I made my husband find these original dubs for me so I could re-live my teenage-hood I just binge watched the first 2 seasons. My husband thinks I’m crazy 😂 bless him for putting up with me and my anime addiction
I know! I'm watching the Subbed episodes as a 'blast to the past' now that Sailor Moon Crystal is out, and I'm going to really miss it when I get into the later seasons and Rainy Day Man, She's Got the Power and The Power of Love are going to be missing. The final fight of Promise of the Rose and against the Negaverse /still/ gets me super excited. Loved that song and battle.
Thing is, no one is saying its not badass. The dub just suffers in comparison from the distillations bc a lot of the most interesting aspects of the original are lost bc it was marketed to younger children. This scene is cool, but the original has new and more interesting elements, like the fact that its not really Beryl she’s fighting, its Queen Metaria (the Negaforce) possessing her, the true sacrifice of the other Sailors, and the sacrifice of Sailor Moon, herself, to destroy Metaria for good. We all love the dub fight, it’s just the Japanese has more emotional complexity to it.
Serena’s VA making the choice to not use contractions when the character is in princess mode is such a great decision. She probably had that direction based on how the Japanese VA spoke and use dialects, but it’s still an inspired and small thing that helps to make her feel like a different person.
😢😢😢😢😢😢 The DiC dub of Sailor Moon was the greatest animated television show ever released. Even 25 years later, I'm devastated these voice actors and musicians didn't get to complete the entire saga.
They really took the original soundtrack and elevated it to a new level. Original JP series had random 1700's (and thus royalty free) classical music for several scenes in the anime, whereas DiC remixed the Japanese OP for that catchy "sailor moon theme" background music you hear in most episodes. It feels alien watching the original series without that BGM.
Sad Cloverway didn’t dub the Sailor Stars dub episodes (Until Viz did many years later). In fact the English dub series of Sailor Moon would’ve been completed in the early 2000s.

There's no question the original Japanese episode is better, but there are some good things in the English dub too in the final battle. "Carry On" adds a dramatic and epic feel to it. The biggest difference is the editing at the end. That's really my biggest problem with the US dub.
FutureSoapStar09 completely agree. One thing they did very well was the scoring...it adds nostalgia, and an epic feel. I especially love the sad moments where they play a sad piano version of the sailor moon theme song. Those are the moments that get me :)
This was the very first episode of this show I ever saw. Stumbled upon it about halfway through at like 5 30 in the morning. That was thirty years ago. Unbelievable. Love it
I remember watching this scene as a tween or early teen, and OMG I loved it so much. Carry On still brings tears to my eyes even now. While the DiC dub had many flaws, it was still deeply impactful on an entire generation. It drew me in to Sailor Moon, encouraging me to read the manga once the translations started coming into the U.S., and I have loved it ever since.

no
I remember watching this with my lil sister after school we watch it together and we'd never miss an episode
Good old days
Every year since I watched this I keep coming back to this scene and I still keep getting chills down my back. Love the music and the scene
I still remember crying to this scene on the couch when i was like 7 or something lmfao
Me too
The only dub I have ever watched.
Edit: I’m 41 now and still love it.
Edit 2: I still own the soundtrack.
Actually was a Canadian dub!
And “Power of Love” against Wiseman
As the biggest dic proponent, this is an entirely fair and accurate criticism.
I love the DiC version of Sailor Moon. I had this episode on vhs when i was little🥰
This scene is what precipitated me to get up at 6:30 am to watch Sailor Moon on USA... Cheesy as it is, it is still a favorite, 15 years later.
'I'm not letting you win this one, you witch! my friends are counting on me' ... 'I do need all of you, please help me' 😢💖 right in the feels!!!
the electric guitar solo is awesome
i cried everytime i see this my emotion cant contain it i love this part i love sailormoon one of my childhood will never ever forget..
Just watched the original version on Hulu. Gotta say, Dic did this right, even with less time. EPIC!
They completely rewrote the flashbacks to be about friendship instead of romantic love, and it works.
COSMIC MOON POWER!
Nah they worked the romantic love part in too.
This scene still makes me cry 20+ years later
I really felt that last "We have the strength to carry on". So nostalgic😢😊
DIC was an international film and television production company. They're the ones who dubbed Sailor Moon in English.
This episode's name is actually called "Day of Destiny"
“We have a chance for real peace”
Ann and Alan: “lmao bet”
This just made me cry 😢. I remember Watching this as a child. My my how life has let me down since then.
Be a child as long as you can. The world 🌎 is cruel and it's waiting for us all.
Tell me about it....
Before we had DVR or streaming, I would watch this show every afternoon with a blank tape and a VCR hoping I could catch this episode. I love the part where they each put a hand on hers and I still get goosebumps when she says “COSMIC MOON POWER, UNITE!”
Here I'm standing in the night
My cresent wand they only light
Alone against my darkest fear
But i sense me friends are near
I'll draw from each the power i need
The evil queen we will defeat
Give me the strength to carry on
with all our love we cant go wrong
only together we face the fight
and nothing can stand against our fight
I have all the episodes....this makes me want to watch it again for the 50 millionth time. LOVE SAILOR MOON.
this still gives me chills
"I'm not afraid anymore."
"YOU SHOULD BE!"
No, Beryl. YOU should be. After waiting 40 episodes for this moment, Princess Serena is finally going to have her revenge.
Watching this after Hurricane Beryl impacted my hometown.
Hands down the best Sailormoon battle in the entire series.
i was so close to crying when mina said 'let us help we haven't known eachother long enough for it to end yet' so sad but awesome at the same time
Aawww!! This use to be my favorite episode as kid!
Best scene from any anime ever!
I remember watching this for the first time as a kid and man I got chiiiills and a little teary eyed when Serena had those flashbacks of her friends.
Why i am crying watching this?🥺
You're not the only one 🥺
1:02 Is When I Started Tearing Up. The flash backs......Seeing the Guardians as ghosts as they're standing by Sailor Moon.......My god. I tried to keep it together but, I couldn't - Hell, typing this comment out got Me choked up........
Glad I kept my VHS copy for my niece to enjoy 😊😊
1:25 Hardcore and heartbreaking. Honestly empowering to see the original five could reach beyond the physical world and channel their friendship and energy into Serena’s crescent moon wand to take out Beryl together. This moment really stays with you ✨🌙
Goes to show the power of having the perfect music accompaniment. Brilliant!
Made it so much more epic lol
I love how Sailor Mars is like, let us help you or were not friends anymore bih!
