who has actually used both phones and knows what they're talking about. I have had the z fold 2, 3, 4, 5 and ordered the z fold6. I will seriously start looking at the Oneplus for future upgrades from now on.
Thank you for this video. An absolute must watch for Samsung. Still I'm a bit puzzled. Oneplus is supposed to have a larger screen and a higher resolution but: 1. The cover screen fits more content on Fold6. Fold6 keyboard takes up less vertical space compared to OnePlus. Blacks look blueish and washed out on OnePlus but this may be due to light reflection. 5:46 2. Both phones have almost identical height 153,5mm (Fold) vs 153,4mm (OP). 0,1 mm difference. But Onepluses inner screen is so noticeably smaller than Fold's. Visually around 2 mm. 6:30 3. Fold's inner screen fits more content (vertically). Oneplus hides the top status bar in the split view and still fits less content. It's a shame. 11:27 , 12:05 4. Info from a different review: Fold's performance drops by half after 2 minutes of heavy load or in a hot environment. Strangely this includes screen brightness. In a hot sunny environment (Spain) when you need those nits, the screen goes dimmer because of heat and throttling. Not sure how Oneplus performs in the same environment. I'd love to see a comparison between Fold6 and Oneplus in terms of how much content fits on the screen in typical apps: Facebook/Instagram, Google drive, some app for reading, office app (sheets, docs), some web pages like wikipedia, etc.
@@megamegaO I prefer OnePlus software over Pixel software. Plus I never use my phones for that long. If I did, I would be rocking the iPhone 8 right now, which I am not.
@@NateisJung It's all good. Just throwing it out there. I prefer the google software myself, and ofc you wont be using it for 7 years, but unless you're loaded you aint gonna get a new fold every year.
They NEED to release a Fold Ultra, SOON. I LOVE the narrow cover display, but samsung are missing out on so many other people picking up their phones, and ultimately Foldables, because they insist on ONLY the narrow version. Don't get me wrong, I'll still be staying with the narrow cover display if/when they FINALLY release a Fold Ultra with a bigger cover display, but doesn't mean that other peoples' opinions are invalid just because *I* like the narrow cover display
Excellent video agree 💯 percent. This is why I could not purchase the Z Fold 6. I went with the vivo x fold 3 pro instead which has more of a slightly slimmer 24ultra form factor factor. The form factor is just far better for day to say use.
100% agree. This is why I canceled my pre-order and went with the Magic V3 instead. 0.3mm wider so it's now 6cm while the V3 is 6.6cm and feels like a candy bar phone when closed. Samsung is milking their Foldable customers and I'm sick of it. This is coming from a long time Samsung user (since the S2)
Totally get where you are going with in this story. Honestly. If the width was fixed , a better camera en faster charging speeds were there. This was a no-contest phone for everyone. The S-pen makes it a way more complete experience and the freedom with the seperate outer and inner display with the software is a big win. Where Samsung sleeps and makes mistakes with the hardware, I think the competition just simply needs to fix these big two software downsides and they are on par (and maybe shrink all those big bezels). And with the review. Just be honest. You can always rank the folds at the end :)
Thank you for your honest review, I got the Fold 4 based on your reviews 2 years ago. I still got the Fold 6 due to some apps for work that I use daily. Oneplus phones are not allowed to be used because it's a Chinese based company. And if I'm really honest...I want a pink phone, never had one until now. Oh, life long Bears fan...sometimes you have to wait for the company to really take a chance. Or get SUPER lucky. We will see this year. 😂
IT IS THE WRONG FORM FACTOR! The idea is to have a great phone that folds out to a great little tablet. This phone does neither. The front is too narrow & then it opens up to a square. I am so disappointed because I had everything lined up this year to buy the fold 6, I really thought they were going to nail it but they just don’t get it. I mainly use my phone/tablet for entertainment, TH-cam, Netflix, Xbox Gamepass. I have now given up hope on the Fold, it will never be what I want. What amazes me is Samsung keep saying fold phones are the future but the Z Fold 6 is just a base S22 with a snapdragon 3 that folds out for $2000.
Open wins hands down. It's even smoother and open canvas is top tier. Awesome battery life, and charges super fast. I came from Fold 4. You don't even see or feel the crease on the Open. Plus with the wider front screen, it really does feel like you're using 2 different devices. (Phone + tablet). The only thing Samsung has over the One Plus is timely security updates, Dex and wireless charging. Samsung also takes better pictures. Open wins in video quality. Open even has more ram (16gb) at default and speakers are way louder. Come on now! You can enlarge folders on Oxygen OS and open apps without even opening the folder. It just makes sense! One Plus just needs to enable u to open multiple apps as floating windows like Samsung and we're good all the way. Definitely looking forward to the Open 2 nxt year.
Really good 72rh review. to me the Fold 6 was interesting, and they offered really good trade in for my Pixel 8 Pro ($700). But I just couldn't do it, it would be my first folding phone, but a little excessive for what I use my phone for :) Maybe Fold 7 / Pixel Fold 3 / OnePlus Open 2 i'll consider more.
I really hope the people clamoring for Samsung to make the folds wider don't get what they want, _unless_ they get it through Samsung making two models. I basically never use the outer display with more than one hand - there are edge cases where I have two hands available but don't want to open it up (e.g. I need to be ready to put it away at a moment's notice), but those are just that - edge cases. 99% of the time I'm holding a closed Z Fold, it's because I'm using it in one hand. In one hand, a narrow display is - easier to hold - easier to swipe type on Plus it also fits easier in pockets, and allows for some semblance of portrait/landscape orientation. The form factor is one of only a few things the Z Fold has going for it over the other folds.
Dropped my One plus open from the stairs down 2 floors, first i thought it survived nog damage outside screen worked, when opend one side of the screen was not working 😢. Send it for repair too one plus.
5:16 You're absolutely right, it is still too narrow. Apparently Samsung has developed a fear for normal phone width for their foldable. How long would that fear last? I don't know, but for now they are quite hesitant to increase the width of the outer display to a typical phone dimension on their foldable. 5:26 there's no need to adjust when you got better options such as the OnePlus Open or the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4, and soon to be the Google Pixel 9 Pro fold. 6:31 The cheaper option is better, who wouldn't love that bargain. 10:46 Anything that charges above fifty minutes in this modern era is on the low tier side of things, it's far from premium. Some people might want their phone to charge in less than forty minutes, but I'll try to be reasonable with the overall charging speed and make it fifty minutes.
I really love the build and look of the Fold (actually better than the Open) and the IP ratings, but there's just so much on my wishlist before I'd switch from the Open, to anything else for that matter. 1. multitasking like the Open, the biggest thing. 2. Wider display 3. Actual Fast charging 4. A competitive price. Spending over 500$ more for the same storage and all those things missing is quite a trade off I can't justify. You could argue the trade-in makes it competitive. I just checked, they advertise a 1200$ trade-in credit, but anything other than Apple, Google, or Samsung is a max 300$, including the Open. OnePlus on the other hand, still offers 750$ for the Fold 5 plus the 200$ bonus credit.
I appreciate the video ! I was going to trade in my fold 5 (in Canada - terrible trade in value) for a fold 6 , but im definitely holding off. Yes, i guess, stuff has changed to make people happy, but I've also used the Open , Pixel Fold and even the Honor Magic V2 , the upgrades were kind of shite in that relative space. I appreciate the honesty ! And even with you're affiliate link contributions you seem to be able to give a pretty darn honest first impression - especially coming from a fold 4 (which i think was actually quite great at the time !)
Can you do a video on what it takes to use one plus open or viveo x fold in the us? Is it as simple as just changing the sim? I want a bigger screen as well but want to make sure you can use those phones on the US markets
You're just switching SIMs on both, the only thing is with phones not meant for the US you might be missing some cell bands so your service will suffer in some areas. OnePlus is fine because it's meant for the US market.
Had the Z Fold 6 for 24hrs, now headed back ro Samsung. It didn't have enough real world advantages over my Z Fold 4 for the money. Waiting to see what the Pixel 9 Fold has to offer
Great vid, I love your honest opinion. I was afraid that Samsung's Z Fold 6 would be a game changer, but I'm quite happy that the OPO is still holding up, I can't wait to see the OPO 2!!
one unique thing the Folds series is that you can have two separate wall papers for the cover and inner screens, they act as two separate screens rather than it being all integrated. Can the Open do that? that isn't sarcasm lol just an general question since you have them both.
3rd time watching this video. So good! I love your honesty, man. I enjoy my Z Fold 6 but if the pixel fold 1 was 45g lighter, it would be my perfect phone. Right now i am really enjoying the Samsung experience.
Appreciate your honesty brother
That narrow and tall front screen definitely sucks and that's one of the reasons I still haven't upgraded from my Duo 2 just yet. Looks like the One Plus Fold will probably be my best bet. Looking forward for your next video on the Z Fold.
Are you going to get the pixel fold pro 9? Im about to get a new phone, but im holding off because there are so many phones coming out right now.
de😢r🎉😅
This why I follow you bro you're honest and not a cash grabbing reviewer I will remain loyal to your channel for this reason
I may be in the minority that likes the thinner outer display. It feels nice holding in one hand and making calls. It's also great in a fast-paced environment when you have to pull it out and type fast with one hand. I work in a hospital.
Typing on the fold makes me want to off myself
you're not the sale numbers doesn't lie most people doesn't want a wider phone .
I’m with you there, as an IT guy I like the thinner form also take a lot of calls too.
I'm a nurse and I much prefer the pixel folds wider outer display
You never have apologize for being too positive or too negative or go out of the way explaining yourself. That INCLUDES THE FULL REVIEW. Yor honestly about how and why you truly feel about something is all you ever need to present to people. Negative reviews are needed and important, especially in the tech space.
I got the phone despite the negative feedback and i must say, i was pleasantly surprised. I think this phone is well balanced in so many aspects.
To me, it's about balancing the outer and inner display so both are at the maximum utility, which for me the Z Fold does better than the OnePlus Open:
- Better one handed ratio
- Inner screen more rectangular which makes it have less bars for most video content.
So true, i agree on you
nailed it brother
As a Saints fan, that 9-7 analogy hit me like a ton of bricks lol
I absolutely loved this 😂
I came from the 4.
I like the thinner screen, a lot of apps are just scrolling and one hand use is great for those. It also makes it more pocketable which is important to me. Outside the form factor the software is what makes a difference in daily use and Samsungs multitasking software is night and day to the others.
To me software is the most important part.
But that camera should have been better. I saw the 24 ultra zoom feature vs the z fold 6 and the galaxy 24 ultra blew it out of the water
@@ZubinSaxena
1. for me going back from the home instead of just dragging is a lot slower
6. Spen
7. More apps with flex mode
I have a fold 4 and I'm still not upgrading the updates are just too incremental. I'm stuck with this until I pay it off 🙄
Why do people want a screen that requires 2 handed use on the front? The front screen is for quick one handed actions. Even my S23 plus is too wide to comfortably use 1 handed.
Because we want the true option of using the folding screen. A close to normal for day to day and a inner screen for heavy lifting.
I think a more productive question to ask would be why do people want a wider cover display. Rather framing it as people asking for something that's bad, of you genuinely ask why people want the thing they want you'll probably get good answers.
Why don't you get that the front screen is supposed to be for regular phone use NOT quick one handed actions.
Shup@@shanecraigtech
Because we dont have childrens hands . And unfolding your phone to reply to messages is inconvenient
I have the fold 5. I love it just as much as when i first got it. I am loving the more square design of the fold 6 and the fact its slightly thinner but im just still in shock they havent really changed the camera 😅😅
I'm right there with you. You going to upgrade?
Same here!
But I'm not wasting any more money to upgrade this year. Maybe I'll upgrade then fold 7-8 comes out.
@gardyisthetrillest2690 I've thought about it but hmmmmm I might wait until fold 7 hopefully the cameras are improved by then lol
@Mickname-n6w same here I think I'm going to wait for fold 7 or 8 hopefully there is s series cameras on the folds by then. I do love Samsung but they need to up their game lol
I like the narrow screen
I've been using Android phones since the beginning. To watch people type with 2 thumbs is frustrating when you can swipe. I personally like the outer screen on the Fold so I can use it one handed. Can't wait for your review video. Keep up the great job
Swipe still works comfortably one handed on the Open, and your thumb can reach fully across it. Plus, sometimes swipe isn't accurate, some words/acronyms/names it's just never going to get and it's annoying swap back and forth.
I prefer the freedom and flexibility to choose how to interact with your device comfortably. That said, it's all a matter of opinion and none of us are wrong for choosing the devices we do, or how we use them
I type with 2 thumbs on Fold 6 cover screen 😅 I don't like swipe and my thumbs aren't that long, sue me lol
Finally, someone doesn't hold the drums for Samsung , my thanks and respect.
I'm holding off on swapping to the one plus open from my pixel fold until I see how much the pixel 9 pro fold weighs
@@paterpater100 it's a good plan. From what I been seeing on the leaks, the next Fold looks to be a lot similar to the Open in terms of design.
What is the best and your favorite foldable with videoout/desktop mode?
Lol... Good trick question.
The best thing about it is that the corners doesn´t have such a radius, a lot more boxy than the 9 Pro Fold seems to be.
Totally agree
In that case I'd rather get the fold 5 for cheaper with the same benefits
Samsung Honestly at this point just needs to make a Fold, Fold +, and Fold Ultra (All the features of the flagship…ALL included in the fold). If they don’t do this and start putting more accessories in the Ultra box they will lose market share to the Chinese manufacturers who arguably make better Foldable devices but lack Samsungs software
@@TheBlackShinigami theyll lose more money making 3 models. not enough people are buying folds and flips yet. would be nice tho
@@megamegaO trade in deal beats buying a fold 5
I am loving my zfold 6.
There's a lot to love!
Me too
@@ajac4093 yes great phone but you would had also loved any fold that is 4 and 5 lol
Same
Just got mine and I'm loving it so far.
Coming from the s9+, I'd say im pretty happy with mine lol
Love my z fold 6 way better to me than the z fold 5 wider outer screen is perfect
Everything you said is absolutely what it is. In my opinion, there's nothing more to review
How do you get the Google home widget for OnePlus open? I have the app installed but I do not see that option under widgets
such a fantastic football analogy 😂 - Z fold 4 user, see no major reason to upgrade to ZF6.
I love the new AI features.
I understand that many foldable phone users are not impressed with the Fold 6 but I think for alot of us first time foldable phone users it is a great time to buy!!
Definitely true
Shane, how long does the battery last compared to the oneplus open?
Very similar, Open might be slightly better
@@shanecraigtech Thanks for replying Shane! Love your content, keep it going!

Do your screen open all the way up? if so is it flat? Mine do not seems to open all the way.
Exactly
Too the reply I say, they're going to keep selling the fold, so why not make improvements along the way? Why do we expect such drastic changes? We are a consumer driven society, I guess.
You clearly didn't watch the video. Essentially it's a fine phone...but boring.😊
I have a z fold 4 and with the software updates i dont know about switching to the 6.....woukd it really be different?
The outer display is perfect !! The shrinkage is probably the best thing. I never find myself having to reach all over or using features to reach the other side of the screen.
Pixel fold and one plus open are just ugly phones to me 😂
Don't forget 7 years of update

Add in the ability to walk into a store for support vs having to send it off for a month, makes the gap wider…
I do like the OnePlus open, but that camera bump destroys the form fator.
For me Good Lock primarily fixes things I don't like about One UI, Dex and Routines are both cool, but I end up never using either lol.
I feel like the obvious answer to "Why Would I?" is the software experience blows the OnePlus and Pixel out of the water. Samsung knows that.
Well i agree the software experience is better on the fold 6. My One Plus Open kept crashing with my games, with my work, and nothing beats Dex.

Maybe thinner and slightly smaller is what separate the zfold from the rest 🤔
@@victor9 worse battery , heavier , worse camera , slow charging . There is hell alot more that separates zfolds lol
It is. I switched from the fold 2, and it's just about perfect now.
Question for you. still using surface duo one and i do lots of notetaking. In your experience with the other (softer screen) foldables would you recommend these devices for note-takers? how has the stylus been? accurate? Did you use the oppo pen on the OP Open as well? thanks
How do you get the google home controls on your home screen?
Still not sold, comparing next to my 24 ultra that is superior in every way except internet screen size makes it hard to choose. I think I'll be sending mine back.
Do you use only your back vase for your folding phones, if so why?
Just experimenting with it on this case. The front bit sucks lol. The part near the hinge moves around and drives me crazy.
Totally agree. Even texting on the inner screen with the split keyboard works well, but I use the outer screen, too.
No one has to lose, we can have 2 versions as I am sure we will in a few years. A fold and a fold plus (or Max or ultra or whatever 😅)
3:38 what is that long indent thing above the volume keys to the right of the sim tray? Mine doesnt have that?
I believe that's where the antenna is. Historically, sometimes different regions have different antennas and antenna placements on some phones, so if you're outside the US maybe that's why?
Will the new Pixel 9 Fold have similar software implementations to the OnePlus Open?
Great review
Out of interest, how do decide day to day which phone to use ?
Gut feeling lol
We're do u get the wallpaper for OnePlus open ?
Probably backdrops
I have the same wallpaper on my open. The backdrops app is also where I found it.
You have the best videos. I picked up my first Z fold 6 today and its a beauty. I used the pixel fold and loved it but eventually i got tired pf the weight. I hope i stick with it long term.
You are right. The Fold 6 in a vacuum is more impressive. When you compare it to its competitors it starts to fall short.
I've got the fold 3 and have that issue with the keyboard. Now I need to check out the Pixel
Thank you for this video. An absolute must watch for Samsung.
Still I'm a bit puzzled. Oneplus is supposed to have a larger screen and a higher resolution but:
1. The cover screen fits more content on Fold6. Fold6 keyboard takes up less vertical space compared to OnePlus. Blacks look blueish and washed out on OnePlus but this may be due to light reflection. 5:46
2. Both phones have almost identical height 153,5mm (Fold) vs 153,4mm (OP). 0,1 mm difference. But Onepluses inner screen is so noticeably smaller than Fold's. Visually around 2 mm. 6:30
3. Fold's inner screen fits more content (vertically). Oneplus hides the top status bar in the split view and still fits less content. It's a shame. 11:27 , 12:05
I'm definitely one of the ones that LOVES this form factor. I love how it's not a full sized slab phone.
Good honest review
I currently have the Z Fold 5. Looking forward to the next Open coming out so I can switch to it.
@@NateisJung bro I just ditched my fold 5 for open and I swear I am thanking that I didn't get the fold 6.
I mean, might as well get the Google 9 Pro Fold in that case...better update/security....and 7 years of support. Unless youre really into the open.
Is that a Imarksman desk pad?
Just some random pad from amazon
Good video. I just received my Fold 6 yesterday. Today the case should be arriving. I'm excited to get it.
How did you make the at a glance widget larger on screen?
Odd that there is no mention of the S Pen which is what differentiates it from the others in a positive manner
I'm not the guy to evaluate the s pen
I mostly agree with your review, but everyone bangs on about charging speeds, but faster charging degrades battery life more quickly
How large (in mm width) is the front screen of the Fold 6 VS Oneplus Open VS Honor Magic V2?
Wasn't convinced to upgrade to the fold 6 from the 5. Going to wait until the 7 or even better, the One Plus Open 2 comes out
IT IS THE WRONG FORM FACTOR!
Buy something else
In one hand, a narrow display is
- easier to hold
- easier to swipe type on
Plus it also fits easier in pockets, and allows for some semblance of portrait/landscape orientation.
The form factor is one of only a few things the Z Fold has going for it over the other folds.
Dropped my One plus open from the stairs down 2 floors, first i thought it survived nog damage outside screen worked, when opend one side of the screen was not working 😢. Send it for repair too one plus.
Would be interested to hear what their support is like.
They send me address where I can send the phone for repair, so good for now
5:16 You're absolutely right, it is still too narrow.
10:04 I have to ask - is that a picture of Vermont?
Tennessee
Great analogies. I'm first time fold user with the fold 6. Love it but all your arguments are very valid
I enjoy this phone in hand. This is my first fold and I enjoy the smaller screen for once. I do have big hands but the phone feels so right.
one unique thing the Folds series is that you can have two separate wall papers for the cover and inner screens, they act as two separate screens rather than it being all integrated. Can the Open do that? that isn't sarcasm lol just an general question since you have them both.
Open can do two different wallpapers
@@shanecraigtechI'm surprised there's not really any videos online showing this on the one plus open 😮
3rd time watching this video. So good! I love your honesty, man. I enjoy my Z Fold 6 but if the pixel fold 1 was 45g lighter, it would be my perfect phone. Right now i am really enjoying the Samsung experience.
Wow, thank you!
I share your views! Btw congrats on your TH-cam channel growing! Before you know it, you’ll be at 100k! 🙌🏻
