Yeah, I played it myself after the first video (It was on my list for a while anyway) and heroic is actually hard. I had to level up a bit to get anywhere.
Yeah, although talents make it easier on the other hand. Not by a long shot, but I kinda dislike them. But that’s definitely is not the hardest difficulty. Builder + 2nd Map + 2nd Flame + Heroic is really freaking hard.
Slightly harder, but still easy. There are ways to make it harder by yourself though. The dev says there's gonna be a harder difficulty on release. This is early access, still a lot of things to work on, but it'S looking good.
Just sitting here and watching the giant red exclamation mark on the talents button being completely ignored by Tyler. Poor talents button, you are a valuable UI element and lead to important game mechanics too.
A few things to make note of: 1. Remember you can pick up block before a wave starts by pressing and holding on them so you are not committed to your first choice. 2.the game definitely expects some meta progression for heroic mode which ik ur ignoring on purpose but something to think about. 3. You can place towers on flat map structures like the bricks.
as someone who has been addicted to this game for the past few days a have a small tip about that first map, there is a whole area below your fire so you can actually curve the path all the way around instead of giving them straight shot to your fire
No only that, but he could’ve placed his maze so that the side entrance would have to go out and meet up with the back force before heading towards his fire
tyler in the first stage: omg i need area damage i cant win if i dont have area damage also tyler: refuses to build hammer towers because he doesnt like them
I was thinking this the whole time. Hammer towers are incredibly strong. Especially if you build like 2 next to each other (which he could have) and then put dps by them to kill the stunned groups.
6:30 Your area damage tower was the hammer one. It was doing ok, but isn't great against the fast wolves, which get out of their area too fast. And I think placing your hammer in a way that it hits 3 path tiles would make it quite a bit more effective. Kinda hard to do sometimes though.
I'm not sure why Tyler doesn't explore the other crosspaths or think about his upgrades. Giving an ice tower +1 dmg when it does 3 already is worse than giving it 50% more attack speed. It's about 24dmg/sec(4*6/sec) vs 27dmg/sec (3*9/sec). Also if I'm not mistaken isn't it better to just build more and more ice towers over upgrading? Like on the first level he spends $40 to give an ice tower +1 dmg but he could just buy an ice tower that does 1dmg for $25. The only time it's worth upgrading is when you have boost tiles.
Pretty sure its not necessarily only 1 damage on top of 3, as the +1 gets rounded up +2 with buffs, so it become 30dps vs 27dps. Not to say it shouldn't be considered as higher firerate lends itself to better group killing, but not an obvious answer
I think it increases the base damage, meaning it actually increases the damage by more than 1 after the buffs are applied. when he puts the tower on the ice boost it gets +150% damage, rounded up to 200% to give the tower 3 damage. With the damage upgrade it becomes 2 + 150% which is 5 damage
This game needs some kind of tile that you can’t place anything on and buffs enemies that walk over it. This way you would need to adjust your maze in ways you normally wouldn’t
Yes! Make Emberward a full series! Your knowledge in tower defense games spanning all the way back to Bloons, this game seems perfect for you! And I've been loving watching Emberward content lately. I might have to pick this game up!
The hammer is an absolute monster if you can stun or slow something going through its area Also, try to place it where the path takes corners so they have three spaces in hammer range
OH and also big tip for using the altar rooms! When you have two of the same block, remove the one that doesn't have a buff on it as you will draw that buff tile more often.

Hmm, I don't know what a "usual" gamer is, but I think Tyler is pretty good compared to a lot of other similar channels I watch. I think the only thing I can generally fault him for is like lack of observation sometimes. But other channels I'm constantly saying "that's not how that works!" into the monitor. It's hard to make a general statement though because I play a lot of new games so I'm pretty versed at picking up things quickly too, so my viewpoint is probably skewed.

the big dice tower is my favorite in the game, especially when you can get like 2-4 greater speed buffs together for it and then if ya get lucky get like 30-40 attack speed. get a treasure chest and then the fireball on every attack and it is just hilarious how strong it becomes for those 15 seconds
51:55 The boss didn't die because it wasn't being targeted by anything, all of your towers were targeting the highest hp target and the grunt enemies had more hp than the boss lol.
It took me a bit to notice that it was your fabulous editing that you were making those “twinkle stars” to draw the watchers attention to what you are talking about and explaining at any given moment. That’s some good dopamine! =]
Oh just wait until you use sacred flame on heroic mode. That is another beast entirely. And as a tip hammers aren't entirely useless. Making a cluster of 3-4 of em on a bend can work wonders, and overcharging makes them even more busted because of the stun.
By the way you can set defaul priorities for each tower which gets saved between runs, saves you the trouble of targeting certain towers like the plant to go to highest health
It'd be cool to see the pathfinding have more mechanics too, similar to veggie quest. Nothing crazy, but maybe buttons and one way paths that can rotate to make for more doubling back
hey tyler, upgrading the tower seems more costly in terms of damage than buying a new one. Its good for towers on special tiles, but seems to be worse for normal towers
Tyler have you played dungeon warfare? Its a fun tower defense with more than just damage towers. There's physics traps/towers that can push enemies into pits or water or crush them against walls and whatnot. One of the best tower defense games I've played in a while. This one looks great too, just figured you'd want to hear about it. It felt like a bit of a puzzle some levels, on top of that, I used the skill tree that focused on using ONE of each TYPE of tower for a huge boost. Which ended out feeling very good having the perfect spot for each trap/tower to beat each level. There's 2 Dungeon Warfares out and a 3rd in the making.
Sacred Heroic is much easier imo. Corrupted Tiles are not that challenging and you get so many relics and emberstones. By the boss in Bone Desert I had 10+ relics and killed it before he even reached the final carriage.@@wingdingfontbro
I believe the range and fire rate upgrade does more extra damage than the damage boost on icicle towers on frost squares. 3 base damage + 50% extra fire rate = 4.5 damage per time unit, while 3 base + 1 damage is just 4 damage per time unit
Tip when using the damage boost and ice rune in the frost tower the range and attack speed are better since the dmage upgrade increaes damage by 50% when on a damage boost and on the ice rune it does 33% increase whilst the other upgrade is cheaper goves range and 50% attack spped which is better at higher base starting damage
I don't know if Tyler here beat the game without talents on heroic or not, I'm thinking he did though and it's genuinely quite an impressive feat. I managed to pull it off a couple times myself with the full release of the game, it's definitely extremely hard but equally very fun, as it makes it truly reward to eventually win with it being a true roguelike. I will say though that beating the game in the free demo before it's release was infinitely harder and required insane rng (2x2 dice tower and 1x1 dice tower rng). So much rng it wasn't very fun I'll admit, but I did eventually win after putting in like 100+ tries on it xD Glad the game got improved with the chest drops + tower upgrades + other great towers that can do work beyond just the 2x2 dice / sniper tower.
I'd definitely be down to see another episode in the desert region. I do wish you at least tried the electric towers. They sounded interesting and I would have liked to see how they performed, even if you ultimately ended up selling them. Maybe in the next episode?
Not sure if there's a comment already, you can also select and change your fire during character selection which enhances gameplay and creates different strategies.
