- Meet Organic Farmer Thomas O'Connor. Manna Farm is a mixed farm on 25 acres on the Dingle Peninsula. Trees and the principles of Agroforestry have played a big role in the establishment of the farm over the past 15 years. What started out as fields of Ryegrass is now a well established ecosystem where vegetables are grown on 4 acres surrounded by trees that act as shelter as well as providing biomass to improve soil fertility and health.
Additionally they have created a 4 acre permaculture field which is divided in sections using shelterbelts of Whitethorn and in between planting of fruit producing trees and shrubs.
Another section of the farm consists of a 4-acre terraced Agroforestry plot which is planted with soft fruit bushes surrounded by coppiced Willow, Birch and Sycamore. This video was produced by the Irish Agroforestry Forum and was supported by Funding from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
Brilliant stuff. Inspiring to see farmers in Ireland with this organic farming mindset. These are the food hero's of our country. Great knowledge and wisdom 👏
Wonderful stuff!
Brilliant organic farm and so much good information. Thank you.
Amazing farm. Inspiring
Awesome video
Well done lad..the future is here
Excellent video. He's a good speaker, makes it seem all so sensible and doable. Having just acquired some land with wildlife and biodiversity in mind, this is a nice reminder that I could try and produce some food while I'm at it. Not enough orchards these days.
OK, got it "Mycelium Running" by Paul Stamets
I've read it as well, fabulous book.
Good luck 🍀
Would be lovely if you could talk to farmers in my area of Laois. It's so hard to watch all the spraying all around me , and to try to explain why I'm growing organically.
What is the book on fungi and bees 🙏🏻 Paul Stanets ?
