    Hey Hypetrain, first things first, I wanna say how awesome its been to watch the both you go from knowing nothing about the game of League of Legends, to building a genuine curiosity and about the game, and even enjoy the community that has supported this game since 2009. League of legends is celebrating its 10th year, and the game has changed so much since day one.
    Now, the new Worlds song should be premiering any day now for the 2019 world championship, and Im sure you are just as excited as all of us to see what they do this year both in animation and music. You mentioned that it would be fun to go to the finals in 2019 and I must say its something that you need to witness. If you are a sports fan of any kind, you need to feel the atmosphere at an event like this, its hard not to get excited even if you know very little about the game. I would love to see you guys maybe do a vlog of you two going, even if you just stay for the opening ceremony, but I know thats asking a lot. Regardless, thank you guys for being a great dynamic duo to watch these with, I and many others have loved not just your league reactions, but all the videos you put out. Cheers!

      That's very nice of you thanks 👍 I could see us doing a blog/vlog of some sort showcasing our experience of the finals. As a sports fan I could certainly appreciate the atmosphere, and I'm sure kev would love it as well! And going through this journey of better understanding lol with all of you guys and girls is a fantastic privilege. Long may it continue 🙏-dave

    I really love videos like this. Even though I am not in to LoL myself, I study esports as part of my job, and it never ceases to amaze me the excitement that esports generates. I also study traditional sports as part of my job, and while the excitement of being in a big stadium for a sporting event is massive (even if you aren't an avid follower of the particular sport), there is something different about esports. Something about knowing that you can engage with this sport in a social and interactive way that is like no other.

    Tomorrow we get the 2019 draw show so we know which teams are going against each other for the first stages of the world championship I know for sure I’m not gonna miss a single match for this year. Also the world championship is in EU this year so most likely cinemas in the uk will host viewing parties for the finals like they’ve done for the past few years or so.
    On a side note the 2018 prize pool was 6.4 million dollars split between 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 1st place winning over 2.4 million

    • @hawkjiang3361
      @hawkjiang3361 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The prize money isnt the real thing, its the title that is what you really want to desire, players like theshy and UZI makes way more money then the prize pool.

  • @SinNombreYQueWea
    @SinNombreYQueWea 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Another prize that is kinda... priceless? Lol, is that the team that wins the world championship gets a set of skins for the characters they choose, and the skins are based on the players themselves and wear the team colors and banners.
    For instance last year IG won worlds, and TheShy, one of the players, chose Fiora as his character, and so a few months later Fiora got the "IG Fiora" skin designed after TheShy, and the character has his signature too.
    That means that the world champions get forever immortalized inside the game with skins for their favorite characters.

      @@HypeTrain-Follow League of Legends is past the point that these cash rewards are the end goal.
      Understand that most of the people you saw there(remember, this IS the world championship, just getting there ain't easy) are paid 6 figure salaries, sponsorships, high stream numbers, etc.(the midlaner caps who was in this final would in 2019 move to G2, I don't need to explain to you what the second best midlaner at the time is going to be asking. He knows his value)
      BUT, more importantly, the people who didn't make it still earned a decent living. The average salary in the north American league is 305k/year.
      This has TRIPPLED since 2017.
      The better players will be earning north of 500k+ with the likes of Flash probably over 1 million. You can have tournament where only the top 32 earns anything and the number 1 earns it big, but that's not the goal here of league of legends, their goal is a sustainable league.

    It’s not just weeks that these players prepare, its well over a YEAR. So 1 season lasts for the whole year, and each season these teams play tournament after tournament to increase their trophy count and raise name recognition, and after a year of tournaments they hope to qualify for the worlds stage. Some of these players have been playing on the competitive stage for years and years, Faker (team SKT), widely regarded as the greatest player of all time, has three won three world championships, the only other person to have this many championship titles being one of his former teammates. A team called Echo Fox (owned and managed by Rick Fox, a former NBA champion) sold their slot at the LCS (not worlds but a still a really big and important tournament) sold their slot in the tournament for over $1 million. So just for a slot in the tournament was that much, imagine the prize pool.

    Prize pool wise, it's not that big, they get to split roughly several hundred thousand USD each.
    Which to top players in Asia, their annual salary could easily top. (Easily 6 figures, while some top players reportedly making close to, if not, passed the 7 figure)

    As a pro player i can tell u a little bit about the payment. In the north america league the minimum payout of a year is 75,000 dollars while the most of the players get around 320,000. In the league of legend europe championship the minimum payout is 60,000 yuro while most of the players get around 230,500 yuro. There are players around the world that actually get more then 2mil per year (uzi a chinese super star get around the 3-4 milion dollars per year while faker the best player in the world get paid even more altough i do not know the exact numbers).

    The top players earn from 100k to 1M a year but this only happens on the tops teams on the top regions which are Europe, Korea, China and North America and they get a huge bonus for getting on the final stages of this but it goes to the team not the players I think pricepool for the tournament was like +6 million dollars and it aumented by people purchasing a skin in game.

    The 2018 Worlds Series was probably the best ever, except for the anticlimactic ending. Invictus Gaming absolutely _annihilated_ Fnatic in the Grand Final, winning 3-0, and it wasn't even very impressive. While IG looked like the strongest team in the world, Fnatic didn't look even _remotely_ like the 2nd strongest- they must have cracked under the pressure because they basically rolled over and died, playing a completely ordinary match against a team who were simply better than them in every way, without pulling out any radical secret weapons or trying anything to counter IG's strategies. After all the hype and buildup, it was an immensely deflating end to what was otherwise a spectacular event.
