If you don't mind seeds and would like more fruit reliably you could probably graft a Chocolate Asian persimmon to one of the rootstock suckers. It'll produce a small amount of male or perfect flowers. It's basically a Fuyu if it doesn't get pollinated and flesh turns brown if it does.

Thank you for this update on your experience with this particular persimmon tree. It may be a perfect fit for my garden 😊 As always, your incredible content is very vastly appreciated

I planted a Nikita's Gift tree in March of 2020. The first three years, it just grew. In 2023, the tree produced 3, small fruit, but then the fruit dropped to the ground. In 2024, the tree just grew (no fruit). In December 2024, all the branches have what appear to be flower buds, which leads to flowers, which hopefully lead to fruit. I'm crossing my fingers that I get fruit in 2025. That's been my story with a Nikita's Gift tree. I live in south central Kentucky, zone 7A. I have the tree in the corner of my vegetable garden. I never till my garden, and keep a good 6 inches of leaves on the ground for most of the year. One question I do have for you: you said you live in Portland, OR zone 9A. How does your tree get enough freezing temperatures, if you live in zone 9-A? I was surprised when you said you live in zone 9-A. I heard these trees require 120 hours of below 32 degree temperatures, during the winter time.

Get a bird bath. A lot of times birds will peck into fruit for the moisture. A bird bath will give them access to water. Put more than one around your garden.

    That’s what I needed to see a
Dwarf persimmon tree. I don’t mind if it gets wide. Thanks for sharing.

Nikita's Gift has a perfect balance of taste, something between D.virginiana and D.kaki (oriental) persimmons. My favorite👍

Do you happen to know on what root stock the nikitas gift is crafted? The diospyros lotus creates a lot of suckering and air roots in my experience, this is the main reason i have all of my varities crafted on diospyros virginiana.

Thanks for sharing. I actually do have space for an American persimmon, but I need a second for pollination. Do you happen to know if Nikita's gift can act as a pollinator for the American persimmon?

I’m new to this type of persimmon. Few years in the row the tree drops most of the fruit. Anything i should know about this problem?

Can you explain the fruit drop to me? Mine has done this for a few years ( my tree is young though)

Common for self-pollinating trees. That's what I've read.
