Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst and Bonnie Hunt star in this phenomenal adaptation of the award-winning children's book. When young Alan Parrish discovers a mysterious board game, he doesn't realize its unimaginable powers, until he is magically transported before the startled eyes of his friend, Sarah, into the untamed jungles of JUMANJI! There he remains for 26 years until he is freed from the game's spell by two unsuspecting children. Now a grown man, Alan (Williams) reunites with Sarah (Hunt)and together with Judy (Kirsten Dunst) and Peter (Bradley Pierce) tries to outwit the game's powerful forces in this imaginative adventure that combines breathtaking special effects with an enchanting mixture of comedy, magic and thrills.
28 years later and I still love the fact they had the Van Pelt character let out such a girly scream despite being a scary bad guy lol
yas
Wouldn’t be surprised if that was Jonathan’s idea.
One of the best scenes in the movie lol
"It sounds like something out of the Twilight Zone but it's true!"
Knows nothing about the world he is in, so references a show from the 60s and it lands perfect.
That's amazing writing.
Do your research before you post a ridiculous comment. in the film alan was sucked into the game in 1969. So he had obviously seen the twilight zone and probably very recently
@@fgcpeak9591 You're misunderstanding that 'ridiculous' comment. They're praising the movie writers (or possibly RW's improv) for recognizing that Alan's cultural touchstones would all be from his childhood in the 60s. "Knows nothing about the world he is in (the world in 1995), so references a show from the 60s and it lands perfect."
So maybe double check what you're reading before you insult somebody.
@@oftheother obviously you have no concept of what "insult" means. I blame your non existent education
@@fgcpeak9591 Yipes. You really are something else. I recommend some serious self-reflection and time offline.
@@fgcpeak9591 it ain't that deep bro, just choose your words in a less offensive manner next time.
Van Pelt is an interesting character as he knows he is part of a game and it never results in any questions by him.
he has a role. the game is magic. why would he question his purpose?
The mythology behind the board game is never explained, all we know is that it was created a very long time ago & is impervious to physical damage
@@Bingo_the_Pug Indeed. That is what I find most interesting. He knows he is part of something that isn't part of the "real world" and yet even when he enters the real world he never questions his program to hunt down whoever rolled the dice. It's a cool concept.
According to Jumanji: TAS, Van Pelt's whole purpose is to hunt everything that dwells/enters Jumanji. However, if he were to die somehow, the person responsible would become Jumanji's new big game hunter as there must always be a hunter.
@@jasonchandler9777holy shit! That is interesting 😳 guess this means that Van Pelt was once an actual person in the real world and played the game before as well...🤯
You ever notice that this guy was the same guy as his father
It's almost as if the whole point of the movie was giving Alan the courage to face his father...
Yes. I’m surprised how many people never noticed it… I mean, his face is like right there. It’s like people are still in preschool or whatever lol 😂
It is heavily disguised with makeup and beard, I can see why they never recognized him
I noticed that since, I’m older enough.
@@123RADIOactive It was even worse for my dad. For some reason I could never fathom he actually thought Van Pelt was animatronic in keeping with the rest of the animals that came out of the game.
That yell when he's in the boat cracks me up every time

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Great ringtone
What did he say at 3:48?
I never realized as a kid that Van Pelt was also Mr. Parrish (the actor)
Perhaps it symbolized a manifestation of Alan's father as an antagonist
I never did either but that's probably exactly what the movie's going for. I never read the book the film is based on, but Id say it's a good theory
More like his fear of his father in general.
Perhaps a manifestation of his father, in a way, but definitely even Billy Jessup somehow. I always thought of Van Pelt as an adult version of Billy Jessup chasing Alan in the jungle realm of Jumanji for that long and more when coming out of the game/realm of Jumanji.
That dude Robin Williams was the best actor of all time. Sad he's not around anymore. R.I.P. Legend.

So much talent and kindness in that man, RIP indeed to Robin.

Mary Jane just blinded Kraven the hunter.
Now that you mentioned it, I can kinda see Jonathan Hyde as Kraven the Hunter in Tobey Maguire Spider-Man's universe.

When I was a kid I definitely watched this movie before Spider-Man, I had no memory whatsoever of the young actress being Kirsten Dunst...
It never clicked with me either. In this movie her brother's name is Peter. In Spider-Man her love interest is named Peter too. I think there were giant spiders in Jumanji too.

I certainly hope that the scanner used was a normal light, not a laser, because in real life that could destroy the eyes, and I don't think the actors' contracts include a promise to destroy the actor's eyesight.
The film itself again. Well it's a character in a game, so it can't be damaged, even by a laser price scanner, as someone suggested earlier.

One of a handful of movies that never stop being funny no matter how many times I see it.
That shelf of paint crashing down on him would have killed him. That was probably over 1000 pounds of paint landing on him and burying him. It would have killed him. Especially being buried with all those cans of paint. He would have suffocated. The worst he would have been crushed. How could a person survive that?
There were also 3 monkeys driving a motorcycle at one point. Sometimes to enjoy a movie it’s good to suspend your sense of disbelief.
Fuckin a man I mean animals summoned from a board game giant spiders a boy turning into a monkey man and your getting technical with a paint shelf being fatal
Maybe being a part of the game he has the ability to be indestructible out of the game to stop them all from finishing the game.
He's a manifestation of the game and not "alive" in a sense the same way people are. It's almost like an actual video game character being dropped in the real world, but they retain their traits as a video game character.
I'ts just movie magic and I bet those cans where empty.
3:48 - what did he say? "haka haka haka?"
I think that’s the actor just spurting out gibberish. Some actors in PG rated movies do this as a substitute for curse words. For example, Joe Pesci did this in Home Alone 1 and 2.
