He tried to convince me to watch them chronologically but I insisted on watching them in release order. I'm glad I did, as it meant I got to experience the Prequels filling in those gaps the Original trilogy left open. As well, I got to see the evolution in production, direction, and cinematography.

Chronological has its benefits, showing character development, darth sidious manipulating and organising the republic into the oppressive empire. Then you watch the OT and it makes sense where everyone came from (tho luke and leia is gross). It provides more of a foundation. Release order is also very good, it shows the evolution of the story and the true narrative behind star wars.

I don't know why people hate Jar Jar Binks so much. I pretty much like him. Maybe it's because I was a child when I first watched Phantom Menace (although I couldn't remember anything except Qui Gon dying) or because he was really cool in Clone Wars. Fight me if you want. Also if I would summarize Phantom Menace in one sentence it would be "Darth Maul is cool and awesome". The Duel of Fates is probably my favourite fight in all Star Wars.
There could have been more spin-offs if the Solo movie wasn't a flop. Also the sequels ruined the possibility of having episodes 10, 11 and 12. But I tell you, I miss when they were only six, if we don't count the two Ewoks movies and the animated Clone Wars movie from 2008.

@@1kaz1 Well, a lot of the storytelling and production choices the sequel films went with don't make much sense without the context of seeing the prequel trilogy first, though there are certainly *worse* orders to watch the films in. But both the prequel and sequel trilogies are rollercoaster rides in terms of quality, so it's really a matter of picking your poison between a trilogy that starts out as nearly unwatchable garbage before slowly rising to becoming kinda ok by the end (the prequel trilogy), or a trilogy that starts out a bit average and derivative, then temporarily gets really good in the middle, before setting itself on fire in the last film (the sequel trilogy).

the older i get the more I see how much of a crime it is to show a first time viewer the films in chronological order... Completely takes all of the weight and tension out of New Hope and Empire Strikes Back, because you already know tons of backstory, who all the characters are, who the emperor is, who Vader is, etc. Any significance of Solo and Rogue One are completely lost, because without the context of seeing the OT first they pretty much mean nothing to you. Best order will forever be: A New Hope Empire Strikes Back Phantom Menace Attack of the Clones Revenge of the Sith Return of the Jedi This order maintains mystery and curiosity through EP 4, the twists in EP 5, getting to discover Obi Wan and Anakin's backstory, makes the Emperor's rise more interesting, makes episode 3's ending more tragic, makes the reveal of twins WAY more impactful finding out in episode 3, then jumping straight to 6 where Luke finds out for himself the connection works much better. I love Rogue One, but it is better watched on its own, as it only distracts and confuses from the focus of the Skywalker story - prob best to watch after ep 6. Solo shouldn't exist and is irrelevant imo, but same as rogue one, better watched separately from the central story to avoid confusion and distraction.
honestly for a new viewer I would always recommend that they watch it in release order, not chronological order. There are a lot of plot points that I think are more enjoyable that way round for the first time
7:06 keep in mind, leia and Luke did not start out as siblings and luke originally had a different sister but that was changed as many things were I.E. Darth Vader being Luke's father, til they decided it would make a good twist but it frankly makes no sense.

The Solo movie is so underrated. It was just so much fun, without having too much weight on it.

Watching the movies in any other order than release order is a tragic mistake.
I went original -> sequel -> prequel trilogy, because I knew the sequels were considered bad so I didn't want to sit through bad movies while hopeless for the future, in case I hated them. Thoughts?
@@1kaz1 Well, a lot of the storytelling and production choices the sequel films went with don't make much sense without the context of seeing the prequel trilogy first, though there are certainly *worse* orders to watch the films in. But both the prequel and sequel trilogies are rollercoaster rides in terms of quality, so it's really a matter of picking your poison between a trilogy that starts out as nearly unwatchable garbage before slowly rising to becoming kinda ok by the end (the prequel trilogy), or a trilogy that starts out a bit average and derivative, then temporarily gets really good in the middle, before setting itself on fire in the last film (the sequel trilogy).
@@EnvyOmicronThe sequels were not good at any point. Like you said, it starts off fine but then it nosedives because of how much they screwed up all the characters from the original trilogy. And I don’t get how anyone can genuinely think that the sequels have higher points than the prequels.

the older i get the more I see how much of a crime it is to show a first time viewer the films in chronological order... Completely takes all of the weight and tension out of New Hope and Empire Strikes Back, because you already know tons of backstory, who all the characters are, who the emperor is, who Vader is, etc. Any significance of Solo and Rogue One are completely lost, because without the context of seeing the OT first they pretty much mean nothing to you.
Best order will forever be:
A New Hope
Empire Strikes Back
Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
Revenge of the Sith
Return of the Jedi
This order maintains mystery and curiosity through EP 4, the twists in EP 5, getting to discover Obi Wan and Anakin's backstory, makes the Emperor's rise more interesting, makes episode 3's ending more tragic, makes the reveal of twins WAY more impactful finding out in episode 3, then jumping straight to 6 where Luke finds out for himself the connection works much better. I love Rogue One, but it is better watched on its own, as it only distracts and confuses from the focus of the Skywalker story - prob best to watch after ep 6. Solo shouldn't exist and is irrelevant imo, but same as rogue one, better watched separately from the central story to avoid confusion and distraction.
When I'm tired, I just laugh at everything whether it's funny or not.

honestly for a new viewer I would always recommend that they watch it in release order, not chronological order. There are a lot of plot points that I think are more enjoyable that way round for the first time

7:06 keep in mind, leia and Luke did not start out as siblings and luke originally had a different sister but that was changed as many things were I.E. Darth Vader being Luke's father, til they decided it would make a good twist but it frankly makes no sense.

I knew the second I saw the thumbnail that, no matter how good the movie is, no man can stay awake watching movies non-stop for 16 hours.
