These guys really need to watch some videos on game design. You give the player a giant magnet weapon, and rarely have it be useful in your puzzles. And you have to literally paint arrows are place images all around the place, just for the player to know what they’re meant to do, and even then, it’s still very easy to get lost. These things are very simple, have enemies clearly break open the path forward once a player finishes your puzzle, use light sources to subtlety inform the player how to progress, use landmarks if it’s a more open area, and if you aren’t going to reward the player for exploring a non-progress path, then either add a reward, or make it do they can’t progress. Like, I had to use noclip several times, so that I could see where I was meant to go, and even then, sometimes I was still lost. And then I’d look up videos, only to realize that I wasn’t supposed to SHOOT the thing you put a target sign on, I was supposed to throw something at it. And then later on, I’m meant to open several giant doors, and I’m allowed to open doors to go around the door I need to open, so logically, I assume I must need to do something behind the door to open it. Nope. Completely pointless. You allowed me to find something in relation to my objective, that was completely pointless, and I wound up wasting 5 minutes trying to figure out how to progress, before realizing that, no, it was actually a floor panel on the other side of the room that you pointed at with arrows, completely ruining the idea that this is a real space.

Honestly, I think this is the best mod i've played. It's well written, lore friendly, and shows a lot of how the Combine works and their logistics. A small detail is that City 545 is named so, because during Soviet times, there was a factory there that produced military equipment and ammo, (Factory 545 - Chkalov, Chkalov Oblast, Russia.) as they stamp numbers on equipment to determine where the product was produced. So whoever wrote the story really did their homework. (This is not explained in the Mod but i happen to know this as a history nerd) There is a scene where you infiltrate a Nexus and take it over, and during that you can see the Combines, instead of storming in mindlessly, are sieging and surrounding the buildings with APCs, a helicopter, two fire trucks and an armoured ambulance. You get to see so much cool Combine stuff that is very much in tone with Half Life Alyx, even new variants and uniforms like the Combine pilot. This really feels like a mix between Half Life 2 and Alyx.
Killing Roki at the end kinda feels wrong imho, interesting that in previous mod from same authors, "Lambda" resistance was kinda bad too. This actually fits his the Citadel was not ye finished nor was suppression field active yet till it was. Yeah the suppression field is on but the mod takes an idea that it doesn't cover the entire planet and there are some isolated pockets on earth that it doesn't cover. Which honestly makes sense imo at least.
It is poorly translated but it mentions that the "alien radiation", which might be the suppression field, implied to not be able to cover the entire area, allowing some people to procreate.
@@dauzlee2827 i don't get the Citadel tho, can Combine teleport Citadels now? What i think that is, maybe it takes some stuff from some game called "Lambda Wars" where your base has a small Citadel, also wouldn't Overwatch use their main troops instead of having localized combine troops? EP2 kinda took place in outlands and just had standard overwatch troops
Jesus Rad your pretty quick to release a review for this mod, i have played through it myself like a day or two ago Update: after watching this video i have to agree with all of the things you had to say about this mod, great video Rad!
I personally didn't get stuck or banged my head at a wall at any puzzle, but then again, I've played so many hl2 mods and maps that I developed an "automatic mode" when dealing with source puzzles lol. Edit: Nevermind. That puzzle from 16:35 was bullshit haha.
This mod has a lot of cool ideas, like the beginning section where you look through a peephole in the door to see the amount of enemies in the next section, or some of the puzzles involving physics. They are just not very polished, and sometimes it's not super clear what you're supposed to be doing. I wish they took their time to flesh out those aspects of the mod. But it's otherwise very well made
A bit brighter and more colorful, despite the oppressive nature of the Combine structure. I'm glad to see this kind of map style that brings some vibrancy and liveliness to the setting.
I really like the idea of alternative endings in Half-Life games or mods. We haven't really seen that stuff after the first Half-Life itself, which I understand, because making a potential sequel can be a lot harder then.
Having played this recently, I think they updated it to make the gunner section on the plane less infuriating. Maybe they changed the hitboxes, but I was able to do it first try.
Really enjoy your videos! They inspired me to try and import Half Life 2's map into this new game engine called Enfusion engine. Been able to port in some test maps so far, only figuring out the collisions settings.
i had no idea that you had to throw stuff at those electrical box things, i just noclipped instead. i feel so stupid now lmao, it's such an obvious solution
This mod REALLY reminded me of Snowdrop Escape in terms of like aesthetics and certain gameplay choices. Thought it was great overall with like some minor pacing problems, plus getting all the achievements was a swell-ter time
I think the best things about this mod are mainly the environments and designs of NPC's and Weaponry. My only issues are mainly the reused pain and death voicelines for the characters, the weapons being weak in many situations [Although the Sniper's very decent] For example, there is so much inspiration taken from the beta during the wasteland sections. The bullsquids being close to the bridge canals. The Antlions have a sandy design and even have the Red Antlion from the beta screenshots are there for variety. The Magnet Gun having the Beta Design was an ultimately nice choice too. And I think the MP7 might've been inspired by the beta SMG based on the colours and the shape of it somewhat. Overall, I agree with a lot of what you say. Swelter's a pretty good mod and if not the best in terms of gunplay and gameplay. I'd say what saves it are the visuals and designs in it.
Stuff I'd like to clarify a year too late, is the sickness is due to the concussion you get at the start of the game, and the reason the two resistances are at war is that the Lambda resistance want to unite their resistances to help fight against the combine, and the other just wants to be left in piece to live a normal life and reproduce when possible
Anyway awesome video man, there was another youruber takking about this mod i tried and with wich i had a couple of glitch problems that lowered the general mod ffeel but except that, loved it, anyway, i preferrd hop on your video cause the other was boring asf
I actually really like the idea of communist (and anarchist*) rebels not being able to work together because they're having an ideological disagreement, it's actually a pretty historically accurate idea. The original half-life 2 really lacked any inter-rebel conflict except some workplace disagreements at White Forest. The divide between the rebels in swelter could use a lot more elaboration, but it's still an interesting plot to try to do.
@dauzlee2827 There are red banners referencing council communism in the outskirts so I just assumed the city rebels are supposed to be communists while the desert rebels are anarchists, the rebel civil war narrative seemed like an allegory for leftist infighting during conflicts like the russian revolution and the spanish civil war to me. Also, academic and roki respectively have a lenin patch and a red star with the lamba symbol on their outfits, and the first hideout you meet roki in has a lenin poster on the wall.
This mods is outstanding, those developers are making the mod very well adding a different city, characters and the story is decent-to-good but the puzzles are becoming tedious and sometimes annoying. Anyway this game makes the Half-Life community in a great spot.
this mod uses Half-Life episode 2 so the radar comes from that edit:I looked in the comment section someone else mentioned it. okay I feel like a dumbass. a good video and have a good day

i liked the vehicle and plane section but i feel like there were too many weapons and i guessed that make amends meant kill from the start
As always, custom assets in this mod make it so much better.
Jesus Rad your pretty quick to release a review for this mod, i have played through it myself like a day or two ago
Update: after watching this video i have to agree with all of the things you had to say about this mod, great video Rad!
I personally didn't get stuck or banged my head at a wall at any puzzle, but then again, I've played so many hl2 mods and maps that I developed an "automatic mode" when dealing with source puzzles lol.
Edit: Nevermind. That puzzle from 16:35 was bullshit haha.
5:42 "What makes him a good demoman?" Leave your reply's below
If he was a bad demoman he wouldn't be fricking talking to you!
But it's otherwise very well made
I feel stumped by this review because the puzzles and the driving section were the parts I really liked
Hearing Kuze's theme from Yakuza 0 in the middle of a HL2 mod video is a wild experience.
I am not alone then!
Finally they made central asia real.
Can't wait to play this one!
Glad you mentioned what a madman LMAO again 😅
I think Bomberman in 5:41 are reference to TF2 Demoman (one eye, wear beanie and grenade chest rig)
But he's wanted in 57 countries lol
if you look into your notepad you can see that hes literally called demoman
What a madman lmao
i like this mod i can't believe they have bullsquid
Your music is so good I love listening to it
9:48 This is a post-soviet country, so this confusion about all the factions and the conflicts between them must be intentional lmao
It's made by folks from a Post-Soviet country, so absolutely.
I LOVE CLOSED GATES
OMG SAME BESTIE
A bit brighter and more colorful, despite the oppressive nature of the Combine structure. I'm glad to see this kind of map style that brings some vibrancy and liveliness to the setting.
I really like the idea of alternative endings in Half-Life games or mods. We haven't really seen that stuff after the first Half-Life itself, which I understand, because making a potential sequel can be a lot harder then.
Loved this one!
Another Yakuza music appreciatior let's go
16:41 When I played I did not see that plug into the wall, so I repeatedly hit the switch, ran to gate, but didn't make it in time,
I eventually did.
I saw the plug in the wall but I had no idea how shooting the plug out of the socket was meant to help me. I had to look up a walkthrough eventually.
Just from few seconds of the video I gotta stop it and play it immediately
You might say it's bigger, longer and uncut
"Hey, there is a driving section in you locked gates"
10:05 that guy is part of your faction, you can tell because his badge is the same as yours from the beginning
The Radar and related assets are from Episode 2
i had no idea that you had to throw stuff at those electrical box things, i just noclipped instead. i feel so stupid now lmao, it's such an obvious solution
The mod has very authentic post-Soviet atmosphere as another thing for those who actually live there
its sweltin' time
what a madman lmao is back, A
7:45 i had the same problem in Snowdrop Escape
This mod REALLY reminded me of Snowdrop Escape in terms of like aesthetics and certain gameplay choices. Thought it was great overall with like some minor pacing problems, plus getting all the achievements was a swell-ter time
this just came out a few days ago. very prompt review!
I think the best things about this mod are mainly the environments and designs of NPC's and Weaponry.
My only issues are mainly the reused pain and death voicelines for the characters, the weapons being weak in many situations [Although the Sniper's very decent]
For example, there is so much inspiration taken from the beta during the wasteland sections.
Pretty sure your "sickness" is related to the head trauma you suffered in the intro
I love it when he said 'its swelting time', and sweltered all over the place.
Anyway awesome video man, there was another youruber takking about this mod i tried and with wich i had a couple of glitch problems that lowered the general mod ffeel but except that, loved it, anyway, i preferrd hop on your video cause the other was boring asf
Uncle Rad fills me with so much joy whenever he says "What a madman LMAO".
in 1:58 i had the same problem so your not alone. and in that 1:50 part i thought you had to be stealthy
John should've said it's "sweltin time" before every fight.
You should give take a look into the long and abandoned Underhell mod
8:46 Day #104 of playing Rainworld: Mention of the word "Outskirts" was enough to trigger a low-level episode.
Except that it wasn't communist. It was the anarchist
Anyway this game makes the Half-Life community in a great spot.
oh boy we eating good today
thank you father haz for feeding us youtube children
Beta be with you 🙏🙏🙏
this mod uses Half-Life episode 2 so the radar comes from that
edit:I looked in the comment section someone else mentioned it. okay I feel like a dumbass. a good video and have a good day
The shell is a goddamn spark plug lmao, Also John Roki is probably based apon Roki Vulvovic
i played this yesterday , and i hadn't have this much fun in years
