- To celebrate our 70th birthday, Mountview's president Dame Judi Dench spoke to students and guests about her prolific career, interviewed by good friend and acclaimed director Richard Eyre. The event was hosted by The Hospital Club www.thehospital...
Whenever I struggled with the meaning of a Shakespeare text, I tried to find a recording of a great British actor speaking it, and then it made sense. Dame Judi captures every word and meaning and rhythm perfectly.
Some actors wring their hands, pull their hair, fall to their knees and stare at the sky to convey the feelings in this soliloquy.
Dame Judi Dench sits almost still and it happens. It's there.
Masterclass.
Judy Garland did the same thing with songs. People called Judy/Judi seem to be imbued with some kind of magic
I wish Dame Judi Dench would make an album just reciting Shakespeare. Maybe a little mood music in the background. It would be a sensation. Hopefully, someone can approach her to make this a gift for the ages.
Nothing in all of Shakespeare more difficult to recite than his sonnets, and Dame Judi makes the magic effortless!
Judi Dench is a National Treasure.
absolutely stunning.........the sheer elegance of the language is overwhelming. Dame Judi, you are a treasure beyond price.!
Yes!!
Such a beautiful lady and I love these recitations. Thank you, Dame Judi.
Such eloquence, beautiful..
Oh my heart! That was so confident, I can't help but believe Shakespeare.
BRAVO!! Brought me to tears...true gold never loses tarnishes😊
I am undone by her sheer brilliance ❤
So powerful when spoken by an actor of genius. I'm sure Shakespeare would have applauded the most had he been present.
It was because of that recital that I included some of it in my play. Sequel to Twelfth Night...Malvolio Or Whatever. Kindle.
Woven magic when Judi Dench can capture an audience of all ages with Shakespeare
WAW... She is just a pure delight...
I like her so much! She is perfect!
Has anyone ever thought of recording her as she recites the sonnets? I think she does them better than anyone.
A master at work!
This is wonderful to watch❤️❤️
Yeah,It's
Hello, How are you doing today Marie?
Sparkling delight!
Simply *marvelous*
Is the full interview available anywhere? I've not been able to find it.
The funny thing is one of the places I find heavy Shakespeare fans is at sci fi / conventions.
So often, fans will demand monologs. Too much fun!
Beautiful!
Oh, love her ❤
wow
Is the full interview available?
A lot of kids are taught this at school. Pity so few of them learn what they are taught.
❤

How I wish, during my schooldays, I had had someone of the calibre of Dame Judi to reveal the wonders of the Bard. My 'O' Level (that dates me!) English Literature course consisted entirely of the Head of English (lovely old bloke but well past his teaching days) dictating endless notes, from a book, on Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream.' He never talked to us about it - the plot, characters, text, metre - we never actually read the play or even watched a video of it. Just dictation, dictation, dictation. I got an 'A' in my English Language 'O'' Level and failed English Lit. If ever proof was needed. What a bloody waste.
In general, I’m not a fan of Shakespeare…but when it comes from out her mouth…I am moved.
Sonnet 116: Let me not to the marriage of true minds
BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand'ring bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me prov'd,
I never writ, nor no man ever lov'd.
Paul Hearn Thank you very much, we non native English speakers, sometimes find it difficult to understand Shakespeare. Dame Judy Dench is one of my favorite actresses.
thank you
I did screen shot, those words am guess go live at mine notebook
