    Cassano allo Ionio, Calabria, Italy
    Died February 18, 1973 (aged 82)
New York City, U.S. Costello retired in 1957 after he had survived an assassination attempt ordered by Vito Genovese.
In early February 1973, Costello suffered a heart attack at his Manhattan home and was rushed to Doctors Hospital in Manhattan, where he died on February 18. Costello's sedate memorial service at a Manhattan funeral home was attended by 50 relatives, friends, and law enforcement agents. Costello is interred in a private mausoleum in St. Michael's Cemetery in East Elmhurst, Queens.Take care and God bless

Is this Caption just "cheap click bait?" Genovese did not succeed in killing Costello. Costello survived the hit attempt by Gigante ordered by Genovese and lived until 1974 after suffering a heart attack at 82 years old. Genovese died in prison [for drug trafficking] in 1969 at 71.

Up until 56' _"Broadway Joe" Adonis_ who sat as Chairman of the National commission, was the _Luciano_ family Street Boss.
      > Thus why all the Big Hits ( puppeted by _Carlo Gambino_ ) *didn't occur until 1957.* On the Last two remaining _Luciano_ loyalists; _Anastasia_ & _Costello_ (an Ivory tower guy); because _Joe Adonis_ was deported in late 1956! Due to terms of his plea agreement (Go Look it up).
That's why in 1957 A power vaccum opened, and _Gambino_ filled the void. Using _Vito Genovese; "Lucky's_ old driver & bodyguard. Who had the respect of the social club "knock around guys". Who was essentially A chump, that RFK (then Attorney General) also used- via the _Valachi_ psy-op. To pull the Mafia out of the Shadows. PUTTING NAMES ON-TOP OF LCN FAMILY MARQUEES (forward they became The Genovese family).
All of which, is also why _Genovese_ himslef, was later set-up & framed w/ heroin stamped 'Palermo'. The same City that both _Luciano_ & _Adonis_ were deported too. Its literally "coincidence" after coincidence etc.

I was responding to commenter FiboFractal's question: "Do you know you can still change the title of your video?"
The person who uploaded this video made a huge error in the title of this video. Yet, after all this time (3 weeks?), still hasn't fixed it. Therefore, he/she is pretty dumb. Or they know it's wrong but don't care because they think the error will get more people to click on the video.
The title says: "How Vito Genovese Killed Frank Costello And Became America's Most Dangerous Gangster"
Truth is NO ONE killed Frank Costello! He died of natural causes. In May 1957 there was an ATTEMPT made to kill him, but the shooter only grazed the side of his head, ironically and bizarrely similar to what happen to Trump today! Costello had turned his head just at the moment the shot was fired and, fortunately for him, the bullet only grazed his head and he survived the attempt. Crazy how similar that incident from 1957 is to what happened today to Trump! Trump had turned his head to look at a map that was up on the large screen. Then again, who knows, maybe if he or Costello had NOT turned their heads, the bullet would have missed them entirely.

      > And when did the big hits on _Costello_ & _Anastasia_ happen,,, in 1957. Also when RFK (who hated the Mob) was AG, and needed someone to make an example of, via the _Joe Valachi_ psyhop.

Why in the world is the family named after Genovese to this day? I mean, if there's one family name you don't change of the 5, it's the Luciano name. While Luciano's role in the founding of the modern mob is highly overblown, he was still more influential than freaking Genovese... Even Castello was a more influential leader in that family's history than what Genovese ever did. It makes no sense. In my mind, it's the Luciano family or, at worst, the Costello family, but not the Genovese family at all.

The best thing I can say about Vito G. Is he understood a man’s love for their mother.
During the time Vincent the Chin Galante was thugging around with his brothers their beloved mother was in need of a life saving surgery and they didn’t have the money.
Vito admired the potential in all of the brothers especially the Chin so he paid for the surgery and all of the brothers became 100% loyal to Vito.
When Vito asked the Chin to kill Frank Costello he was all too happy to accommodate and place himself and his brothers to be made in the Genovese crime family.
Luckily the bullet grazed Franks temple and he didn’t croak.
The Chin was arrested and he stayed loyal to Omertà as did Costello .
    How about that history.

Genovese was not a patriot of the USA while in Italy during WW2. He "switched sides" from Musillini to the Allies when it became "convenient." Genovese was a gun happy idiot who was only concerned with his own promotion and wealth.
Tony Accardo the top boss of the Chicago Outfit, for decades did not attend the 1957 Apalachin disaster. His underling Giancana went there. Accardo was too smart and had ordered a "no drug selling" policy on the Outfit in Chicago and he held Genovese in contempt, and he didn't answer to NYC.

He did issue a "hit" on him, and Costello WAS shot along the side of his head, but it was a basic miss by the shooter, and Costello recovered from the hit (miss). Costello, did , however, decidt to move to Florida and retire from the Mafia, so it a way Genovese did achieve his goal of taking over Costello's mafia boss position.

    Need a documentary re:
Vito's wife, Anna: she was a fascinating character in her own right - unlike any other 20th century mob wife.

I'm not sure why the title says that he killed Frank Castello to become Boss. The Chin shot Costello and wounded him, shortly after Frank retired. There's a great book about Costello called Top Hoodlum, peace ✌️

Costello had more class in his pinky finger than Genovese had in his entire life time, he in my opinion was prob the greediest one of them all and didn’t deserve to have a family carry his name and legacy

It's kind of a shame the family became known as the Genovese family and not the Luciano family. Genovese was a power hungry dog who wasn't below betraying anyone and everyone to get his way, and he merely took advantage of Luciano's exile to force his way in as boss. The family should've kept Luciano's name considering it was the premier family from the nation's most influential boss.

Carmine Galante was the worlds most feared badass gangster . It is well documented he would beat your ass with his boxing skills or just kill you . Or have his crew kill you , blow up your mausoleum, torch your pizza joints . Carmine was killin cops since he was 16 .

Lots of bs. Anastasias murder had nothing to do with Genovese and Gambino. Anastasia had threatened 3 high level capos, one of them, Joseph Biondo, then gave the order for the murder to his crew.

Except he didn't kill Costello. Vincent Gigante tried to shoot Costello but missed. Frank got the hint, and retired. Either do better research on the topics you are going to talk about, or do better title-ing your videos.

I think the facts are screwed up here. Vito had the Chin attempt to. Kill Costello, but the Chin failed. From what I understand, Frank Costello did not accuse Chin so he walked, and Frank retired and walked away.

Despite the wrong info in the title ("Vito Genovese Killed Frank Costello"), the video itself is top notch. It's from the excellent series "Mafias Greatest Hits" and has nothing to do with the person who uploaded it here. It's also a high quality (high resolution) upload (up to 1.2 GB!)
