- Can the Google Pixel 9 Pro make a great underwater camera and will it be able to be my primary underwater camera?
Is it worth using to capture your scuba diving adventures?
My first shots and thoughts on using the Google Pixel 9 Pro in the Divevolk Seatouch 4 Max + housing. Also my first time in front of the camera. Shots taken while sidemount diving at Anderson Point. Using the Blackmagic App is a must as the Google Camera App is horrible.
Also if you plan on purchasing a Divevolk Housing for your mobile phone please use my affiliate link

It gives me a small commission and gives you a 5% discount on your order. I purchased mine myself and are not sponsored. They have just been kind enough to provide me with an affiliate link after I posted the video.

Bro you've got me so excited i just bought a google pixel 9 pro xl and im going to gran canaria in april i cant wait to record the sealife with it
Hi mate. Glad you liked it. I'll have some more videos on it soon. You can get some great shots with right setup and settings. I am doing one on settings as we speak. If you don't have a housing yet I recommend the Divevolk so you can use the touchscreen and use other apps. I asked them for an affiliate link because I liked them so if you don't have one there is a link in desc that will give you 5 percent off if interested. Using a mobile underwater does take some practice over using say an action camera so I will get some videos out and if you have questions just ask. Focus for instance takes practice as you need to manually focus otherwise camera will hunt. Also a bit to learn about the lenses as google like all mobiles likes to use AI and digital zooms on you without any indicators so I will go through how to try and make sure you are using a native lens. Otherwise what looks good on your phone can be disappointing when you find out it used a digital zoom when you thought you were using a native lens. Hope to see some shots from your trip
@seanpe80 thanks for the recommendation on the housing ill defo try it out im curious to see the quality under water
Quality of main lens is quite nice. The Ultra wide is distorted and needs a wide angle wet lens but that is very normal and Divevolk sells one. The telephoto is not that much use as it's focus distance above water is already 75cm. The problem with all phones and especially google is knowing what the phone is up to as they like to pretend they have a continuous focus and great macro. It's all a trick and can result in bad footage. So if you have your camera on 5x and object is over 75cm it will use the lens. Once closer it will then change to using the main lens and use a digital zoom down to about 11cm. Under that and when you see the yellow macro symbol it's using the Ultra wide lens and digital zoom and is not great. It's knowing what lens you are on so you know you are getting a native lens and knowing your limits that make it good.
@seanpe80 so would u recommend fixing the lens to the main camera during photos and recording?
Yes I would take most of your shots with the main 1x lens as it is the best quality. Switch macro off. The 2x lens is ok. The ultra wide I use if you want a really wide shot. I will only use the telephoto if Im using an app like Blackmagic so you know you are actually using that lens. The google cam app will pretty much never be using it underwater and will be digitally zooming one of the other 2 lenses.
Great video! Loved the shot of the weedy sea dragon 🐉
Thank you. I never get sick of Sea dragons
Great work Sean! Worked out really well. Nice quality sound as well.
Thanks mate. Thanks for the encouragement. Have a great Xmas.
Yessss so good! Love the blog videos :)
I'll get another one up soon
Nice video Sean! I would like to know more about using the GoPro for underwater along with the macro setup. Your underwater videos are some of the best out there!
Thanks mate. I really appreciate it. I will definitely make that video. I did it once and didn't like it but I'm feeling a bit more comfortable in front of camera. With Xmas and New Year it will be a few weeks but I will get it done for you asap. Have great Xmas and New Year. I have plenty of diving planned and videos in 2025.
Hi mate. I just put up a video that shows my setup and the macro lens. I will have more videos coming soon with more details.
Beautiful what is that amazing sea horse?
Thanks. Glad you liked it. It's called a Weedy Seadragon. They are endemic to southern half of Australia. They grow quite large for a sea horse at up to 45cm. The other type we have here is a Leafy Seadragon. If you would like to see that type then watch my Rapid Bay video as they are very cool as well.
Great thanks have a good christmas 🎄 @@seanpe80
